Chapter 88: Clarke
After lunch, Lexa and I went back to the hotel to rest. I was snuggled with my head on Lexa's shoulder while she ran her hands through my hair. I was so relaxed but anxious at the same time. I was absently running my fingers under her shirt up and down her washboard abs, "Babe, you awake?"
"Yeah."
"So, what are your thoughts now that you have talked to Pav?"
"I don't know. I don't like not knowing what is waiting once we get underground, but I am worried about getting out once we get in. I mean, getting in will be pretty simple because we are so-called prisoners but coming out, we will be met by at least forty-five armed guards. I would prefer to take out the guards on the way in, but that would most likely trigger some sort of lockdown, and then we wouldn't be able to get in. I just can't figure out how to…I just don't know. I don't want you to worry, but I just don't have a great feeling about this."
"Can't you just call it off, at least until you have better information? I don't want to lose you. I can't lose you. We need you." She says as she places her hand on her tiny baby bump.
"Hey, I told you I'm not going anywhere. I promise I'm going to be with you when these two little ones come into the world, no matter what I have to do.
Clarke
A few hours later, we were curled up in bed together, watching a movie and relaxing. When I had a thought. "Are you disappointed that they are both girls?"
"What? Why would I be disappointed?"
"Well, you just seem to be so good with Asher…I thought that you might like to have a son. Did you want a son?"
Lexa shrugs. "I just want kids with you. I wasn't that particular about the gender, but what's to say that we won't have a son later on."
"Seriously, you want to have more?"
Lexa smiles, "I'm not sure, but it is always possible."
"But if we don't have more, are you sure you will be okay with just having girls?"
"What did you want?"
"Part of me wanted one of each, but when I found out they were both girls, it seemed perfect to me. Two women, two little girls. If we did have a boy, he'd be growing up in a house full of women. I'm not sure he'd love that."
I laugh. "So, you don't feel like you'll be missing out by not having a son?"
"Not really," says Lexa. "I mean, what could I do with a son that I can't do with my daughters?"
I ponder that. "Nothing. I can't think of anything."
"I think gender is a little overrated sometimes. Look at us. We're not that gender-conforming. I'm an orphan that was forced to be a soldier, and now I'm a UFC fighter, you're a doctor, we're going to be married to each other. We are both survivors, smart and badass so, we know better than to think having girls means all we're going to talk about is Disney princesses for the next 20 years."
"Very true," I agree. "So, we know that they are girls. How much does that even tell us about them?"
"It tells me we get to raise two strong, intelligent girls instead of one. Which sounds amazing, especially if one of them looks like you." Lexa says.
"Will you be disappointed if she doesn't?"
"There you go again with that 'disappointed' stuff. Clarke let's get one thing straight: having kids with you is something beyond my wildest dreams. It's not humanly possible for me to be disappointed in this situation. These babies are not going to be anything short of amazing because we are bringing them into the world together."
I break into a smile. Somehow Lexa always manages to make me feel like the most special person in the world and knows exactly what to say to make me feel better. "Um…babe, do you think it is possible to get a peanut butter sandwich with hot sauce from room service?"
Lexa looks down at me with a confused look, "What?"
"Well…I suddenly want peanut butter and hot sauce, so why not combine them on a sandwich. Come to think about it, some hot chicken wings would be amazing!"
At this point, Lexa is giving me that trademark smirk, "I'm not sure about room service, but if they can't do it. I will go out and get you both of them. I'm guessing that this is your first craving."
I smile and nod as she picks up the phone to call room service.
