Chapter 92: Lexa
The next morning after breakfast, we pack up most of the camp while Pav makes a couple of trips to Kyiv, taking the group back to the city. When he is about to leave on his last trip, I pull him aside and give him a list of supplies to pick up. Unfortunately, Clarke refuses to go into the city and insists on staying on the houseboat with Abby and Kane while we infiltrate the facility. I don't have the heart to argue with her, mainly because I feel like she is safer out here.
The rest of us spend the day going over the plan and training with our new gear. I have to admit, I was skeptical about the weapons because of how thin they were. I was afraid they would break easily, but they don't. Trust me, I have tried. Pav gets back right before dinner, so I go help him unload the supplies. It's mostly food, ammo, and the stuff from my special list.
He hands me a cooler and says, "Here is what you asked for."
I open the lid and see three containers of chocolate ice cream, caramel topping, and three different kinds of nut toppings. "Thank you so much, Pav! Clarke is going to love this. She had a pregnancy craving last night for this, and I felt helpless not being able to provide it for her." While Abby and Kane finish cooking dinner, I sneak off to the clearing with the cooler and blanket.
After dinner is over and everyone is turning in for the night, I ask Clarke, "Would you be up for another late-night stroll?"
"Of course, especially if it ends like the one last night."
I raise my eyebrow and chuckle, "You mean with you devouring a candy bar in two bites?"
"Ha Ha. That wasn't the part I was talking about, but it was delicious."
"Well, I may have something better for tonight."
"Oh, really? And what might that be?"
"Follow me, and you will find out."
Once we get to the clearing, I light the candles and help her get situated on the ground. Next, I ask her to close her eyes and hold out her hands. Then go over to the cooler, pull out one of the cartons of ice cream, and hand it to her with a spoon. She immediately opens her eyes and has the biggest smile on her face that I have ever seen. "You weren't supposed to open your eyes yet. I wasn't finished."
"I couldn't help it! I knew what it was because it is cold. What else do you have?"
"A little greedy, are you." I pull out the toppings she had asked for last night and handed them over to her.
"Are you kidding me right now? How…how did you pull this off?" She jumps up and tackles me to the ground, peppering me in kisses.
I laugh, "You better get to eating before it melts. I'm guessing this is something that you are still craving?"
"Hell yeah, it is! Did you bring bowls?"
"Um, no. After seeing what you did to that candy bar, I didn't see the point. I figured you could just eat it out of the carton."
"Have I told you lately how much I love you and that you are the most amazing fiancé I have ever had?"
"I hope that I am the only fiancé you have ever had or ever will have, but no, you haven't told me that lately."
"Uh, you know what I meant. Baby, you really are the most amazing, romantic, caring, loyal person I have ever met, and I can't believe that I will get to spend the rest of my life with you raising our kids. I love you sooo much."
"I love you too, Clarke Griffin, my baby mama. Now eat your ice cream so we can get to other activities."
It doesn't take her long to inhale the carton of ice cream, and then we spend the next couple of hours exploring every inch of one another like it was the last time we would ever see each other. I wanted her to know exactly how much I love her because, in reality, this may be the last time we can do this. I wish I didn't have such a bad feeling about this extraction mission.
When we walk back into camp, Pav is pulling the fishing boat up on the sandy shore. "Where have you been, Pav?" I ask.
"I just met with one of my friends about the vehicle drop. We hid an old jeep in the shed of one of the abandoned houses at the end of the road like you asked. The keys are under the floor mat on the passenger's side. Everything else is ready. I will drop Lincoln and Logan in their locations in the early afternoon tomorrow and then take my place after dark."
"That sounds good, thanks." I grab Clarke's hand in mine and continue on to the houseboat, where Abby and Kane are sitting at the table drinking whiskey. "Hey, guys. What are we drinking too?"
Abby says, "Just trying to calm the jitters about tomorrow. Would you like a drink?"
"I wouldn't say no, to a shot of tequila."
Abby laughs and slides a pre-poured shot to me, "I had a feeling you would say that. Clarke, there is juice in the fridge."
Clarke and I sit down with them at the table. I take my shot, and Abby pours another. When I look at Clarke, I can see that she is about to start crying again. So I squeeze her leg, go out to the cooler, grab another carton of ice cream and the toppings, bring it in, and place it in front of Clarke.
She looks up at me with a smile, "You have more? I thought I ate it all earlier."
"Nope, I had Pav pick up a couple of cartons. You have this one and one more to last you until we get to the plane. I have already called and had it stocked with plenty of ice cream and toppings for the trip home. If there is something else that you are craving, just let me know, and I will make sure that you have it."
She kisses my cheek, "You really are amazing!"
Marcus says, "Aww, you guys are so cute. Abby was just telling me about your wedding idea. It sounds like it is going to be amazing."
"I hope so. I just want Clarke to have whatever she wants. Once we get home, I will set up a zoom meeting for Clarke and Abby with the wedding planner on the island."
Abby says, "I can't wait to take you, girls, shopping for wedding dresses!"
I spew my mouthful of tequila, barely missing Abby with it. "What? Are you saying that I have to wear a dress?"
Abby smiles, "Well, that's what women usually wear to get married."
Clarke starts laughing, and Abby joins in, "Babe, she is kidding. You can wear whatever you want. It doesn't have to be a dress, although I bet you would look amazing in one."
"Um…uh…I-I don't really enjoy dresses, but if that is what you want. I will wear one."
"I would never make you wear something that makes you uncomfortable, but maybe you could try one on just so I can see you in it."
"Sure, I can do that. I think that I'm going to go to bed. Will you come with me?"
"Of course."
