A/N: Hey y'all, just want to make a quick little note before you read! So this WAS released before - I made this for a Total Drama Writers server event and posted it under Nicole and the Drama Brothers concert, but for the oneshot series, I've changed it up a bit! That's all, enjoy!
November 2015
As Nicole stepped in front of the venue for tonight's Drama Brothers concert, she felt a sense of happiness, and a touch of anxiety. Tonight marked a week since she had first video chatted with Trent, and now she was in Stratford to see him in person for the Drama Brothers concert tour stop. She hardly went to concerts, and here she was, two for the same band in the span of a few weeks.
Since being apart, Nicole and Trent spent as much time as they could texting between shows and classes, and their last video call had only strengthened the bond they had with each other. She had never felt a bigger connection with anyone so quickly, and even if they were only destined to be friends, she was just excited to be speaking with Trent these last few weeks.
She stood next to her friend Tori, who had joined her for the concert. She wasn't going to tell Tori, or anyone, about going to this Drama Brothers concert, let alone how she was speaking with a major pop star, on account of her deal with Noah. She promised Noah she would keep his personal life a secret, which for her meant keeping her family life under wraps while in college. However, Tori, her friend from a college course, came over to her for a project one night and she had a photo up of her and Noah. Tori saw it and noted it was the boy from Total Drama and Ridonculous Race, and while she could have lied and say she just met him, they were twins and she knew it wouldn't work. Tori was excited for her when she told her the truth, which made her feel good about telling Tori about her time speaking with Trent when the time came.
"Thanks for helping me with my makeup." Nicole said as they walked up to the stage door.
"It's no problem." Tori said as she smiled. They approached a bouncer and Nicole gave him their names, and he let them in immediately.
"Woah!" Tori said as she twirled around. "I've never been backstage of a concert before." Nicole looked around, noting it was smaller than the venue in Toronto, but was still nice. The walls backstage had hand-painted photos of iconic bands and artists who had toured there over the years, and their signature was underneath their photos below. She noted a freshly-painted photo of the Drama Brothers at the end of the hall, which had already been signed. She smiled as she looked at Trent's smiling face on the wall, and her nerves began to kick in as she composed a text to Trent.
Trent :)
I'm here at the front!
Almost immediately, as if Trent had been waiting for her to come in, he came in from the dressing room and gave her a hug as he waved her down. He was already wearing his outfit for the night, a white turtleneck long-sleeve shirt and black pants.
"Hey, thanks for coming out! I'm so glad to see you here." Trent as well seemed nervous to be around her again, which she took as a good sign. Nicole smiled as she motioned to Tori.
"This is my friend from school, Tori." Tori smiled as she held her hand out.
"I'm a big fan, thanks for the tickets."
"I'm just glad you and Nicole could come tonight. Thanks for the support." Harold, Justin, and Cody passed by them and Trent stopped them. "Hey, guys. Remember Nicole?"
"Woah! You're the Drama Brothers!" Tori said excitedly. She looked over to Nicole, who was calm as a cucumber. "Sorry, sorry, I'll be cool."
"You came back for me, eh, Noelle?" Justin asked as he came closer. This made Nicole uncomfortable, so Trent took a step in front of her.
"It's Nicole." Trent said to him.
"Oh yeah, you're Noah's sister!" Cody said. "It was really cool seeing you two a few weeks ago."
"Likewise." Nicole said.
"I invited her to see the show tonight. Her university is just a few miles away." Trent mentioned.
"What do you study?" Cody asked.
"Astronomy." Nicole said. "So does Tori. We met in Astrophysics last semester."
"Wicked." Harold said. Trent looked over to the Drama Brothers, almost in a sort-of secret eye contact way.
"I'll see you guys in a few minutes?" He said to them. They took their cue to leave Trent alone and notably got lost. Trent got two lanyards out of his pocket and handed them to Tori and Nicole, who put them around their necks. The lanyards were black and the passes read 'DRAMA BROTHERS VIP - STRATFORD'.
