(7) Firestar, Spottedleaf, and The Cave of Stars
Before the events of The Cave of Stars
Firestar came to what felt like an eternity later. He sat up groggily, blinking as his eyes adjusted to his surroundings.
He was in some kind of cave, one that seemed vaguely familiar. He'd been here when he was still an apprentice, perhaps newly a warrior…
"The Moonstone!" he exclaimed, sitting up straighter before groaning as his head spun with the sudden movement.
"Not quite," said a voice out of the darkness, and four starry figures emerged.
"Thunderstar, Riverstar, Windstar, and Shadowstar," said the thick-furred she-cat, pointing a paw to each of the leaders as they were named. "Welcome to the Cave of Stars, where we reside and guide both the living and the dead."
"It's an honor," breathed Firestar, feeling like an apprentice again. He bowed so that his whiskers brushed the floor.
"No," rumbled Thunderstar, "It's an honor to meet you, Firestar. We've watched your beginnings and seen you rise to the top. I'm proud to welcome you to the ranks of StarClan as a warrior of ThunderClan."
"But first," said Windstar, coming forward, "we have something to give you. StarClan is thankful to the work you've done for all the Clans, so we've decided that a 'reward' was appropriate." She padded forward and touched her nose to his forehead. "I give you one life for always protecting, for bringing WindClan home when you were barely an apprentice, and while never letting down your guard, opening your heart to the other Clans' plight."
Shadowstar stepped forward. "I give you a life for seeing the truth. When ShadowClan gave in to the urges of greed, you were able to squash the problem, although we can't say we don't resent you." She laughed and Firestar laughed with her.
"I give you a life for reliability," said Riverstar, walking softly forward. "Even though we fought over such things like Sunning Rocks, RiverClan could always count on ThunderClan and its leader."
"And finally," Thunderstar said, his voice seeming to resonate within Firestar's bones, "I give you a life for loyalty. No cat could question your devotion to your Clan and the life of a Warrior."
Emotion swelled in him, and with it, questions arose.
"Can I give these lives away?" he asked.
"Of course," said Riverstar, amused. "You gave each of your nine lives helping the Clans, so I guessed you'd want to give some more."
"To anyone?" Firestar pressed. "Even to cats who've previously perished in the battle between Light and Dark?"
"Perhaps," said Shadowstar conspiratorially. "I'm guessing you have something in mind?"
"Someone," he corrected, the gears of his brain churning.
Spottedleaf awoke.
The grass was soft beneath her paws and sunlight streamed through the gaps in the leaves of trees high above her. She'd never been to this place, but she'd seen it while she was in StarClan – the new forest.
How long had she been asleep?
The memories came back to her – the cats that had been long dead rising and aiming to murder the living, sacrificing herself for Firestar.
"Firestar," she breathed. It must have been him; that was why she was here. She couldn't explain it, she simply felt it and knew it was true.
Go to RiverClan, said a voice in her head. There's a kit I want you to meet.
She followed it, smiling in the sunshine.
The title was too long to write out so I had to abbreviate it TwT
This is the final "true" extra! The next one is more of an explanation chapter and lists some things I couldn't mention.
