Summary: Tony Stark is having trouble keeping Loki contained in Avengers Tower. Thor keeps trying to turn Bruce into the Hulk. Natasha, Steve, and Clint argue over chocolate cake.
INT. AVENGERS TOWER - NIGHT
The six Avengers (Tony, Steve, Natasha, Clint, Bruce, and Thor) [are a]sleep in their separate bedrooms.
INT. HIGH SECURITY CELL - CONTINUOUS
Loki paces his cell with a maniacal smirk. He stands still and closes his eyes, still smirking.
Suddenly, the lights flicker and shut off.
EXT. NEW YORK
The Avengers Tower goes dark. The rest of the city remains lit up.
INT. TONY'S BEDROOM - CONTINUOUS
Jarvis's voice comes from Tony's phone.
JARVIS
Mr. Stark. Mr. Stark.
Tony rolls over in his bed and puts a pillow over his ear.
JARVIS
Mr. Stark. The power has gone out.
Tony jolts upright.
TONY
What?
Tony grabs his phone, commands Jarvis to turn on the flashlight feature, and runs down to his lab.
TONY
How did the power shut down, Jarvis?
Tony runs over to a panel on the wall and flips some switches, rebooting the power. The lights come back on.
JARVIS
It appears an energy surge from the cellar shut down the power.
TONY
(mutters)
Loki!
INT. KITCHEN - NIGHT
Natasha Romanov sleepily wanders to the fridge and opens it.
She bends down to the shelf with her name on it. It's empty.
Natasha frowns.
NATASHA
(groans)
I wanted that cake!
(beat)
Stupid boys.
Natasha walks out of the kitchen, heading towards her room.
INT. KITCHEN/LIVING ROOM - MORNING
Thor sits at a bar stool chair in front of the island counter, eating large plate of waffles. Bruce Banner stands across the counter, making oatmeal.
THOR
So, is it really true? You can control when you turn... you know? Big and green.
BRUCE
(annoyed)
Yes. I CAN control it.
THOR
I don't believe that's true.
Bruce gives Thor a look.
BRUCE
It's true.
Steve Rogers and Clint Barton walk into the kitchen. Clint sits at the bar next to Thor, and Steve opens the fridge.
Suddenly, Thor stands and roars like a bear, throwing the rest of his waffles at Bruce.
Bruce jumps back in shock, but quickly recovers. Steve bends his knees and stands ready for an attack. Clint pulls out his bow subconsciously.
Thor pouts.
Steve shakes his head. Clint sighs. They resume what they were doing before.
THOR
I thought that would work. What a waste of a perfectly good breakfast.
Steve and Clint laugh. Bruce smiles.
BRUCE
You can't make me become... him.
THOR
Ah, but that doesn't mean I can't try.
Natasha walks in and sits next to Clint.
NATASHA
Hey, Steve? Could you grab the chocolate cake off my shelf? I'm starving, and I was REALLY LOOKING FORWARD to eating it.
Steve looks and closes the fridge.
STEVE
There's nothing there. Someone must have gotten to it.
CLINT
Chocolate cake for breakfast, Nat?
Natasha ignores Clint's comment, but she notices the waffles spread across the countertop and floor, and Thor's empty plate.
NATASHA
Thor? Did you eat my food?
THOR
No. I would never do such a thing.
NATASHA
Well...
Natasha looks around at everyone.
NATASHA (CONT'D)
Whoever did is going to pay.
INT. TONY'S LAB - DAY
Tony stands in front of his desk, building an energy wall.
TONY
Jarvis, give me the measurements on Loki's cell.
JARVIS
Transmitting measurements now, sir.
A quiet ding is heard. Tony opens a holographic file and programs the energy wall to adjust to the right size when attached to the cell.
TONY
Should be... Done.
Tony rubs his hands together.
TONY
Well Jarvis, I guess we should tell the others.
JARVIS
That would be wise, sir.
INT. LIVING ROOM - DAY
Steve and Clint sit on the couch. Steve reads a book, while Clint is reading something on an iPad.
Natasha storms into the living room.
NATASHA
I know it was one of you!
Steve and Clint look at each other and raise their eyebrows.
CLINT
Nat, you still mad about your chocolate cake?
NATASHA
Of course I'm mad about my chocolate cake! I know it wasn't Bruce. He eats like a bird. Thor claims he's innocent, and Tony's been in his lab all day.
