Stupid Boy
Part Two
Author's Note: I really adore the relationship that Ava and Trina have and how Ava treats Trina like a daughter, so there's some of that in here. Also, this is going to be a three shot now. Next part will definitely be the last.
Trina sighed and pushed some curls behind her ear as she sat at her desk at the art gallery, taking out a pen. She knew that she could've called to ask off for the day, no problem, but she needed the distraction. Maybe work could get her mind off of the boy who'd betrayed her.
She heard heels clicking against the floor and then a hand on her shoulder.
"Trina?" Ava's familiar voice asked, tone filled with concern. "Are you feeling alright?"
The girl looked up, meeting her boss' eyes and nodded. "Um...I'm fine." She answered weakly, fiddling nervously with some papers on the desk.
The older woman frowned at that and pulled up a chair to sit beside the girl who'd become like a daughter to her. "You know, if something's wrong, you can tell me. Did you have a fight with your friends?"
Trina shook her head at that. "No. God, no. Cam and Joss are great. It's uh...it's about that Victor guy I've told you about. He's not exactly who he says that he is." A frowned marred her pretty face at that. "I mean, there were a lot of red flags from the very beginning. Not wanting to meet my friends, not wanting to meet me in a public place, not wanting me to show Joss or Cam the pictures of him that I took. Turns out that I never should've trusted him. I told Joss and Cam my suspicions and when they realized he really was bad news, Cam got me out of there and Joss threatened him."
"Oh, Trina, I'm so sorry that this boy didn't turn out to be who you thought he was." Ava said sympathetically, rubbing circles into the girl's back. "You really don't deserve that."
In response, she bit her lip hard, looking at her boss and mentor out of the corner of her eye. She so badly wanted to tell Ava what was up and who her "Victor" actually was. She wanted to tell the woman that Spencer had been the one stalking she and Nikolas and causing problems for them, a fact that Josslyn had figured out rather quickly, as soon as she'd seen that Victor was actually Spencer. A fact that Spencer had not denied. She hadn't witnessed Josslyn confronting Spencer with that fact, but her best friend had told her. Licking her lips, she opened her mouth and spoke, "I think that "Victor" might've been your stalker." It was said in what was practically a whisper, eyes locked on Ava.
Ava's brows furrowed in confusion. "I don't understand. Why would this boy be my stalker?"
"Victor is Spencer Cassadine. I didn't know until I asked Joss and Cam for their help and they met up with us on our date the other day. Joss and Cam instantly recognized him. Joss figured out that he was the stalker which she confronted me about after I'd left for the car with Cam. I should've known that was why he didn't want to meet them or for them to see his picture. They would've immediately told me who he was." Trina answered. "I had no idea that he was bad news or that he was after you and Mr. Cassadine, though, you've gotta believe me."
The older woman's expression softened and she shook her head. "Sweetheart, I know that you didn't know. You never would've befriended him if you had. The only one to blame for is him. It all makes sense, though. Nikolas was so convinced that it was one of his exes or Ryan after us. Neither of us ever even considered that it could be Spencer."
Trina nodded, swallowing hard. "It even shocked Joss. Not him wanting to hurt you or Nikolas." She amended quickly. "But the fact that he brought me into it. Joss has talked about Spencer before and she said that he'd always been a great friend to her, even if he was spoiled and kind of ego centric. And even if he called Cam and Oscar "townies". "
At that, Ava felt a pang of sympathy for the other teen girl. "She must be taking it pretty hard, huh?" She asked sympathetically.
"It is. She's been hiding it, of course. She's wanted to be there for me. But Cam's told me. I just don't get what Spencer thought he was doing or why he had to bring me into it."
The blonde woman blew out a breath, controlling whatever anger she felt at Spencer for the moment. "I don't know either, Trina. I wish that he hadn't. Or that he at least hadn't lied to you. Unfortunately, I can't change what he did. I can help you deal with the fall out, though." She gave a warm smile when the teen looked at her. "If you ever need to talk about this, know that you can come to me, okay?"
"Okay." Trina murmured before she hugged her mentor tightly.
Ava hugged her back, thinking about how she was going to bring this up to Nikolas.
"I can't believe that Trina went back to work!" Cam exclaimed as he and Josslyn laid on the beach chairs in front of the Metrocourt pool.