"I'll catch you later, Nicole." Tori said to her. She waved the two of them goodbye, and it was just Nicole and Trent. Their first time alone in a room together.
"I have a few more minutes until soundcheck. Do you want to sit down somewhere?" Trent asked her.
"That'd be great!" Trent began leading Nicole to his dressing room, which he made sure would be empty for just the two of them. The dressing room was pretty spacious and had plush couches, with a TV and a snack spread. Trent took a seat on the couch, and though Nicole at this moment nearly forgot how to sit, she managed to put herself next to him.
"So, it's really good to see you again." He told her.
"It's really good to see you, too." She said as she played with her thumbs.
"Anything interesting happen at school since we last spoke? I know I went a little radio silent today and yesterday. It was a busy few days."
"Not really." Nicole said. "I've just been getting back into the groove of things, and absolutely dreading eating at the dining hall after the comfort of home-cooked meals for a week."
"I can totally relate." Trent began. "Being on the road, there's hardly time to eat a good meal other than at a highway road stop." Nicole felt herself scooting closer to Trent, and the two shared a glance as the room went silent.
"You look really pretty tonight." Nicole looked down at her outfit. Nicole was wearing her hair in a bun, had some light makeup on, and wore white platform sandals with lavender high-rise jeans and a white bell sleeve crop top. She had also painted her nails lavender to match her outfit.
"Oh. Thanks! I've been experimenting with my style lately."
"Well, what you're wearing right now is really nice. You should keep doing it." While Nicole was caught off-guard, lost in what to continue talking about, Trent took her hand into his.
"Is that-" Nicole interrupted.
"Yes, yes. That's fine." Nicole said as she looked up at him. She squeezed his hand and smiled at him. They were comfortable sitting in complete silence, which was a rarity for both of them, and Nicole took a relaxed breath for the first time all night. Their few minutes together went by comfortably, and before they knew it, there was a knock on the door. This startled Nicole and made her let go.
"It's time for soundcheck." The voice said behind the door. The two of them stood up and she began to follow him out.
"I guess that's my cue to go." She said as they exited the dressing room. He pointed behind them.
"To get back to the front, just leave where you came out and circle around to the front of the venue."
"Got it. Good luck tonight, Trent." The two smiled at each other.
"Thanks. Have a good time! I'll see you back here when we're done? You can wait for the venue to clear and head backstage, no need to walk outside again."
"Great! I'll see you."
"Bye." The two waved as they went their separate ways, but before she left, she saw Cody. She remembered Cody and Noah had gone to a restaurant together after the show in Toronto a few weeks ago, which made Nicole worry that maybe Cody would tell Noah he saw Nicole here. She didn't want Noah to know she was here, let alone why she was here, so she tapped Cody on the shoulder as they went opposite ways.
"Hey Cody, can I ask you something?" She said to him.
"What's up?" He asked. She waited until Trent was far away, then spoke up.
"Have you been talking to Noah at all since you last saw him?"
"A little bit, on and off." He said to her.
"Please don't tell Noah you saw me here tonight."
"Why?" He asked.
"I'm not ready to tell Noah right now about… whatever Trent and I are right now." She said to him, not getting into anything personal between the two of them. "I'll of course tell him if it becomes serious enough, but please don't mention anything to him about seeing me here tonight if you do happen to talk to him."
"Don't worry Nicole, your secret is safe with me." He smiled as he began to walk away to catch up with Trent with the rest of the band. She followed the rest of Trent's instructions and went outside, meeting back up with Tori in line.
"You were over there for quite awhile." Tori said as she smirked.
"That I was." She blushed.
