In the days that followed the arrest of the murderers and several OZ members, they got the two who had kidnapped Moo Won. After they confessed, Moo Chi was exonerated. The chief had been relieved, because that meant that they had an extra detective back in the fold.
They were short 3 now after the big reveal, 3 of them whom had been members of OZ.
Moo Chi was welcomed back, and immediately returned to be in charge of the womb stealer case. Father Ko likewise got out of hiding and gave his own version of the kidnapping. The OZ members confessed to their crimes, claiming that they didn't really want to hurt the priest, but they had to keep Moo Chi silent.
One of the other detective at the station had seen the information that Moo Chi had found and had reported back to them. That's why they took Father Ko. They would have returned him after.
"After what?" the chief had asked.
"After we rid the world of psychopaths." Their answer was. The chief had looked at them in disgust and ordered them back to the cells.
Now that the culprits were caught, Moo Chi was once again invited on Hong Ju's show, explaining how they found all the connections between the victim and the culprits.
It was well received, and after everything, it put back a bit of faith in the police.
Moo Chi was just finishing up some paperwork from the case, happy to have if all over with. His phone went and he looked at the caller ID. He frowned a bit when he saw it was Ba Reum. What did he want now.
The moment he picked up the phone, he heard a panicked Ba Reum.
"We got the wrong person. The killer isn't the father, it's the mother." Ba Reum said in a panic, too quickly to understand.
"Wow, slow down. What the hell are you talking about." Moo Chi asked, hoping that he had misheard.
"My mother woke up. She said it was the son with the mother that killed him, not the father. It was the Mother." Ba Reum said.
"What? You are sure?"
"Yes, my mom woke up, and told me it was a woman. I showed her a picture of the wife, and she told me she was the one." Ba Reum forced out, "we have to get her before she runs. The wild media attention has started to cool down. This is the moment that she will run."
"God damn it." Moo Chi shouted and ran off to his car, driving away as quickly as possible, his tires screeching when he took off.
Ba Reum was right. The chance that she would disappear before the OZ members would rat her out is great. The media attention had been shifting from the murders to the OZ conspiracy, so the attention would be off of her.
This would enable her to sneak away without the media recorder where she is going.
He reached the villa just in time. The taxi was already standing in front of the door, being loaded with suitcases.
"Detective, what are you doing here. Want to ruin more lives." The doctor said miserably, her mascara had run out a bit because she had been crying.
The chauffeur who was loading in the suitcases looked uncomfortable.
Moo Chi came closer, making sure that he was in between the chauffeur and the woman, then he pulled out his gun.
"You are under arrest for the serial killings related to the womb stealer case and the attempted murder of Jung Soo Jin." He said, aiming his gun at her. The woman looked surprised.
"What, I didn't do that. You already arrested my husband for that." She cried out, her eyes leaking tears, "do you want to destroy my reputation as well." She shouted out.
"Nice try. We have evidence that it was you. Now show your hands where I can see them." Moo said, trying to inch closer so that he could cuff her.
"Mom, is that true?" the 12 year daughter appeared at the door of the house.
Doctor Cha's eyes hardened immediately when she understood that Moo Chi was indeed arresting her, realising that she had been found out. She grabbed her daughter and pulled a pistol from her pocket. She held it to her daughters head.
The child looked terrified, but didn't protest.
"What are you doing?" Moo Chi asked startled, surprised that the woman would dare to threaten her own child.
"I'm getting out of here one way or another. One step closer and she gets a bullet to her brains. So detective, do you want to be responsible for the death of a child?" she asked, smirking.
Moo Chi looked at the child's terrified eyes, and lowered his gun. The woman laughed and went to the taxi, holding the child close to her and the gun to her temple. The child started to cry silently.
"Don't try to follow me." She said, shooting a bullet in his tight. He fell to the ground, groaning in pain. The taxi driver who was looking at them took that moment to run off, somewhere safely.
She was just pushing her daughter in the car and was about to get in herself, when suddenly she was tackled from the side. She tried to get up, but was immediately punched in the face.
Moo Chi looked in amazement when he saw how easily Bong Yi was restraining the doctor. Another man was running towards them, gasping.
"Hold her arms out, I got cuffs." He was wearing a prison guard uniform and he indeed had his cuffs with him.
The doctor was swearing when he put them around her hands, Bong Yi being perfectly capable of holding the woman restrained.
"What are you doing here." He said, holding the wound to his leg to make sure he doesn't bleed out. Instead of immediately answering him, she turned to the other guy.
"Chi Kook, call the hospital as well." The guy nodded and took his cell, calling the alarm number to ask for police and an ambulance.