Steve bites his bottom lip and looks over at Clint.
STEVE
Barton, I don't think we'll get out of this one.
NATASHA
WHAT? It was both of you!
CLINT
(sighs)
Sorry, Nat, but we were hungry!
NATASHA
So you ate MY food?
STEVE
You kind of had all the good stuff. Is there anything we can do to make it up to you?
CLINT
No, Steve, don't ask that! She'll put us to work for a month.
NATASHA
Alright you fools, drive me to the store and we'll call it even.
Steve and Clint stand up simultaneously.
STEVE AND CLINT
Sure!
Natasha turns around and starts to walk away.
NATASHA
But this time, we're buying more food.
Before Natasha can walk out of the room, Tony blocks her path.
TONY
No, don't leave. You need to hear this too.
NATASHA
What is it?
Tony and and Natasha stand in front of the coffee table. Steve and Clint are still sitting on the couch.
TONY
Last night, the power went out.
Surprise covers the other's faces.
TONY
Don't worry, I rebooted it, as you can tell.
Tony gestures around them.
TONY
It was Loki's fault.
STEVE
I though he couldn't use his powers inside the cell.
TONY
That's what I thought. Apparently, it's not strong enough. I designed an energy field for his cell, though. It should block his powers now.
CLINT
Should?
TONY
There's no way to test it.
NATASHA
So we just wait around and hope it works?
TONY
Yep.
STEVE
I don't like this idea.
CLINT
It's Loki. If he can somehow use magic and escape-
TONY
That won't happen. I won't let it happen.
INT. BRUCE'S LAB - LATER
Bruce sits at his desk fiddling with metal parts to a machine.
Suddenly, Thor pops up behind the desk and screams at Bruce.
Bruce yells, drops his things, and falls out of his chair onto the floor.
Thor laughs and peers over the desk.
BRUCE
(groans)
Didn't work.
Thor helps Bruce stand up.
BRUCE
When will you stop?
THOR
When you become green.
Just then, Tony walks into Bruce's lab.
TONY
Not a good idea, Thor.
Thor frowns.
TONY
I need to talk to you two. Everyone else knows already. Your brother-
Tony points to Thor.
TONY (CONT'D)
-managed to turn off the power last night. He could've escaped, but he didn't. So I made an energy wall to try to contain his powers.
THOR
Give me the chance to speak to my brother. I will put him straight.
Thor pounds a fist into his palm.
TONY
Mm, I don't think that's necessary. The wall-
BRUCE
You couldn't have had time to test it. Tony, if the wall doesn't work-
TONY
It has to.
BRUCE
But Tony, listen to me. If it doesn't work, you won't have time to build something else. You're going to need outside help.
TONY
I though we agreed Asgard wasn't going to get involved.
BRUCE
That's not what I meant. Maybe you need someone working for you to help contain Loki. Like an assistant.
TONY
I hate that idea. I don't need an assistant.
BRUCE
But Tony, that may be the only option.
INT. GROCERY STORE - LATER
Steve pushes a shopping cart filled with food as Natasha and Clint walk beside him.
CLINT
Wait turn here! Thor wanted Cheetos remember?
STEVE
That wasn't on the list.
CLINT
Eh, he said he'd curse me to the deepest pits of Niflheimr if we didn't get him some more. And you never know with that guy...
Natasha reaches for the Cheetos.
NATASHA
How many bags?
STEVE
Just get two.
CLINT
Three.
STEVE
What?
CLINT
I want some.
STEVE
Fine. Three.
Natasha puts the Cheetos in the cart, and they all walk towards the refrigerated section.
NATASHA
Any other things that aren't on the list?
CLINT
Chobani yogurt!
Steve and Natasha both stare at Clint.
CLINT
What? I'll eat it!
NATASHA
We know you will, Clint. It just sounded random. You can pick out what you want.
Clint looks next to the yogurt and sees ice cream in another door.
CLINT
Ice cream sounds good, too.
STEVE
(sighs)
Can we hurry?
CLINT
Yeah, just let me...
Clint turns around with his arms full of yogurt cups and ice cream containers.
Natasha's eyes widen.
NATASHA
Think you got enough?
CLINT
Well, Thor always steals my ice cream, so may as well get extra.
