The T-rex sniffed the air, it's great bulbous head slowly moving from side to side. I dared not move a muscle, for fear of even rustling a leaf. I could not help but wonder if it had heard my cries to the other raptors and had come to investigate in order to pick us off as its next meal. I lay myself down, pressing myself into the muddy ground as much as possible. It took another step forward, the ground once again shaking beneath it, a splash of dirty water batted my in the eye as it did so. It let out a great exhale, its breath brushing downward and scattering some of the fallen leaves. I attempted to suppress my own breathing as much as possible, but no matter how hard I tried, I could still here the wind pass through my nostrils, if only slightly. My heart was beating, faster and faster. It was betraying me. In that moment I was so terrified that I would have held it still if I could.

Suddenly, a raptor call echoed from out in the distance. I darted my eye in the direction it had come from. There was no doubt about it being an answer to my own call, albeit a bit late. Sadly, I was not the only one who took notice. The T-rex swerved, it's grandiose lumbering body positioning itself to face the sound. Two raptors leapt out from the trees, screeching to a halt upon realizing what was in front of them. They were caught directly in the beast's line of sight. I remained motionless, happy to at least have the monster's attention drawn away from me. It let out an ear-splitting roar, before charging head first at the two. I dared not turn my head or rise. After waiting for several minutes, I was confident that the area was clear, and stood up.

Finally, I could resume my quest for a meal, but first I had to get out of this place. There was no telling when the rex might have returned, and I had no desire to be its next victim. I looked around, trying to get my bearings. It did not take long to realize I had wandered into an altogether unfamiliar area of the island. If this place really was T-rex territory, then it made sense; no reason to go walking into the jaws of death. Problem was, I had not paid particular attention to what path I had taken, and now I was unsure as to which way to go in order to get back to the nest. At the very least, I still had my firm sense of direction, and so I did my best to trace the direction which I had come from. After a few minutes of walking, I began to suspect that I really had not known which way to go as much as I thought I had.

I wandered for a little while longer, chomped on a compy, then continued walking. If nothing else then I would eventually reach the edge of the island, and I knew I could work my way back from there if nothing else.

Then, I heard a sudden rustling. I was unsure as to whether it was another raptor. I considered calling out, but it seemed risky. It might have been a t-rex or carnotaurus after all. Then again, in my state they were bound to come across me sooner or later.

"Who's there?" I called out, trying to sound fierce. The rustling stopped, but no one replied. Not even the feint squeak of a compy. If they were hostile, then they would have attacked me by that point. Against my better judgement I leapt forward, preparing to attack whatever it was that had resided nearby. What I stumbled across was a truly bizarre sight, perhaps the most unusual I had ever seen. Standing before me was a group of raptors, though quite different in coloration than myself. They must have been another breed. There were five of them in total. Two adults, a male and female, and three children, all around the same age. The fact that they were standing so close together would have been odd enough, but it was specifically the children which shocked me so much. They were totally without any scars. I had never seen another velociraptor without scars or gashes in my entire life.

The two older ones, who I assumed to be the parents, hissed in an attempt to frighten me. They appeared to be protective of their youth, though I had no idea as to why.

"So, what do we have here?" I cocked my head to the side, a might bit mocking.

"Just leave us alone" the mother bore her fangs, "We want no involvement from your type." The children did their best to appear fierce as well, but came off more pathetic than anything else. I began to slowly circle to the right. These pampered brats needed a good scare if nothing else.

"My sincerest apologies" I said, sarcastic, "I was just out for a bite and seem to have lost track of things. Of course, now that I've found some, I think I'll be quite satisfied." I snapped my jaw in the direction of the children. They instinctively backed up, their mother swiping at my face with her claws.

"Touch them an I'll kill you!" she yelled.

"You wouldn't actually do that, would you?" one of the children asked innocently, "I mean, velociraptors don't eat other velociraptors." For the life of me I could not believe how sheltered these kids were. What good did these two think raising kids would do? It was absolutely hilarious.

"Then you've clearly never met me" I snapped my jaws once more. The children gave a small yelp, still terrified.

"Just get going, the plains are that way" the mother pointed, "You'll be able to find your way around from there."

I nodded and backed away in the direction she had suggested. As I did so, all eyes of the small family stayed locked on my figure. Even once I was out of sight, I could tell they had not stopped glaring in my direction. It was not often that I ran into raptors like that, though I was aware that there were other tribes on the island. Their lifestyle was strange to me, I mean, how could anyone expect to survive while taking care of three children? Not to mention all the complications which came with sharing food and guarding them from other predators, there was no way that way of living would last.

I eventually found my way back to the plains, and from there I was able to work my way back to the nest. It had become quite dark out by the time I arrived back, with almost everyone else having fallen asleep. I picked a spot far away from the others and lay down. I had gone without a proper dinner, but that was something I would have to sort out another time.

A/N: I hope you enjoyed and thanks for reading! I was originally going to have this go on longer and be much more involved, maybe have it go on for three or four chapters, but the truth of the matter is I just ran out of energy. Fortunately, I was committed enough to have an ending of some kind, so even though it's not the best, I hope it's better than nothing.
