• PROPHECY EXPLAINATIONS •

Prophecy 1 (Chapter 2)

Three marked cats shall answer our call

One loved, one hated, one forgotten by all, / "Loved" is Silverpelt, "Hated" is Sunflight, "Forgotten" is Moonheart

River and Thunder is where they will be / The Clans the cats belong to

The saviors of the Clans that break Shadow's greed.

This one is pretty self-explanatory; I think when I first started this fanfic I was reading Percy Jackson (the second arc) and took a bit of their prophecy for this (I believe theirs was "Seven demigods shall answer our call" or something like that?).

Prophecy 2 (Chapter 16)

Three Clan-born journey past the mountains to

A forest unlike the ones they knew / Raven reveals that the "forest" is the Twoleg city, with the buildings being the "trees"

To a cave only the moon knows the way / The Moonstone only lights up when the Moon is full.

But only if their worth you say / Raven tells Moonheart specifically to acknowledge the others' and to remind them they're valued (this line is a bit weird)

This one was a bit weird in general; I think this chapter was where I picked up the story again after a really long hiatus and it suffered for the first few chapters before I finally figured out the direction I wanted it to go.

• EXTRAS INSPIRATIONS •

1 (Amberfur): In Chapter 4, Silverpelt says that Amberfur had been quite happy to hear of Larkflight's death and mentions some qualities that had led her to adore her father. Throughout the story, we also get to see more of Amberfur's resentment for her daughter. Through this extra, I wanted to give her some personality and some reasons for hating Silverpelt and make it seem less of a hatred, but something of a mutual misunderstanding.

2 (Doestar): I mentioned in the author's notes (the section at the bottom of each chapter in italics) in the epilogue that Moonheart is bi and implied that Doestar was a lesbian; this particular extra was just a fun thing I wanted to write, with no specific purpose behind it. I did have a headcanon that Doestar was among the few who could see Moonheart before she was outed as a prophecy cat, so I wanted to give some lore to that/explain it.

3 (Briarpaw and Doefrost): In Chapter 28, I wrote in some of Doefrost's paranoia and trauma from her mentor's death, and since Briarpaw and Doefrost are implied to be friends in Chapter 9, I wanted to create something that was of a hurt/comfort genre. There's no real purpose, just two friends supporting each other.

4 (The Cave of Stars): In the Epilogue's author's notes, I mentioned that the Cave of Stars members manipulate the prophecy cats' feelings, and in Chapter 25 (Sunflight's POV section) the leaders list some of their tasks as well. I wanted to expand on this and give an example of the job they were doing with this extra.

5 (Raven and Barley): In Chapter 17, Moonheart asks Raven how she sees the good and Raven states that "it comes with experience." I also wanted to elaborate on Raven's father-daughter relationship with Barley, thus this extra was born.

6 (Silverpelt and Sunflight): In Chapter 23, Sunflight's POV shifts to Moonheart's after he decides he will forgive Silverpelt; later, Moonheart observes them walking happily together, reunited at last. This extra was meant to be something of a fill-in-the-blank for that little "timeskip."

7 (Firestar, Spottedleaf, and the Cave of Stars): In the Epilogue's author's notes, I mention that Firestar is given four lives, one for each Clan. He uses one to save Sunflight (Chapter 31) and then one to bring back Spottedleaf. This extra was elaborating on the latter cat's revival.

• OTHER INFO •

Originally, the three cats were supposed to all be named after holy objects in the Warriors universe; Silverpelt was the root of the idea as the home of StarClan (in Twoleg terms, it's the Milky Way). Moonheart was originally supposed to be Moonstone (which I eventually decided against because it would be confusing when they arrived at the Moonstone), then Moonshine, before I finally decided on Moonheart, given to her by Rushwillow. I think in the end, I went for the space-inspired name theme, with Moon already being an uncommon prefix that wasn't supposed to be used.

In final – the three as celestial beings:

Sunflight – Sun

Moonheard – Moon

Moonheart following the feather turned out to be something as a reference to Mothflight finding the Moonstone (I didn't originally plan on it, but it's a nice touch and I like it!)

Whitewhisker was said to be "reincarnated Whitestorm" in Chapter 4, but I think I only thought that because of the name similarities and he's not really a second Whitestorm.

This one was not really an extra; just a chance for me to ramble, explain, and show off all the crazy lore I've woven into this story.

Thank you for embarking on this journey with me; I've learned so much from writing a fanfic this long. TCoS isn't one of my proudest works, but it has earned its place in my heart and on my page.
