Guinan was furious.
She did not mind people celebrating, nor making a mess of her bar in the progress. She just had seen enough fights, from good old fashioned bar brawls to ferocious beatings, occasionally as an ambush for some big-mouthed officer by less acknowledged fellow students. One tried and tested way to deal with such happenings was: wait until it's over, and only call security when they're about to kill one of them. Even if not for him, but no bartender in any century welcomed a thorough police investigation in their area of expertise. So Guinan found herself angry through and through when she discovered that there had been a full-scale fighting among the guests, with only the gruesome leftovers waiting for her, and no information from security beforehand.
The bartender put the original Roumlan Ale, the Jamedian seawater, Pollock's Cube's and some other interstellar specialties back into safe storage and invested two hours into a rough cleanup. She then noticed that her feeling of anger had turned into a much more vague, and utterly serious feeling. She recognized that feeling. In wild, inner refusal of jumping to conclusions, she reached for the intercom device on her bar. "Guinan to security."
"Worf here."
"Lieutenant", she managed to pull off an attitude of inquiring irritation, "How come that I am not informed about random violence in my bar?"
"I was informed that Ten Forward was empty by now", the Klingon barked, "Are you reporting an emergency?"
"No, Worf, I am not, and your information is correct, I am the only one here", Guinan tried to calm him down, "But I can see that there must have been some serious brawl during the party."
"You are the first one mentioning such outbursts", Worf stated.
"I can see the leftovers and believe me, a bloody nose leaves the same traces in every quadrant."
"There have been no reports of any injury during the celebration or afterwards."
"Come down and see for yourself", Guinan cut across him and closed the channel.
The Klingon would not have been chief of security if he hesitated to inquire such incidents, and showed up with an unfamiliar officer within minutes, only to be joined by Crusher seconds later.
Guinan led them to what she figured out to be the centre of the fight.
"It's blood, all right", Crusher confirmed the bartenders suspicion. They had formed a half-round circle around the leftovers: Two broken chairs, considerable dents in the table, glass spread across those and shimmering, dark red pools of, as Crusher had stated, blood indeed.
"However, more than one individual got hurt here", she laid out. "According to those readings, Ensigns Soto and Ja'Fen were hit hard enough to bleed from their nose and mouth, and Brown lost some hairs from the eyebrow in it, so I guess he's wearing a monocle by now."
She kept her gaze fixed on the tricorder.
"Anything else, Doctor?"
"I don't – that's odd", she answered, with a stern wrinkle above her nose, "Seems like Ensign Lewan got it pretty badly, there's evidence of saliva and gingival tissue in here."
"He was brought to sickbay in a drunk state", Word reminded her.
"Yes, he was", Crusher replied in a distant voice, "I wasn't in when he came, do you know who brought him?"
"Ensign Zhan called for a medical team", Guinan added.
"Is it possible that he did not pass out from the – drink", Crusher caught herself just in time to omit 'Ale', "But from an attack?"
"It is possible, but I seriously doubt it, Doctor", the bartender answered.
"Ensign Zhan has no history of outbursts, or a temper", Worf confirmed her impression. "What is Ensigns Lewan state right now, Doctor?"
"Initial scans showed nothing other than an intoxication, so I treated him for that, and discharged him", Crusher replied, "If he had been hit, especially like this-", the physician waved to the pool of blood, "I definitely would have noticed."
"He wasn't hurt?", Guinan threw in, astonished.
"No, like I said, not at all. Just drunk up until his hairline."
Unnoticed by any of the others, Guinan's vague feeling thickened considerably.
"We should take a look at the others who seem to have been – involved here", Worf voiced.
"Yes, Lieutenant", Crusher agreed. "And I'll have this tricorder checked later, perhaps it's malfunctioning. Just to be sure."
"Computer, list current position of Ensign Soto, Brown and Ja'Fen", Word demanded.
"Ensign Soto is in his quarters, Deck twenty-three, Section B. Ensign Brown is at the arboretum. Ensign Ja'Fen is currently using holodeck Two."
"First the arboretum, then holodeck, and Soto at least?"
"Agreed."