STEVE
Tony will be pleased to see his money is being put to good use.
Natasha laughs.
NATASHA
Whatever it takes to keep you two away from my chocolate cake.
Natasha glares at Steve and Clint.
Steve leans over to Clint.
STEVE
(whispers)
Yeah, she'd kill us before Tony finds out about how much we spent.
Natasha glares at them again and takes the cart, marching away.
INT. CELLAR - LATER
Tony and Bruce carry Tony's energy wall invention into the cellar. They place it outside Loki's cell.
Loki stands in front of them behind the glass, his hands behind his back and his head cocked to side.
LOKI
What are you doing?
BRUCE
Blocking your powers.
LOKI
It's not powers. It's magic. And that will never work.
TONY
That's where you're wrong, Reindeer Games.
Bruce steps back, as Tony activates the energy shield.
TONY
Try what you want, but this should work.
Bruce gives Tony a warning look. Tony ignores him.
Loki gives a sly smile.
LOKI
Don't doubt that I will.
Tony and Bruce exit the cellar.
INT. KITCHEN/LIVING ROOM - LATER
Natasha and Steve unpack the groceries. Steve goes back and forth from the bags to the pantry, and Natasha loads food into the fridge. Clint sits on a barstool at the counter.
Bruce walks into the kitchen.
BRUCE
Hey guys, did you hear Tony may be hiring?
CLINT
Why would we need to know? We already work here.
Bruce laughs and rolls his eyes.
BRUCE
I mean, someone new may be coming to stay here.
NATASHA
Really? Stark is the kind of guy that would rather work all night long than hire extra help.
BRUCE
Yeah, but Loki is becoming a problem, and we don't have the time to set aside projects and focus entirely on temperamental gods.
STEVE
If Tony really doesn't want to hire, couldn't we pitch in?
CLINT
(groans)
STEVE! Why you gotta keep signing me up for this stuff?
BRUCE
I'm afraid this job calls for someone just as experienced in tech as Tony.
NATASHA
That's gonna be hard to find.
Suddenly, the power goes out. The fridge light turn off.
BRUCE
(whines)
Not the power again.
STEVE
Is it Loki?
Bruce runs out of the room.
Clint shrugs his shoulders.
Natasha, Clint, and Steve follow Bruce out of the room.
INT. CELLAR - CONTINUOUS
Tony runs into the cellar to find it completely empty.
Bruce comes in next, followed by Natasha, Clint, and Steve. Thor comes in last.
Tony puts his hands to his head and pulls his hair.
TONY
Agh! How!?
THOR
Your wall wasn't good enough, evidently.
CLINT
Ya think?
Bruce pinches the bridge of his nose.
THOR
Do not fret, mortals. I will find him.
TONY
The power is out, so the tower is locked down.
THOR
That makes this easier.
Thor walks away from the others to find Loki.
BRUCE
Tony, you need to hire someone.
TONY
I know, I know.
STEVE
Do you know where to start?
TONY
Mm, I know an old friend.
INT. LIVING ROOM - LATER
Bruce sits in a chair. Clint and Natasha sit on the couch. Steve stands in the kitchen area munching on a snack.
Tony walks in with a young lady following him. She is younger than the rest of the Avengers, and her curly blonde hair makes her stand out.
Steve puts down his snack and walks over to the couches.
TONY
(gestures)
Team! Meet your newest member, Adeline Fisher.
ADI
You can call me Adi.
TONY
(gestures)
Adi, team.
(beat)
Adi is almost as well-versed as me in building new technology. She can help us update our security.
ADI
You won't have to worry about Loki anymore. He'll be well contained.
Steve, Bruce, Natasha, and Clint all shake hands with Adi and introduce themselves.
STEVE
So you're going to be living here like the rest of us?
TONY
Yep. Just think of her as the newest addition to the Avengers. Just she'll be home base.
ADI
Yeah, I won't be going on missions, but I'll be working here!
TONY
If you'll excuse us, we have some work to do.
(beat)
Oh! Did Thor ever find his maniac of a brother?
They hear a yell from downstairs.
THOR
Where do I put him?
Tony yells back.
TONY
In the cellar!
They can still hear Thor's voice.
THOR
Brother, get in there now! Don't make me -
They hear the elevator door close.
NATASHA
(with wide, annoyed eyes)
Well, you'll meet them soon, Adi.
