Later, I was walking to class with my friends. Some girls called out to Jay.
"Why do you torture them?" Carlos asks Jay. "Just pick someone to take to Cotillion already."
"I'm going solo. That way, I can dance with all of them."
"Ah! You're the expert." Carlos then pulls Jay aside. Evie turns to me.
"Hadie, who are you going with to Cotillion?" Evie asks.
"I hope Aziz asks me… and if he doesn't I'm going solo. Like Jay." I say. I see Aziz, my crush, across the hall. "Aziz!" I call. He turns to face me. "I need a study buddy, and I was thinking maybe we could be study buddies?" I ask.
"I have a study buddy already, but I can study with you tonight if you'd like." Aziz says.
"Okay. See you later, 'Ziz." I say.
LATER:
"Hi. I, uh, have something to tell you." Aziz says. I nod slowly. "I, uh, I have a girlfriend and I'm taking her to Cotillion." My hair fire starts.
"I thought you were different, but you're just like everyone else." I pause. "I think I finally have something, and every single time it gets taken away from me."
"Wait, Hadie, I- I didn't mean-" Aziz starts. My hair glows a deeper blue, almost to the point where it'll glow red and orange.
"But you did. You hurt me like almost everyone else. You've made it clear, you never liked me like that. I'm done." I say storming off. I open the library doors, and walk back to my room, making sure to flip my flaming, baby blue hair.
I change my outfit into something better, but way worse. I feel free as I slip on the leather jacket.
"I don't belong here! I never did!" I sob. I gather a few things, and leave the room. I see Mal going out of her dorm with almost my same attire.
"Going back to the Isle?" Mal asks.
"Yeah." I respond, checking for my ember. Got it.
"Me too. Let's go." Mal says. We get on her mo-ped and drive to a cliff where we can see the Isle. Mal stops the bike and gets out her spellbook. She flips a few pages.
"Noble steed, proud and fair, you shall take us anywhere." Mal reads. She puts the spellbook away, and we drive across the water. We drive through the barrier. Then, we continue to drive right through the main part of town. People yell, but we continue. Mal stops in front of a poster of her and Ben, and tears it down. We drive to our old hideout.
We go to a little beauty salon. The name is 'Curl Up and Dye.' I hear music coming from inside. We step inside. Inside, there is a bubbly, fun salon with music and bright colors everywhere. A little VK is sweeping the floor while dancing. She looks up.
"Do you ever just wanna curl up and die?" I ask, jokingly.
"Mal! Hadie! Is Evie back too?" she asks.
"As if." I say, and her shoulders fall.
"I, um, forgot that you guys don't open until midnight." Mal says. The girl nods.
"Place looks good." I say. The girl giggles.
"So what is your deal? Has your grandmother given you any customers yet?" Mal asks.
"Ah, just a witch here and there. Mostly it's a lot of scrubbing and scouring and sweeping. Lots and lots of sweeping."
"Sounds like the old Cinderella treatment, eh?"
"Yeah, she's gone from Wicked Stepmother to Wicked Grandmother."
"That's not really much of a switch." I say, furrowing my eyebrows.
"Hey, Dizzy, you used to do Evie, right?" Mal asks.
"Yeah, I thought of the little braids."
"Have any ideas for us?" Mal asks, surveying my baby blue hair. Dizzy looks at both of us. She walks up to Mal.
"The washed out blonde with purple tips? The best of no worlds. You can't see where your face ends and your hair begins!" Mal sits down. "Oh, what is this, 'Bored to Death Pink'?" Dizzy asks, then walks up to me.
"The bleached baby blue? Not your style. You can't see your personality, only the fact you're bored!" I sit down in the other chair. "Oh no, 'Boring Powder Blue'?" She looks between the two of us. "How far can I go?"
"The works?" I say.
"Well, she means, whatever makes us feel like us, but you know… way worse." Mal says.
"Yay!" Dizzy exclaims. She gets to work dying, cutting and styling our hair. She paints our nails. When she's done, I look at myself in the broken mirror.
"Hey!" I say coming up to Mal who's already at the mirror. "There we are." I have navy blue hair, and my nails are painted the same color. I have long bangs now, and my hair is layered.
"Voila!" Dizzy exclaims.
"Voila." Me and Mal say at the same time. I take out forty dollars, and Mal takes out twenty.
"For me?" Dizzy asks.
"Yeah." Mal says.
"You earned it." I say. We all laugh.
"Fork it over, you runt." a voice with a Scottish accent says. I turn, and my heart beats faster. Dizzy hands the person the money, and they demand all of the money she earned. I look over at Mal. I chew my gum faster because I need a melodramatic moment.
