(6) Silverpelt and Sunflight

Chapter 23

Sunflight's pawsteps slowed as he approached the burrow where the three of them slept at night and where Silverpelt was holed up during the day. The wind blew in his ears, but it was merely a whisper against the roaring current in his mind.

Would she let him back in?

He could've sworn he heard a sniffle as he approached her.

Sunflight took a step towards her direction – or he would've, if he hadn't tripped over a small pebble in his way that he'd failed to notice. He lost his footing and tumbled (quite literally) head over heels next to Silverpelt.

Fox-dung.

Silverpelt looked up at him, and Sunflight immediately felt bad for neglecting her so – her face was stained with tears and she looked horrible, tortured by both his and StarClan's decisions.

He opened his mouth to apologize for rolling into her and for being so cold towards her when she started laughing. It was barely a giggle at first but she was soon grinning broadly, almost inviting her to laugh with her.

And so, he did, and it sounded sweeter than honey.

"I love you," Silverpelt said, half sobbing, and touched her nose to his. He licked her cheek, happy to be reunited with the one he'd truly loved.

"I'm sorry," he said, resting his head on hers.

"You're forgiven," said Silverpelt. Then, softer, "I'm sorry too."

"You're forgiven," Sunflight replied. "Always."

A short one :)