Adi laughs.
Tony leads her out of the room.
INT. TONY'S LAB
Tony opens some holographic files at his desk.
TONY
And this is everything I've been working on in regards to Loki.
ADI
Okay. Looks like if I adjust some of your work -
TONY
Adjust my work?
Adi smiles.
ADI
Your work isn't perfect, Tony.
Tony sarcastically gasps.
Adi laughs.
ADI
I'll also build some new equipment to help keep Loki locked up.
Tony salutes Adi.
TONY
You're the boss of security now.
(beat)
Oh! You haven't met Jarvis yet. Jarvis, meet Adi.
Jarvis's voice echoes around the room.
JARVIS
It is nice to meet you, Adi. I will give you access to Mr. Stark's files so you can begin working.
ADI
Thank you, Jarvis.
TONY
Your room is all ready, and I also set up a special lab for you.
Adi smiles.
INT. ADI'S LAB
Tony and Adi walk in.
TONY
Behold! Your lab, madam.
(beat)
Do you like it?
Adi's mouth drops open. She wanders around the room looking at every little detail.
ADI
Tony, this is more than I could've ever asked for. Thank you!
TONY
(sheepishly)
Ah, it's nothing.
(beat)
I'll leave you to get started.
Tony leaves.
INT. KITCHEN
Thor makes himself a sandwich as Bruce walks in.
Thor smiles to himself.
Bruce opens the fridge, yells, and jumps back a mile.
Thor booms with laughter.
BRUCE
What was that? Did you poke me?
THOR
Yes. With this knife.
Thor shows him a butter knife.
Bruce's eyes widen.
BRUCE
You poked me with a knife?!
Thor chuckles.
THOR
Yes. But you didn't turn green.
BRUCE
How many times do I have to tell you I can CONTROL IT. When will you believe me?
THOR
I guess it is true. After all this time, you haven't turned into him.
Bruce is so happy Thor finally understands.
BRUCE
Yeah!
INT. CELLAR - LATER
Adi walks over to Loki's cell. He is bound at the wrists and has a taser around his neck. He can't move his wrists apart or leave his cell or he'll be electrocuted.
Loki notices her coming, and he stands up. He walks to the edge of the glass.
Adi gives Loki a death stare.
LOKI
Nice to meet you, too.
ADI
Don't be funny with me, Loki. Do you know how much damage you caused at the Battle of New York?
LOKI
Quite a lot, I can imagine.
ADI
You killed millions!
LOKI
I'm so sorry.
ADI
You deserve to be locked up this cell forever.
LOKI
Forever is a long time.
Adi rolls her eyes.
ADI
I'm going to build a cell that you'll never be able to escape.
Loki smiles.
LOKI
Try.
ADI
What?
LOKI
Try to build a cell that I can't break out of. I am a god. I can use my magic. You will never be able to control me.
Adi stares crossly at Loki. After a few moments, she turns to leave.
Loki yells after her.
LOKI
I look forward to seeing you again.
Adi slams open the door to hallway.
ADI
(mutters)
I hate you.
INT. ADI'S LAB - NIGHT
Adi sits at her desk and rubs her eyes. She doesn't notice Tony walk in.
TONY
It's late. You should get some rest.
Adi turns around in her chair to face Stark.
ADI
(sighs)
I know.
TONY
Whatever you're working on, I can take over from here. That is, if it needs to be finished quickly.
ADI
No, it can wait.
TONY
Um. I've been meaning to ask you... I saw you walk out of the cellar earlier -
Adi closes her eyes.
ADI
Ugh.
(opens eyes)
I'm sorry if I seemed a little agitated.
TONY
Loki tends to do that to people.
Adi gives Tony a half smile.
ADI
I just really hate that he would let so many people die.
TONY
Well, he was trying to take over the world.
ADI
I know, but I just don't understand how someone could be okay with killing so many people.
Tony gives Adi a sympathetic look.
TONY
He'll pay for what he did. Believe me. We'll make sure of it.
END OF ACT III.
TAG
INT. KITCHEN - DAY
Steve and Clint sit at the counter. Natasha opens the fridge.
NATASHA
(yells)
Steve! Clint!
Steve and Clint start falling over with fits of laughter.
STEVE
Check our shelves.
Natasha glares at Steve and Clint.
