CHAPTER 2:
The time the two blondes looked at the dead man's tape recorder felt like it could've been hours, days even. But eventually, Miles looked up and stared Helga down, "Try and reach it."
Helga snorted, "You're kidding, right?" she chuckled, pointing at the corpse, "Look how far he is from the both of us! We'll never get it!"
Sighing, Miles looked down in disappointment, "Couldn't you atleast TRY to be more positive about the situation?"
"Try? TRY?! I'm stuck in a stinky old bathroom and you want me to try to be more positive about the situation?! Are you kidding?"
"Well, no-"
"SHUT UP! Criminy, just accept that it's hopeless!" Helga shouted, before sitting down. She sighed as she looked at the dead body, "It's my first time actually seeing a dead body in person. It's so different from the movies. They never move."
Miles glared at her, getting impatient with the bratty child, "Focus, Helga! We need to find a way to get out of here. And I'm guessing THAT tape recorder might have something to do with it. Come on, Helga."
Helga glared back for a moment, before finally sighing in defeat, "Ugh, FINE." she groaned, before attempting to reach the tape recorder. It was a failed attempt.
She sighed, "Great! NOW what?" she shouted, slamming her fist on the ground in defeat.
Miles, the optimist, remained confident, "Try using your shirt!"
"Huh?"
"Your shirt!" he repeated, pointing at the pink jacket Helga was wearing, "Use that and tie the sleeve to the drain!"
Helga stared at him as if he were a lunatic before finally piecing the puzzle together. She did as he told. She grabbed her soaken jacket and took it off, revealing a white tank top and pink shorts. She tied the jacket with the drain and yanked it at the tape recorder.
It failed.
She sighed, but Miles was still optimistic, "Go on, try it again!"
She did, multiple times, before finally hitting home run. Miles was overjoyed. Helga grabbed the tape recorder and put in her tape first.
"Rise and shine, Helga. You're probably wondering where you are. I'll tell you where you might be. You might be in the room you die in. Up until now you simply sat in the shadows watching others live out their lives. But what do voyeurs see when they look into the mirror? Now, I see you as a strange mix of someone angry, yet apathetic. But mostly just pathetic. So are you going to watch yourself die today, Helga, or do something about it?"
The voice was altered. It was a dark, booming voice, but not natural. Either way, Helga was confused, yet terrified, "I don't get it."
Miles frowned at her, also disturbed by what the man in the tape said, and nodded, "Throw me the player."
Helga looked down at the tape recorder and shook her head, "No!" she said, making Miles frown even more, "It could break if I do that! You throw me your tape!"
Miles sighed and threw it, making Helga pick it up and place it in the recorder.
"Mr. Shortman, this is your wake-up call. Every day of your working life you have abandoned your son, risking the idea that you are going to die soon. Now, you will be the cause of death. Your aim in this game is to kill Helga. You have until six on the clock to do it. There's a man in the room with you. When there's that much poison in your blood, the only thing left to do - is shoot yourself. There are ways to win this hidden all around you. Just remember, X marks the spot for the treasure. If you do not kill Helga by six, then Stella and Arnold will die, Mr. Shortman... and I'll leave you in this room to ROT.
Let the game begin."
