The next morning Gadget exited her tent and went to check on Dale in his tent. She opened it to see Dale gone. She turned to see Dale standing out by the sea, watching as the tide came in. He was surprisingly wearing Chip's hat.
"Dale?" Gadget said.
"Yeah?" Dale answered, giving her a quick glance then resuming his focus on the water.
"Why are you wearing Chip's hat, and why are you staring out at the water?" Gadget asked.
"Chip got some of his best ideas by staring out at the horizon. I figured his hat would add some effect to that." He said.
Dale continued staring out at the rising sun over the water.
"Is it working?" Gadget asked.
Dale sighed and removed the hat. "No. I'm just no good at being the leader I suppose." He said.
Gadget patted Dale on the back. "It's okay, Dale. Not everyone is cut out to be the leader, but Chip needs our help and we need you to help us find him." She explained.
Dale nodded. "Okay, but where could he have gone? We searched the whole beach yesterday." He said.
"Hm, maybe he's inland and not on the beach." Gadget said.
The scene transitions over to Fat Cat's hideout, 1.5 miles west from the Rescue Ranger's camp.
"Alright boys, today's the day. I want to make sure we all know the plan, so let's go over it again." Fat Cat said.
His henchmen, including Chip (Charlie), nodded.
"Charlie, you will take the lead on getting into the ship once Mepps and Wart have cut a hole in the ship's hull. Mole, Snout, you two are in charge of keeping an eye out for guards." Fat Cat explained.
Fat Cat then walked up to Chip and glared down at him. "And if you see those Rescue Rangers, eliminate them and show no mercy." He instructed.
Chip saluted. "Yes, sir." He said.
"Good. Now get down to the beach and prepare the boat for launch." Fat Cat instructed.
The team of henchmen prepared for their assault while a little further down the beach, Dale and the others were starting their day's search for Chip.
"Zipper, go fly up ahead and see if you can see my buddy," Dale instructed.
Zipper flew ahead and looked down below from an aerial point of view to see if he could see Chip. However, as the clouds rolled inward, a storm began to form. Zipper retreated to Monterey's shoulder as the Rangers soldiered on through the rain.
"Come on guys, we can't give up now," Dale said.
Back on the other side of the island, Fat Cat's gang prepared their assault on Lady Clutchcoin's boat.
"Keep it steady, men. We don't have much time." Chip instructed as he stood at the bow of the boat.
The boat appeared in the distance. Fat Cat's gang got close to it and used a plunger to suction cup themselves to it.
"Mepps, Wart, cut a hole in the boat and acquire all the loot this boat will hold. I'm going for the diamond." Chip said, climbing through the hole.
Chip carefully walked through the boat and came across the small hole below a bedroom door. There stood the large diamond on the table unguarded. Chip climbed up the desk and grabbed it. Although as he took it and began to run for the door something didn't sit well with him on the inside. He somehow felt disappointed in his actions. He shrugged it off and returned to the boat.
"Did you get the diamond, Charlie?" Mole asked.
"Of course, you moron." Chip replied, holding the diamond in his paw.
"Oh…" Mole muttered.
Back on the beach, Dale discovered Fat Cat and the boat coming into shore.
"Oh my gosh, it's Fat Cat, and he's got Chip," Dale said.
"Golly, he does." Gadget said.
"Well, I'll just have to set him straight then, pallies." Monterey Jack added.
The boat beached onshore.
"Did you get the diamond?" Fat Cat asked.
"Got it, boss." Chip said, passing it off to him.
"Good. Now let's pack our things and prepare to get off this wretched island." Fat Cat said.
"Not so fast, Fat Cat," Dale said.
"The Rescue Rangers? Eliminate them!" Fat Cat shouted.
Chip smirked devilishly. "With pleasure." He said.
The others began holding off the others while Chip went for Dale.
"Chip, thank goodness you're alright," Dale said, smiling.
Chip grabbed Dale by the throat and slammed him to the ground. He got on top of Dale and began wrestling with him. Dale fought back.
"Chip, what are you doing? It's me, it's Dale." He said.
"I know who you are, and I know what has to be done." Chip said.
Chip pinned Dale down and sat on his torso, kneeling in his arms. He pulled a make-shift dagger from his pocket and put it to Dale's throat.
"Wa-wait!" Dale stammered.
"Goodbye Rescue Rangers." Chip said, chuckling.
Dale closed his eyes and prepared for the inevitable. He took a deep breath and the time around him began to slow. Dale opened his eyes slowly as he saw the dagger coming down at him in slow motion. However, just before the tip pierced his skin, Chip was tackled. Dale, although, wasn't as lucky. The dagger missed his throat and sliced his forearm wide open. Blood began to squirt out. Dale screamed and sobbed in agony. Gadget rushed to his aid and used the blood-stained dagger to cut a sleeve of her jumpsuit to dress Dale's wound.
Dale continued to sob. "It hurts." He cried.
"I know it does, Dale, just keep holding pressure. We have to stop the bleeding" Gadget said.
"That'll teach you for foiling our plans!" Chip shouted while being restrained.
"Come on, let's get you back to camp so I can get a better look at that wound." Gadget said.
Dale continued to whimper from the immense pain he felt. "What's wrong with Chip? Why did he hurt me?" He asked as he was led away by Gadget.
Chip fell silent as that familiar name rang in his mind. "Chip, that name sounds so familiar. That must be my name, but I thought it was Charlie?" He said, sighing.
Chip was then turned around and struck aside the head by a fist from a shadowy figure. All was then darkness.
