After the first day in the village, Fishlegs asked his parents if Maximus can stay in his room this night, seeing as he doesn't have a hut yet. They accepted and the boys slept the night away in Fish's room.
The next day, they woke up and went to the great hall for breakfast. They took their food and went to a little table in a corner of the hall. They started eating and speaking more about dragons and what they are doing today.
Maximus turned around when the door to the hall opened and he smiled when Hiccup came in and went to take some food.
When he saw that Hiccup was alone in a dark corner, he signaled this to Fishlegs, nodded at him and the boys took their food and went to his table.
"Hey there! Why are you standing here all alone? You can stay with us, we don't bite." Asked Maximus.
Hiccup looked up, smiled, and made a sign of sit down. "I just got used to being alone. Being the screw-up of the village doesn't bring friends."
Maximus told him he doesn't care and that they can be friends. Hiccup and Fishlegs accepted.
Then, Snotlout appeared, with the twins in tow.
"What are you doing here with Useless?" Asked the brunette. Maximus just looked at him and answered.
"Eating breakfast, why? Is it that hard to use both eyes and brain at the same time?" Asked Maximus with a smirk on his face. Hiccup and Fishlegs burst out laughing while the twins were chuckling and Snotlout went red in the face from anger.
"Now listen here. I am the best warrior on the island and future chief. I deserve respect, and if you disrespect me, you will regret it." Answered Snotlout.
The rest of the village turned to look and watched the scene. Not even 2 days in, and the 'second Hiccup' already makes problems.
Maximus just smirks more and replies. "I am truly sorry for disrespecting the future chief. Could you forgive me Hiccup, for angering this stupid monkey?"
The 2 teens at the table just laughed more with tears and Maximus barely had time to turn around to Snotlout to see his fist incoming. He got punched hard enough to get thrown off the chair and the twins took his arms and made him look at Snotlout.
"That is what you deserve. But it seems that you didn't have enough. Let me solve the problem."
Before he could hit him again, Fishlegs took hold of his arm and pushed him away, and then helped Hiccup take the twins off the other twin. Snotlout came up and was about to hit Fishlegs, but Maximus came up and kicked Snotlout in the stomach, making the boy's eyes to bulge out and then he proceeded to fall to the ground in pain.
"Let that be a lesson for you Snot, you can't make people do what you want. You were lucky I was not prepared, otherwise I wouldn't have needed help to bring all 3 of you to the knees."
After this, the 3 teens cheered and left the hall to start doing their tasks. Maximus got a list of what he has to do the day before and after he finishes, he can go to an empty house and make it his.
Maximus had a few coins, enough to get himself some food and water to bring home, and he also had some furs and clothes from his old home.
After doind his task and some other work for the villagers, he got enough coins to get the weapons from the blacksmith. Once he got there he greeted Gobber and Hiccup.
"Gobber, Hiccup, so good to see you. It is so boring here. I only have to do some boring tasks and I would have to get a job around here. Anyway, I wanted to ask about the axes, do you think I could get them anytime soon?"
Gobber smiled at him and responded.
"Aye lad. The weapons are being forged right now. In less than an 'our you will get 'em. I am really curious of your opinion. Also I like what you 3 did to Snotlout. He is too arrogant for his own good."
Maximus then smiled and said it was his pleasure. At that moment, a blonde girl came up at the forge and asked if they can sharpen her axe. Hiccup started blushing and stammering for a response and then he nodded and went to work. Maximus smiled knowingly, Hiccup had a crush on the girl.
He turned to her and asked with a smile. "And what is your name?"
The girl turned around and after looking at him for a few seconds, she responded. "I am the Astrid Hofferson. I will be the best shieldmaiden on Berk."
Maximus just nodded and replied. "Well, seeing as there aren't many girls aroud here fighting for that title, it's not really a competition. It's just waiting." He said that with a straight face.
Astrid frowned and said. "I didn't train so many years just for you to say that I will only get that title just for being around. I will win dragon training and you will see I am the best shieldmaiden."
Maximus just snorted and looked away when someone yelling caught his attention. "He is a nuisance. He is cursed. We must get rid of him, ship him off before the curse gets to all of us." Shouted an old man with a big cane in his hand and a sheep walking after him.
Maximus turned to the other 3 persons there that looked displeased and asked. "And who is the crazed man yelling to the clouds?"
Hiccup sighed and responded. "That is Mildew, one of the elders and he hates me for being 'useless' and dangerous for the village."
Maximus was tired of stupid people so he took the axes from Gobber, paid, and then he left for his house to put the weapons there and then go to the great hall for dinner.
He chose to stay with the 2 boys again and they started talking again about their day. Then Snotlout appeared...again. The same things happened, Maximus making fun of the boy, Hiccup and Fishlegs adding their own things, Snotlout getting angry and then shouting at them that he is superior and then the fight. But this time Maximus was up and ready for the fist to come towards him and he dodged.
The twins jumped on him again, but Maximus just threw them off. And then there was a ripping sound. Snotlout and Tuffnut thought that the village should see the new scrawny teen.
Too bad that it didn't happen as they were expecting it to. Maximus wasn't as scrawny as the village thought. He had muscles on his arms, he had pecs and abs! For someone his age, he looked rather good. The girls in the village looked at his muscles and some blushed at the sight. Hiccup, Fishlegs, Snotlout and the twins looked bewildered that he had so much muscle and Ruffnut then blushed and said 'Me likey!'
Maximus on the other hand was angry. That tunic was a gift from his father, Oswald, on his last birthday on Berserk. It was a little short, for it was for 13 years old him and he didn't go home for almost 2 years after their fight 5 months after his birthday. He lived alone on an small island with the things he had on the raft and that tunic was the most precious thing he had. So of course when they ripped it, they made him so angry that his fists balled up and he punched Tuffnut so hard, he sprawled the male twin on the floor, unconscious.
"This tunic is the last thing i got from my father on my birthday nearly 2 years ago! Now you destroyed it, so I will make you regret it."
The villagers felt bad for the boy. The last thing he had from his father was ruined. They didn't feel bad for Tuffnut or Snotlout. They deserve what will happen to them.
Snotlout took that as a challenge and went in position for a fight. He thought he was going to win easily, that because he was bulkier he was going to beat the other teen. What stupidity. Not even 2 minutes after the fight began and he was already on the ground, holding his stomach and trying to stand up. Next to him was Tuffnut, who regained consciousness, only to lose it again when he tried to fight. He went out from just a punch to the face.
After the fight was over and Maximus won, he said.
"Never think you have the advantage. Always know you can lose and always have a plan for all situations. Don't just go into battle with muscles. Use the brain you have. Too bad yours is probably rotten from stupidity and arrogance. And one more thing. Let my friends alone. Don't touch Hiccup or Fishlegs unless you want to swim with the Scauldrons."
With that, Maximus, Fishlegs and Hiccup left the hall and went home to get some sleep. It was a long day. The villagers then learned that Maximus isn't just another Hiccup. If he can fight Snotlout, maybe he can win dragon training. Astrid learned the same thing, and swore that she won't let Maximus win the honor to kill the Monstrous Nightmare.