The concert had ended, and after the crowd had cleared, Nicole walked backstage just as Trent instructed her to do. The venue was clear and the workers were cleaning for the night. Nicole was hardly the type to go to a concert. She had been to one concert in 2013 as a graduation gift, Taylor Swift at the Rogers Centre, but other than that, this was a new environment for her. There were lots of screaming girls, and to many of them, getting as close to the stage as humanely possible had been like life-or-death. She smiled as Trent walked towards her.
"Hey! Great show!" Nicole told him.
"Thanks! I think I sang better knowing there was a familiar face on the floor." She blushed and looked down to hide her smile. "Where's your friend?"
"She had to go." Nicole lied. Tori had agreed to go right after the concert so the two could have some alone time, but she didn't need to tell Trent.
"Oh, okay. Well listen, I would love to spend some more time with you since you came all this way. Would you like to go somewhere a little more private?" She nodded and he held out his hand for her, which she took. They went up a few flights of stairs until they arrived on top of the venue roof. It was just them and the night sky lit up by the buildings surrounding them. Though it was freezing outside, neither could feel it in their moment of pure bliss. Their hips were touching, which was an indication of how close the two were standing.
"Wow. What an incredible view." Nicole said.
"I thought you would like it." They leaned on the rail as the two looked out to the stars.
"Not only do I love looking at the stars, but I also love seeing the story the stars tell us." Nicole says as she turns to him. "Have you heard the story of Canis Major?" Trent nodded his head no, and she began pointing to the sky, leaning her body closer to him.
"Canis Major means 'greater dog' in Latin. If you squint, you can see it there. Well, what's left of it, anyway." She pointed to a dog-shaped constellation in the sky.
"Wow."
"That's Sirius." She said. "The name of the little dog in Canis Major. It's actually one of the closest stars to us, at eight point three light-years." She began to chuckle as she put her arm down to her hip and looked back at Trent. "I'm sorry, I'm being a nerd."
"No, you're not. It's cute." Trent tensed up. "Not that you can't be cute and a nerd." Trent began to face her, and took her hand in his once more.
"These last two weeks have gone by so quickly. I've never felt a connection so suddenly with anyone else." He paused. "Do you feel the same way?"
"I do." She said. "We also have a very high compatibility rate when comparing star signs."
"Your astrology talks are so cute." Trent began leaning into her more, and the two grew silent as he crashed his lips into hers. Their chests pressed onto each other, and she kept kissing him as their hands clasped together next to each other's hips. As their lips let go, she opened her eyes to see his smile was as wide as hers.
"I hope that wasn't too forward." Trent said nervously.
"No, it was amazing." She said to him. "But can I confide something in you?"
"Of course."
"Do you promise not to laugh?" She asked. He held out his pinky.
"I promise." He wrapped his pinky around hers, and she wrapped hers around his, locking in their pinky promise.
"That was my first kiss." Nicole whispered as their pinkies let go. Trent paused and gave a longing smile to her.
"Really? I was your first kiss?" He asked.
"I wasn't exactly popular in school." Nicole shrugged.
"Do you want to go for your second kiss?" She nodded as he pulled her in again for a kiss, this time putting his hands around her waist. Nicole wrapped her arms around his waist, and as they stopped kissing, she looked up at him again, smiling as the two didn't let go. "What does this mean for us?" Nicole tensed up and let go of him.
"I don't know. I'm new to this dating thing, and firsts are still hard for me." She said truthfully.
"Firsts are hard for me, too." Trent agreed.
"Can we move at our own pace?"
"Of course." Trent said, sounding relieved. The two of them held hands once again and stared into one another's eyes.
"I just want to enjoy my time with you. I don't want to put a label on us yet." Nicole said. Trent smiled at her, nodding in agreement.
"After everything I went through, that's just what I need." He told her. "Can we spend more time together tonight?"
"There's a 24-hour diner on my campus?" Nicole suggested. "Maybe there's a hat I could give you in my dorm so you don't get recognized."
"That sounds great. I'm starving." The two of them began walking downstairs hand-in-hand, dreaming of the possibilities that lie ahead of them.