"Are you okay detective?" Bong Yi asked.
"I will be fine." He said, "how come you are here?" he asked again.
She smiled at his question.
"Ba Reum called Chi Kook as well after he called you. He said you might need the back-up. It was just coincidence that I was with him as well." Bong Yi had been so happy that Ba Reum seemed to finally trust them to help him with this case.
Moo Chi nodded, happy that Ba Reum had called some back-up. Otherwise the woman would have gotten away. He let himself fall back, exhausted.
Chi Kook was holding on to the daughter, who was openly crying now, her mother swearing at her.
Detective Sang had the honour of the interrogation, seeing that Moo Chi was on a reluctant sick leave.
"Why did you kill these woman?" he asked her. It was amazing how this woman could look at him with such obvious annoyance.
"They were useless, not worth living." She said, looking at her nails.
"Useless why?"
"They couldn't even have kids. What use are they to society then?"
"Why did you start killing them?"
"Why not?" detective Sang did not let himself be goaded.
"Your husband was once married to one of the victims, did you know that." He asked and she snorted at that, looking up at him.
"He still loved that useless woman, you know. The thing couldn't even give him any children, and he loved her when he had me."
"So, you decided to kill her."
"Yes, better to get rid of her. Filth." She snarled.
"Why did you take your son with you?"
"It was better for him to quickly learn about how to make the world better. He was the one who noticed that his dad wanted to meet his old wife again. It seemed appropriate that he helped solve the problem."
"But why take him?"
"Because he killed the first one on his own. And what kind of bad mother would I be, if I didn't help my children."
Of course the minutes of the interview with the woman quickly leaked to the media. It was a shock to most people that it had been the son who had instigated these murders.
Of course Shin Young Choi took that as a way to make her agenda known to the public. Seeing as most members of OZ had been arrested and had closed ranks, it was up to her to announce what these people should see.
She would create her utopia.
When she finally consented to talking, but only in a full press conference, it was immediately granted.
"So you see, with the research of Dr Daniel Lee we can now find out who has the psychopath gene. This child was tested in the hospital, like we have been doing in several hospital's. From the moment we discovered he had this gene, we kept on following him, to prove that the research was a valid way for the society to get rid of serial killers." She explained passionately. She could see several people in the crowd slowly nod and knew that they agreed with her.
"Did you get the parents consent to use their children as labrats?" a journalist asked.
"We couldn't. For the safety of our society, these tests were held in secret."
Several questions were asked, but then the same journalist put his hand in the air again.
"What is the proof?" he asked.
"Proof?" she wondered what exactly he was talking about.
"About the gene? You are sure the child has it."
"We have the research of Dr Lee, and a positive test for the child."
"And the control group?"
"Control group?"
"Yes, like every science experiment you have to have more than one group. You conducted an experiment saying: all people with the psychopath gene are killers. You have one test subject. That's not exactly giving us a lot of proof."
"We have another one. The tie knot killer. He's also one with the psychopath gene." She explained, giving out the name. Everyone started to murmur.
"Two people, who you have followed and influenced yourself. Do you have a control group, of people with the gene you didn't interfere with?" the same journalist asked. Everyone was looking at her for answers.
She stayed silent.
"I know of the research of Dr Lee. It is said that the test doesn't differentiate between psychopath and genius. How do you deal with this?" The guy asked.
"We know we can't differentiate, but is it worth to take that change?" she asked the audience, "look at how many people were killed in the Womb stealer and Tie knot cases. Look at the Head Hunter." Still the journalist continues.
"You have tested the Head Hunter?" he asked surprised. She was taken aback.
"Well, we didn't no. But we are quite sure that if we did, he would be positive for the test." A lot of murmuring followed and she felt as if she was loosing control of the situation.
"From all the people born with the gene, how many turn out to be psychopaths? Have their been any tests that have proven that every one born with this gene will turn out to be a psychopath?"
"There have been tests done on all known serial killers and almost all of them share the gene." the guy snorted.
"Most serial killers are also male. Do you suggest we kill all male children as well." The crowd laughed at the suggestion.
The woman ignored the journalist.
"I propose a bill were all the children with the gene will be aborted before they are born." The crowd breathed in shocked.
"Based on a theory that proves nothing. Go to any genius school and do the same test there. How many will turn out to have the gene? Do you condemn them?" the journalist asked, and before she could answer, he continued talking.
"And what about everyone who is already born? Are you going to do the test on them as well and arrest everyone with the gene and put them in prison for live, or just directly apply the death penalty?"
The discussion broke out and no one noticed when the journalist left.
Ba Reum got in the car, and breathed in relief. Time to visit his mother now.
