Ch 8 : When You're with the Wizard You See Things You Never Dreamed.
The block of energy sizzled as I stepped through. I felt Loki's uneasiness roll off of him in waves and he balanced on the balls of his feet, alert watching the corridor. He raised a finger to his lips to silence any questions as his long black hair fell forward. Then he waved his hands, urging us to follow him. His long strides ate up the ground as he almost ran, then he rounded the curved concrete wall and was gone. We quickened our collective pace with Kang in the lead after Loki. Oddly Strange kept behind me, though I am sure he could easily out pace me. I tried to take it all in. It was such an odd corridor of concrete walls and vintage motivational posters for its time keepers. We rounded the bend to see Loki's familiar form. Abruptly, he put a hand out to stop us, and then opened a massive metal door decorated with hourglasses. His head ducked into the room and then just as quickly he was back, gesturing for us to quickly follow him through the door. Rounded walls, a sunken sitting area, and a large desk framed by hanging blinds welcomed us into the office.
"Ok men, let's do this like we planned," said Kang and he and Strange placed themselves on either side of the door we had just entered. I was to the right of Strange in the corner, out of sight. Loki sat down in the sitting area and poured himself a drink. Time passed, then it dragged, then it ceased to matter as we waited and waited. Loki had long since drained his 4th glass. Empty, it now sat adjacent to a ring upon the wooden side table. Sounds carried to us and we scrambled to the alert.
A muffled male voice said, "Now I am going to need your most recent report on the new branching that happened after the incident with Black Widow. Yah, I'll be in my office if you need me, B-15."
The door cracked open and a gray haired and mustached man walked into the room. His gaze landed on Loki. "Are you waiting for me? Are you a transfer or a new hire? The new hire agent trainer seminar is a few doors down."
"No, I came to see you," said Loki.
The man walked down the stairs, a puzzled look upon his face. "I am usually pretty good with faces. Your face is not familiar."
"Mobius, I wish you did remember me, dear friend."
"Wait, How do I know you? I am sorry I need my memory jogged it would seem."
"It's a rather long and complicated tale," replied Loki. Mobius was nearer to Loki, his hands on his hips. Then there was sudden motion as Mobius' hands came up while he spun and he struck Strange in the stomach then flipped directions to kick Kang in the knee. Then he was struck with a glass to his head and Mobius began to fall. " I am sorry my friend," said Loki as he caught him.
"I thought you said he wasn't the fighting sort," replied Strange as he stood up rubbing his side.
"He isn't, just a lucky shot is my guess," replied Loki as he reclined Mobius onto the couch.
"Well let's get him out of here before anyone comes looking for him," I said, coming to Loki's side.
"Wanda's right," Kang voiced, backing me up.
Kang and Strange lifted him up. " Careful there mate," said Loki as Mobius' head almost collided with the side table.
"Just get that portal thing open," said Kang.
Loki tapped the box he held and the glistening orange rectangular door-like passage appeared. I walked through well aware of the sizzling energizing pins and needles that I would feel as I passed through.
"Where are we?" asked Strange, adding voice to my thoughts.
"The void," said Loki, "The end of time as we know."
"The last place he saw Sylvie before she chucked him back to the TVA," said Kang.
Mobius moaned.
Loki ignored the last remark and he was instantly beside Mobius. "I am truly sorry Mobius. This is Wanda, she can help you."
"Help me? You are crazy, the lot of you. No ransom will be paid. Where am I?"
"The void and you will be fine shortly Mobius. Someone cast a charm or a spell on you to forget your friends, your life. Wanda can help free your mind from this enchantment.
"Wanda, will you free his mind?" ask Loki.
They had set Mobius upon the ground.
I reached my hand to him but he withdrew, a concealed fear emanating from Mobius. "Loki this is wrong. I won't force anyone."
Loki looked defeated as he cast his eyes about. "Right Wanda, of course."
Kang spoke up, "What are we to do? We need to fix this mess."
Mobius shifted from his spot on the ground rising to a standing position as his left hand pushed off the ground. He came closer to Kang and cried, "Wait you're him. I don't understand. Why would you have these people kidnap your Judge. Have I done something wrong?" He asked, his voice having taken on a slight quiver. "We can talk, there is no need for kidnapping."
"These times call for drastic actions. We needed to get you away from the TVA to talk," replied Kang.
"What, why?" asked Mobius.
"Mobius, I am sorry to have hurt you but we need you," said Loki.
The apology seemed to mollify him as he lost the hunted look while stepping to the side so he face us.
"Well I am here now Kang, say what you need to say," said Mobius.
