Hey readers! Hope you like this chapter, it was a little bit of a pain.
Isabelle saw the ravener's scorpion-like tail striking it's target—Clary. The force of the blow threw her tiny body backwards. Jace let out a cry and tried to rush forward, only to find himself held back by Alec. He struggled, but Alec won out and loosened his grip when Jace went limp.
"Clary? Clary, can you hear me?" Soni cried as she reached her.
Clary was Jace's everything, his all. He had loved her from the day he set eyes on her, but he'd never had an actual conversation with her. Unless you counted that in fifth grade Jace himself went to the school, even though he could have had Hodge—their tutor—teach him. He was glad Alec was with him then, he kept Jace from blurting it out then and there. He never knew why. Jace doubted that she even remembered him. And all he dreamt of was the day when he could tell her he loved her and how special she was.
"Isabelle, look. We'll have to tell her." She looked up from her phone, and saw Roxi coming.
"Alright fine," Jace felt the familiar icy-hotness that spread throughout his arm as he slashed my rune.
"Wha.. whe.. who.. Where did you come from? Who are you?" Roxi stuttered. Alec glanced up, confused when he heard her.
"It's okay, we're Nephilim. Shadowhunters. The protectors of this world. You and Soni and Clary and Layla are too. Our mission is to protect the world from demons. One of which, just poisoned your friend." Jace attempted to portray the seriousness of the situation on hand, but he doubted she was listening. Or Alec for that matter—he was too busy staring at Roxi like she was some Heaven-sent angel. "To protect mundanes without sharing the truth."
"What in the world is a mundane? There are demons? Yeah, I guess mummies and zombies exist too." She said, rolling her eyes.
"I like this one," Alec whispered in awe.
"They do exist. And mundies are just normal humans." Isabelle interjected.
"Wait, that was serious? You aren't human?"
"Uhh, yeah? We just have a little angel in us."
"Alright," Jace said, "what's going to happen is this. Isabelle, you and Alec get Clary back to the Institute. I'll go with Roxi."
"Where are we going?" She asked.
Alec looked at her with a calmness that scared. "You are going to get Layla. It's time your little group knew the truth."
Dun dun dun! Hope you liked it. Don't forget to R&R!