"Still running errands for Uma, or do you actually get to keep what you steal?" Mal asks. The person turns around, slowly.
"Well, well, well. What a nice surprise."
"Hi, Harry." Mal says.
"Hook." I say. He raises his eyebrows at me.
"Still calling me that, are you?" Harry asks, faking a pout.
"Do I have any reason not to?" I ask. Harry rolls his eyes. He turns back to Mal.
"Just wait until Uma hears your back. She's never gonna give you back your old territory." Harry says. He glances at me as he walks closer to Mal, like he was waiting for MY approval.
"Oh, well, that's okay. Because I will be taking it." Harry chuckled, and ran his hook through Mal's hair. A certain rage washed over me, but I pushed it back down. Mal loves Ben, not Harry.
"I could hurt you." Harry states. Mal slaps his hand away. She takes her gum and puts it on the point of Harry's hook.
"Not without her permission, I bet." Mal says. Harry takes the gum from his hook and puts it in his mouth. I try not to gag because he was looking right at me. Harry leaves, and I follow.
"Harry Hook, worst boyfriend I've ever had," I say. Harry side glances at me. "You know, I prefer Auradon boys." I continue. Harry stops walking to give me a look.
"You do? Or are you trying to make me jealous?"
"I really do. You on the other hand…" I trail off. Harry begins walking again.
"I am the most handsome?" Harry asks hopefully.
"Far from it." I say. We continue in silence.
"You never had any rivalry with Uma did you?" Harry asks, startling me.
"No, why?"
"I don't want to see your pretty face get hurt." I raise my eyebrows.
"Still in love with me, huh? Hate to break it to you, but I have a boyfriend." I say confidently as I lie through my teeth.
"What's his name?" I blank, then an idea comes to me.
"If I told you, you'd set up a murder plot, Harry. I know you." I say.
"Ah, my wonderful girlfriend knows me so well." Harry says.
"Ex-girlfriend." I correct. I turn to face him. "Only dated you for the status it gave me." Harry gave me a knowing glance.
"I tried to convince myself that I'm in love with Uma… to make you jealous, but you were never far from my thoughts." Harry says.
"You were." I say. We walk past the entrance to Dad's lair. "I'm gonna visit someone. I'll see you never." I walk back to Dad's lair, I get down to the main part. "I'm ba-ck." I say. Dad takes off his sunglasses.
"Hello Hadie. What are you doing here?"
"Uh, visiting my favorite Dad of course. How's life?"
"Life. Anyways, I need some rest. You can go to your old room if you'd like." Dad says.
"Will do." I say. I walk through my old room. I find nothing really special in particular, except for a necklace chain. I take some glue I found in my old dresser, and glue my ember to the chain. I put the chain around my neck and slipped it under my shirt. I walk out of Dad's lair, and try to find Harry.
"Don't scare you?" I hear Harry's voice say. I lean up against a nearby wall. "But that's my specialty." I roll my eyes.
"Harry." Evie says.
"What did you do with Ben?" Jay asks.
"Oh, uh, we nicked him. Mm-hmm. Yeah. And if you want to see him again, have Mal come to the Chip Shoppe tonight. Alone." Harry pauses. "Uma wants a little visit." He looks at Jay.
"Aw, Jay. Seems like you've lost your touch." Jay goes to punch Harry, who backs away. He turns to Carlos. "Hiey!" he says- er, barks. Harry goes to walk away, but turns back to them. "Any idea where I can find Hadie?"
"Right behind you." I say. He actually walks away. "Funny how I knew you'd be looking for me." I say. Harry turns to face me.
"Come with me."
"One second, lover boy." I turn to Evie, Jay and Carlos. "Whatever is going to happen, know you'll always be in my heart." They gave me quizzical looks, but I ignored that and followed Harry to the Chip Shoppe. Which probably wasn't a good idea, but, hey, since when do I think things through?
A/N: I HATE AZIZ. PERIOD. END OF DISCUSSION. No, seriously. Reread that part and tell me that I did not make him blow her off. Then I know that he knew she liked him so he didn't tell her about his girlfriend. Dumb arse. The study buddy thing? Who'd want to study with him? Hadie 'cause she isn't that bright. I just- can I strangle him? No? Darn it. But after Harry walks into Curl Up and Dye makes me laugh because they obviously still have a spark. Cute. Actually, Harry is still obsessed with her and she constantly thinks about him. Isle relationships. Anyways, edited this chapter. I'm proud of myself. Sorry again to the people who follow this story. Ciao.
