He couldn't believe her. She was getting married to the man of her dreams, and yet she had the audacity to march in here and tell him that she wants him? There were no words to describe how furious she made him. No one else in the world could drive him this insane, that was her superpower-
"Running into a burning bus," Jackson's thoughts were interrupted as a familiar cardiothoracic surgeon entered his room, "You've got some balls".
"Just did what had to be done," Jackson grunted, his mind still reeling after his encounter with April.
"You in a lot of pain?" Cristina asked, coming to sit near the bed.
"It's not bad," Jackson replied, shifting so he could face her, "Would've probably been better if April hadn't come in here and gone bat shit crazy," he muttered as an afterthought.
"What?" Cristina asked, looking at him quizzically.
"Nothing," he sighed, there was no use talking to anyone about it, let alone Yang, "How's Mer doing? I heard about her surgery. And the baby?"
"She's okay now," Cristina ran her fingers through her hair, feeling the weight of the day finally settle in, "It was scary, but she's okay. And the baby, Bailey, is cute, looks like her."
"That's good," Jackson replied, "Damn, what a day. Only at Grey Sloan would this happen. Mer has a C-Section in the dark, a bus explodes-"
"Kepner runs towards a burning bus because she thinks you're in it," Cristina finished for him.
Silence. No she didn't. He saw her in Matthew's arms.
"Yeah, the bus exploded and she freaked out. Started running to try and get to you. Paramedic boy had to physically hold her back," Cristina continued.
More silence. Why would she do that, it's so dangerous, he would've killed her himself had she gotten hurt.
"That's insane," Jackson muttered, "She's insane. I know you've been saying it for years, but-"
"Love makes you do crazy things," Cristina cut him off.
"What are you talking about," Jackson questioned, looking everywhere except at his friend, "She literally just got engaged. She's in love with Matthew. She'll be happy with Matthew"
"Honestly, you two are so freaking stupid," Cristina stated, a bored expression on her face.
"What?" Jackson said, incredulously, "That is just-"
"Facts," Cristina continued, staring him right in the eyes, "They're facts. She loves you, you love her, but neither one of you is willing to do anything about it. I swear to god, if I hear either one of you say that the other is happy with someone else, I will rip both your faces off".
"She said that?" Jackson questioned, "She said that I'm happy with someone else?".
Cristina sighed, looking at the ground before making eye contact with him once again. Did this count as breaking Kepner's trust? If she was doing it for her own good?
"When you and the intern first got together," she spoke softly, "She came over, to Mer's, I mean I guess it's Alex's now, but you know, the frat house. Anyway, she was a mess. And we both know why."
Jackson stared at her, hanging on to her every word.
"She kept going on about how you were touching the intern the way you touched her, holding her, kissing her, and she just broke. She crumbled because she realized that she loves you," Cristina continued, "And when I asked her what she's going to do about it, she said that she loved you enough to let you be happy with someone else. Which is a load of bullshit if you ask me, everyone knows you would both be happiest with each other."
This was too much. She loved him. She actually loved him.
"A person is someone who completes you, who you can call at any time, and they'll be there for you, no questions asked. Someone who will rob a bank for you, bury a body, run into flames for you," Cristina looked at him, "April is your person, Jackson, and she loves you."
"I didn't know," Jackson choked out, "I didn't know she felt the same way."
"Yeah, like I said, you're pretty dumb," Cristina muttered, getting out of her chair. That was enough emotional shit for a lifetime. "But now you do know," she said, looking back at him as she reached the door, "So what are you gonna do about it?"