Josslyn scoffed. "You can't?" She asked. "It's exactly what I'd have done if I were in her shoes. I mean, when I've wanted to not think about things, I've done things like push myself really hard during volleyball practice. Lets not forget when I shoplifted while my mom was in Ferncliff. Trina probably thinks if her mind is busy, she won't think of Spencer's betrayal."
Her boyfriend grumbled as he looked at her. "He better not show his face around us anytime soon. I won't be responsible for what I do."
She nodded in agreement. "Same. You know, I told him yesterday that I'd have understood his anger at Ava and Nikolas. I mean, Nik faked his death for over three years and when Spencer wanted his dad to choose him, he chose the money. But he hurt Trina and that's not something that I can forgive."
Cam frowned a little before he reached out to lace he and Josslyn's hands together. "You know, you told Trina that she didn't have to get rid of the pictures she had of Spencer. You don't have to try and push down any sympathy you feel for him. I don't like him at all, but what his father did is really screwed up. And you aren't saying that what he did to Trina is okay."
Josslyn gave him a grateful smile, blonde hair looking like a golden halo, and her blue eyes bright. "I know. Thank you for saying that, though. But Spencer really doesn't deserve my sympathy. Not after what he-"She was cut off by the sound of someone clearing their throat and a shadow looming over her. She tilted her head back to see that it was Spencer, looking more nervous than she'd ever seen them. She exchanged a glance with Cam before she spoke. "What are you doing here, Spencer?"
Spencer chewed on his lip hard enough that he drew blood. "I wanted to talk to you two. Explain some things. You don't have to forgive me at all. But I just...I need you two to listen."
Cam studied the other boy carefully, taking in the red rimmed dark eyes, the tear streaked cheeks, how his hair stood up on end as if he'd been running his hands through it constantly. Even his clothing didn't seem to be his usual put together style. "Alright. So talk." He demanded, narrowing his eyes as he sat up. He held out an arm, signifying for Josslyn to come sit beside of him which she did, immediately nestling into his side.
The other boy took the chair that Josslyn had just vacated, silence encompassing the three of them for a moment as he tried to get up the nerve to speak. "I started stalking father and Ava months ago. I've just been so...angry for years. First father faked his death and let me mourn him and then money was chosen over me. So I came up with this plan to break he and Ava apart. It would hurt father and then maybe he'd finally realize the mistake he made. I showed back up in Port Charles a couple of days before your graduation parties and I worked some things out. I ended up running into Trina the night of. She pepper sprayed father and I was...intrigued by her. After she had the fake blood spilled upon her, I saw an excuse to talk to her. I was foolish and selfish. I allowed myself to get closer and closer to her despite knowing that I couldn't tell her who I really was. I knew she'd want nothing to do with me if she knew I was after her boss. She talks Ava up constantly. And I knew the jig would be up if I ever went with her to "meet" you two. You both would spill the beans about who I was. It's the same reason that I didn't want her showing you both my pictures. I guess she must've realized something was up in the back of her mind, she just didn't want to believe it. I hate myself for hurting her. And I know that I don't deserve her. But I would do absolutely anything to make it up to her. Anything."
Josslyn refused to look at him. Spencer's confession had drummed up some sympathy in her and she wanted to ignore it, to push it down. She couldn't though. She hated what Spencer had done, how he'd betrayed her best friend. It was still Spencer, though. One of her "dearest friends" as he referred to her. Her eyes finally flickered up to meet Spencer's and she spoke. "What you did was really shitty. I told you the day that I confronted you that I understood your anger at Ava and Nikolas. They'd really screwed up. But you hurt my best friend! You betrayed her trust!" She felt Cam's calming hand on the small of her back and she took in a deep breath, counting to ten in her mind before releasing it. "Look, I can't forgive you for what you did to Trina and I can't say that she'll want to listen to you. But if you really want her forgiveness, you'll have to be honest. Tell Nik and Ava what you've done, talk to Trina and tell her what you told Cam and I, and if she wants nothing to do with you then you'll need to respect that." With that, she slipped her feet into her sandals, grabbed her beach bag, and then tugged Cameron up with her. "Come on, Cam. I'm getting pretty hungry." With one last lingering look at Spencer, she laced her arm through Cam's and they left the pool.
Spencer sat there after they left, thinking over what Josslyn had said. He knew that she was right. That if he wanted Trina back in his life, he'd have to make her realize that he'd changed and realized what he'd done was wrong. He just didn't know how. His grandmother would be so disappointed in him, yet he knew he'd made his bed. Now he had to lie in it.
