Introduction: Legend of the Celestial Kerai
"Keika, tell me the story again?" begged nine-year-old Haidie. Keika had just turned thirteen, and was getting tired of telling the Legend of the Celestial Kerai. Then again, the Chase kids had originated from that very constellation… so she began to tell the story she knew so well.
Keika shone a circular light from her left hand, projecting it onto the wall, and used her right hand to illustrate the story. Lowering her voice in pitch and volume, the story began...
"Gather near, my friends, and listen to the Legend of the Celestial Kerai." Keika made stardust glitter near the main light and formed it into a constellation of a Vahki.
"Long ago, the original population of four-hearts came to Metru Nui with their creator and queen, Termina Kerai." Keika added color to the stardust, and rearranged it to create the shapes of a young lady, a Vahki, a Toa, and a Matoran. They walked towards the light and disappeared.
"Termina's primary guard was a Bordahk named Vahkya. Vahkya's name meant Spirit of the Chase. Her armor was the color of sapphires and moonlight, her eyes like sunset on the sea." Keika made more stardust, in silver, blue, and pale orange, then formed it into a Vahki. "She was the first leader of the chasers." Other stardust-Vahki appeared, kneeling at Vahkya's feet, then standing up as she led them in a chase into the light.
"But Vahkya was also connected to the people of Earth." Keika made a round shadow by holding up her fist. "She had a special ability - to take on the form of a single-heart woman, mate with a man, and have children painlessly." Keika made the stardust into a baby in a woman's arms. "However, the men would fall into a deep sleep before the children were born, and not remember anything."
"As the years went on," continued Keika, "Vahkya would bring the humanoid children back to Metru Nui, where stable families would raise them." She made the stardust into a happy family. "But one day, she had a child that she could not give up - Aislina." Keika formed the stardust from Vahkya's human form to her Vahki form, all while holding a child. "She promised never to return to Earth. From the start, she sensed that young Aislina had a great destiny."
Keika made the stardust forms into Aislina growing up, with Vahkya by her side. "But on Aislina's wedding day to Aédynu - Vakhya died." She made the stardust into new shapes - Aislina, now a grown humanoid, next to Aédynu, a full-blood Nuurahk, both mourning the fallen chaser.
"Her soul went to the sky, and became the constellation we know as the Celestial Kerai." Keika showed the stardust that made Vahkya's form rushing into the dark part above the light, and creating the constellation. "And during three special nights, each two years apart, celestial energy rushed into their home." Keika showed the stars throwing light into the interior of a house, and turning into three babies. "The three lights became three children. The firstborn, Keikarah. The second, Keyok. And the third, Haidiaque." Keika then showed the three growing up to their current ages - thirteen, eleven, and nine.
"It was foretold that the three children would save the city from certain destruction on a quest. But they would not be able to do it alone..."
