Whilst working a shift at 'There be Aliens', Exu is arranging some costumes on a clothing rack. He has his back turned to a line of alien-branded 'regular' clothes, which Mia is admiring.

Mia: I like this t-shirt.

Exu: You can't wear a t-shirt.

Mia: Well, you didn't have to remind me. Anyway, just because I can't wear a t-shirt, doesn't mean I can't admire them.

Exu: Why would you want to admire a t-shirt that you can't wear?

Mia: Because they're nice to look at? Because sometimes, an item of clothing peaks my curiosity?

Exu: Can't say I understand.

Mia: I wouldn't expect you to. You don't even wear clothes!

Exu: Shrugs. True.

Mia: Hey, Exu?

Exu: What?

Mia: Could you move these clothes for me? I want to have a better look.

Exu: Well, I have a job to do…

Mia: Yeah, well, I have nothing to do except stare out of your back all day and make the odd remark.

Exu: You give customers recommendations…

Mia: Not at the minute. You're just sorting through costumes.

Exu: Which needs doing…

Mia: Look, in the time we've been arguing, you could have just moved these clothes across so I can have a look at that t-shirt I want to see!

Exu: Sighs. Fine… Moves the clothes out of the way of the t-shirt, and returns to sorting through clothes. Happy now?

Mia: As I thought!

Exu: What?

Mia: It's you!

Exu: Me? Turns around.

Mia: Well, one of your kind anyway.

Exu: Yeah, that's not me. But an Abzorbaloff, for sure. Huh. I didn't realise we stocked this. What does that caption say? "Shut up, or I'll absorb you!"

Mia: Hah! That's so something you would say.

Exu: Why did you wait for me to read it?

Mia: Because I can't see it now that you've turned around. I'm stuck looking at this… fantastic dress. Is this even fancy dress?

Exu: Oh, this? Turns around and picks out a sparkling scarlet dress.

Mia: I don't know, I can't see it anymore. Hah, that t-shirt's funny.

Exu moves the dress behind his back so that Mia can see it.

Mia: Yes, that one.

Exu: This is a ceremonial Sycorax dress. Sometimes worn by Sycorax women on formal occasions.

Mia: Oh, I love it. It reminds me of a lovely dress I used to own.

Exu: One that you can no longer wear?

Mia: Well, I don't know if it really exists. What happened to it?

Exu: How should I know?

Mia: Well, I distinctly remember wearing that dress whilst on a night out with my girls once.

Exu: What's that got to do with me?

Mia: Because later that night, you absorbed me. And also the dress… I think.

Exu: Ah. I see.

Mia: Seriously, though - where is the dress now? Is it swimming around inside you still?

Exu: You think I have a bunch of people's clothes floating around inside me?

Mia: I don't know. You're an alien. Everything I know about nature pretty much falls apart.

Exu: Clicks the dress back onto the rail. It doesn't suddenly become a good idea to have things floating around inside you perpetually just because you're from a different planet, you know.

Mia: How was I to know?

Exu: Suppose I absorbed fifty people. A hundred. And all their dresses, trousers, tops, shoes, bags, are floating around inside me? Do you know how ridiculous that sounds?

Mia: Well, most species on Earth don't keep the faces of their prey in their skin either.

Exu: True. But no, I absorbed the dress as well as you.

Mia: How?

Exu: Same reason why I can't be poisoned. My digestive system is too strong. Were you wearing jewellery when you were absorbed?

Mia: I had this lovely bracelet on.

Exu: Did you find it odd that the bracelet disappeared with your hand when you started absorbing?

Mia: I wasn't really thinking about it. I was too busy fearing for my life.

Exu: That's fair.

Mia: I had a phone as well. Did you absorb that too?

Exu: I guess I did.

Mia: I imagine I got a few calls after you absorbed me.

Exu: Well, you won't have received them.

Mia: I wonder if my phone bill kept charging me?

Exu: I don't know.

Mia: Sighs.

Exu: Do you ever think about your old life?

Mia: Of course! All the time.

Exu: You must miss it.

Mia: Well, I have fewer deadlines now. But on the whole, yes. I miss it.

Exu: Would you meet everybody in your old life if you could?

Mia: Pauses. I… I couldn't. They'd all see me like this. It would be horrifying for them. I'm not sure if they would cope. Plus they might try to kill you, and me with you. Or they might touch you by accident and risk being absorbed. No. It's best that I stay away from them.

Exu: Fair enough.

Mia: Wait… do you think it's possible that I'm being daft? Am I worrying about too much?

Exu: I don't know what advice to give you Mia.

Mia: Why?

Exu: Because I don't know what it is like to be missed.
