Moo Chi stared at the girl in is car, who was staring back and him. She was looking at him with big eyes, shaking a bit. She was dirty from mud and her hair was full of twigs.
"How did you get in my car?" he asked her loudly. She flinched back from him and started to cry.
"Hey, hey, don't cry. I didn't mean it like that." He tried to comfort her. A car behind him honked at him. He looked out annoyed at the other car, but decided to park first, the girl still crying.
He stepped out of the car and opened the door to the backseat.
"Can I come in. I mean no harm" he asked, trying to smile reassuringly. She nodded hesitantly. Moo Chi went inside the car and sat beside her. She pulled back a little bit, pulling the coat she was under up a bit higher.
"Aah, are you warm enough?" he asked her. She nodded again, keeping her eyes focused on him.
"Can I ask what you are doing in my car? Were you in the reed field?" he said gently. He had just left from the reed field, not stopped anywhere, so he guessed she had come in his car there.
"Uncle said that I would be safe here." She said softly.
"uncle?"
"Yes, he saved me from the bad guy. He took me to the car and said I would be safe in there."
"Aah, and who is uncle?" he asked. She frowned a bit.
"I don't know."
"What did he look like?"
"I couldn't see, it was too dark."
"Aah," Moo Chi said and looked at the kid. She was now evading his eyes instead of looking in them.
"I'll bring you to the police station. We'll try to contact your parents there." He said to the girl, knowing it was best not to interrogate children without their legal guardians and perhaps even a child psychologist, seeing it was Kang Duk Soo who took her.
Bong Yi was waiting in the waiting room at the hospital. They had taken her grandmother for several examinations and X-rays to what's wrong and they would return as soon as possible to inform her of how she was. But for now she was waiting. She was so nervous that she was biting her nails. If her grandmother was here, she would have scolded her.
"Bong Yi?" a voice said behind her.
"Chi Kook, what are you doing here?"
"Soo Jin called that you were here. Ba Reum couldn't come because he's sick and she called me to be with you." Chi Kook explained.
"Did you hear anything about your grandmother yet?"
"No, they took her for Xray's and all, but they haven't come back yet."
"It's okay, they will come soon." Chi Kook grabbed her hand in his to comfort her.
Bong Yi swallowed her tears for the tenth time that evening, and nodded her thanks.
"Miss Oh Bong Yi?" a man said behind her.
"Yes?" she jumped out of her seat.
"I'm doctor Sung Yo Han." The man said in a monotone, "I'm your grandmother's doctor."
"How is she doing?"
"For now she is still unconscious. She took a hit to the head, but as far as we could see there were no fractures or haemorrhages. She does have a lot of bruises. We'll wait until she wakes up to see how coherent she is, but we don't expect any problems."
"Thank you." She said. The doctor barely nodded and left, leaving her standing there. A nurse that was standing nearby came up.
"You can go see her now. I'll show you her room." Bong Yi said, while quickly following the nurse. Chi Kook grabbed her coat and bag and quickly followed her.
Reporters had heard the new about Kang Duk Soo and were swarming the entrance hall in the hospital.
Because of the public interest and in full agreement with the police department a briefing would be held on the medical condition of Kang Duk Soo.
"Kang Duk Soo was brought in here with multiple abrasions, broken bones. He was also strangled, probably until he fell unconscious.
We have treated him and for now he remains in a coma. His live is not in danger anymore, but due to oxygen shortage, we do not know if there will be any lasting brain damage." The doctor said and stepped away from the desk. A police officer took his place.
"We would like to ask the public if anyone has seen any suspicious person in the area were Kang Duk Soo was found. He would probably have been muddied due to the reed fields condition. Please call the police department if you have any information." The police officer bowed and stepped down as well.
Soo Jin saw the press release. So they were trying to find out who hurt Kang Duk Soo. She looked at the bedroom of Ba Reum, who finally had fallen asleep.
Yeah, as if she would let them find out. And then arrest him for a murder attempt right, even when he saved a girl's live when justice let that bastard go free.
She opened up her computer and made an account to post several messages on social media. Let's see if she can start a riot of outrage on the internet.
Moo Chi had gotten the girl to the police station and carried her out of the car. She had fallen asleep before he had arrived and he didn't have to the heart to wake her up.
He put her on a couch to sleep further.
"What did you bring in?" the chief asked him when he saw Moo Chi carrying the girl in.
"She was apparently taken by Kang Duk Soo." Moo Chi said, carefully arranging the coat over the young girl.
