When Damian regained consciousness, he found himself inside a dimly lit cell block, which he assumed was located somewhere in the stations' brig. He looked around but there did not appear to be any enforcers or other prisoners.A dreadful silence filled the air. Damian sat down on the cot in his cell. His head ached terribly.
Down the corridor a door opened to reveal an elderly man with a long white beard, dressed in the simple brown monastic robes worn by the lowest of clerks within the Adeptus Terra, the administorum. The man slowly wound his way down the hall way toward Damian's cell, his face and eyes concealed in shadow the entire time, aided by the hood he wore around his face.
When he got to Damian's cell he stopped and motioned for Damian to approach him.
"Damian Romero, Rogue Trader?" He said, sounding somewhat beffudled.
Damian got to his feet and approached the figure. Even up close, the mysterious man's face remained concealed in the shadows.
"You are facing some very serious charges young man. Conspiracy to smuggle xenos artifacts, attempted murder of an Arbiter. I must say this is not conduct becoming of a man of your station. What do you have to say for yourself?"
Damian snorted derisively, "I conquered a world in the Emperor's name from the xenos filth, and saved thousands of souls in the process. Then I come back here and get falsely accused of smuggling. What rubbish. Besides, that Arbiter was attempting a false arrest and I was defending myself."
A feignt grin appeared on the clerk's face. "Ahh yes, your splendid little crusade. Did you know why the Tau were never able to fortify that world properly though?"
Damian shook his head nervously before the clerkk continued.
"Oh I think you do Damian. You heard the stories but chose to ignore them over your desire for personal profit. Yes, the stories are true Damian. The Druchari use that world as a hunting ground, and they had grown very fond of hunting Tau over the years...until you gave them even easier prey that is. And then there is the matter of your arrangement with the Port Master of Day'Yyn..."
Damian fell completely silent, shocked at how much this "clerk" knew. It was in that moment that he realized something. "Wait a minute, that was you that knocked me unconscious in the air lock, wasn't it? Who the hell are you?"
The old man chuckled quietly. "Quite perceptive Damian. I am indeed more than meets the eye. You can call me Anderson. I am officially a clerk of the Administorum, hear to see to it that the affairs of this system are properly put in order. In secret, I am an Inquisitor of the Ordo Xenos. That arbiter you shot at. Her name is Venida and she is also part of my retine"
"But alas, I'm not hear to shame or lecture you. You have a ship and connections to the Tau. That could be useful to me assuming you are willing to cooperate."
Damian smirked. "Doesn't sound like I have much of a choice."
The elderly inquisitor nodded.
"You're foolish at times Damian, but that doesn't make you a fool. Now before we go any further, tell me about this Governor Colby..."