"Did we have anyone reported missing recently?" Moo Chi asked.
"Not in our precinct. Perhaps her parents didn't notice it yet. If she was taking in the middle of the night, they could have been asleep already."
"We'll ask when she wakes up then. She saw the guy who beat up Kang Duk Soo, but I don't think she feels safe enough to tell."
"I'll call in the child psychologist Otherwise we'll have a lawyer on her hands saying that we traumatised her." The commander went back into his office and made some calls.
Moo Chi said leaned back with his feet on his desk, falling asleep in an uncomfortable position until the girl would finally wake up.
A few hours later he startled awake when he heard a soft noise coming from the girl. She was tossing and turning, probably in a nightmare.
He jumped up from his chair and shook her a little bit, trying to wake her up. Her eyes flew wide and she looked up at him with tears in her eyes.
"Hey, it's okay. We are at the police station." He said. She said up slowly and looked around.
"Can you tell me your name?"
"Yu Na." she whispered.
"Aah, Yu Na, that's a pretty name." Moo Chi said with a big smile, patting her hand.
"We can call your parents now. Do you have their names and address or know the phone number." He asked.
She nodded.
"It's just my mother. I know the number."
"Aah, that would be nice." she told him the number and he immediately called her mother, even though it was still extremely early in the morning.
"Wha? Who calls at this time, seriously." A slurred voice said on the other side of the line. Moo Chi frowned. It didn't sound like a normal sleeping voice, more like him when he had been dead drunk the night before.
"Madame, we have your daughter here with us." Moo Chi said.
"That's not possible." He heard some stumbling, "Yu Na, Yu Na, come here." He heard shouting. "Yu Na?"
"She's here madame, at the police station. It's best that you come here. She was taken by someone and we would like to ask her some question, but we want to wait until you are here." He said, his voice a bit flat.
"I'll come immediately. Is she okay, please tell me she's okay."
"She is not hurt physically, but she's very shaken. We can tell you more after you arrived."
Morning came and Ba Reum slowly blinked his eyes. The sun was shining through his curtains, making his eyes hurt.
He felt light headed and dizzy and then he remembered what had happened the evening before. He got out of bed at lightning speed, ignoring the nausea that accompanied that movement.
"Mum? Where are you?" he asked and stumbled out of the bedroom.
Soo Jin was just preparing some breakfast for her son and her son.
"Calm down." She said and made him sit down in a chair.
"For starters; Kang Duk Soo is still alive." Ba Reum let out a sigh of relieve at that news.
"That's good, oh mum, I was so afraid." He said.
"I know, it's okay, but they are searching for the one who beat him up though." Ba Reum swallowed dryly. Soo jin quickly poured him a cup of tea.
"They are not going to find you." She reached over and patted his hand "For today I have called your work, saying you are too sick to come. Try to stay calm and soon it will blow over."
Ba Reum looked a bit relieved.
"Did anyone ever tell you that you're the best mum ever." He said to her.
"They do." Soo jin smiled at her son.
Her phone ringed, and she picked it up.
"Hello, Jung Soo Jin."
"Hey Soo Jin, It's Min Ho here. We got a call from the police department to ask for a psychologist to interrogate a child. Our normal psychologist is on holiday. Could you do it?" Min Ho asked. She was the secretary of the psychologist department. Soo Jin blinked at the sudden request.
"Yes, of course. When do I have to be there." Soo jin couldn't believe her luck. It probably was Kang Duk Soo's victim. Tis way she could make sure that she wouldn't revaeal anything about Ba Reum.
"I'll be there."
Detective Sang was standing at the murder scene, trying to keep his stomach contents where they belonged. He was used to some stuff, but this was awful.
The murder had just been called in. The neighbour had seen blood seeping from under the door.
It was extremely brutal. The body was cut open, all the organs had been displaced, as if the murderer had put something in the cavity that pushed and squished all the organs to the side.
The floor was covered with blood, which was already starting to congeal and attract flies, even in this cold weather.
Sang sighed and went outside to call Moo Chi. No sooner had he grabbed his phone he received a call.
"Detective Sang." He answered his phone, almost dropping his notebook at the same time.
"This is dispatch. We have another murderscene. It just got called in."
"I know, I'm there." Sang said slightly annoyed.
"No, we have another one. Strangled, hand tied together. No wounds for the rest."
Sang looked up. He definitely needed to call Moo chi.
