Disclaimer: Crimson Peak is Guillermo Del Toro's property, Supernatural belongs to Eric Kripke, The Lodgers to Brian O'Malley. Emma, Constance and I are self-inserts. The old lady from Camden Market belongs to Chibimelodee.
Summary: Ghosts are real and everything happens for a reason. Is this why Marina and her friends find themselves trapped in Allerdale Hall a few days away from Christmas?
Author's note: This story was written for me by « Emma » and « Constance » from Chibimelodee as an Advent Calendar two years ago. Please note that all three of us are french and while we do know our way around English, we might still make some mistakes. Feel free to let us know! As the three girls are french and start to speak from this chapter, I'll put the translations of their sentences right next to them so you know what they say.
Second author's notes : These bonus scenes were written by me after discovering the full story my friends gifted me.
At the Candlelight
Bonus : Birthday Girl
Marina smiled as she watched Constance waltzing with her husband. Her husband... It felt so weird! Just a few days ago, they were all just tourists and now, they were all in a relationship due to the zing, Emma could walk again, Constance was now a lady and pregnant! She briefly wondered if she was dreaming. It all seemed too perfect: a friend with a rare disease cured, a friend who escaped Death after he or she (she didn't want to assume Death's gender) embraced her and herself, linked to a literal angel. She pinched herself discreetly, it hurt.
"Okay, I'm definitely not dreaming!" She thought as she watched Sean kindly offering Rowena to dance as it wasn't polite, a woman never asked to dance during a wedding.
"Your man is quite the weird thing, isn't he?" Crowley said as he walked to her. "I just wanted to wish the Christmas baby a happy birthday. Though it's Christmas Eve, you get my point."
"Thank you, Your Majesty." Marina replied with a smile
Dean and Sam turned their heads to her, looking at her, shock and surprise painted all over their faces. Crowley too, though it quickly vanished, replaced by a cocky grin.
"Your Majesty?!" Dean exclaimed
"Yes." She said as if it was obvious
"Why do you call him that?" Sam inquired
"Because Mister Crowley here is the king of Hell." She explained. "It's natural I tell him "Your Majesty"! I called Thomas "Sir" until he told me I could use his name."
"I like her!" The demon smirked.
"I'd rather be deaf than hearing such crap!" Dean whispered
Bobby shrugged.
"Can't blame a lass for being polite. Especially to a demon. It can save her ass. Smart move."
"I agree with Bobby." Castiel finally spoke up. "I have a question, though."
He looked at her directly in the eyes, it was unsettling.
"Why were you three here?"
"The prophecy, you said so, featherhead!" Crowley joked
"I want to know how Fate brought them here. Three French girls lost in England? That was unlikely."
Marina smiled, though it seemed tainted by a hint of sadness.
"We were on our way to Cumberland." She started. "Constance and Emma surprised me for my birthday with tickets for a play in which my favourite actor performs."
"Nice!" Sam noted
"They had even managed to arrange a thirty minutes meeting between him and me after the play."
Dean looked at his girl, impressed.
"But while I was driving, my car seemed to have issues. First, the CD player stopped. Then, the battery apparently died as we were driving by Allerdale. Which is odd, considering my dad made sure everything was okay before we left."
"That small, uninspired black Kia is yours?!" Dean exclaimed
"My small uninspired black Kia, as you call it, has a truck big enough for Emma's wheelchair to be stored in, allowing her to go outside and have fun with Constance and me." She bitterly snapped.
The hunter's face went white, he raised his hands and quickly apologized.
"Seriously, Dean?" His brother scolded him. "You're so defensive of Baby! And here you go, mocking your girl's best friend's car. Not a good move!"
Bobby rolled his eyes.
"So, what happened next?" He asked, so Castiel would have the rest of the story.
"Well, it was snowing so hard and we saw a light inside, so we just wanted to take shelter. Shortly after, Constance told us she saw a ghost. The rest is history."
"If it's your birthday, we should do something!" Thomas said, Constance at his arm.
"I don't need anything!" The young woman replied. "Emma is healthy again and Constance freaking got resurrected! I don't need anything else!"
"So sweet it gets sickening, I understand why this Irish toddler here fell for you." Rowena intervened
"The only reason I'm not insulting you again is that you helped us in saving Constance's life, Your Grace."
Dean couldn't help laughing as Crowley's eyes widened.
"How did you call her?!"
"I called her Your Grace, Your Majesty." Marina replied. "She is your mother, you're a king, that makes her either a dowager queen or the king's mother, so..."
"Kings in Hell are elected." Castiel told her
"The king's mother then. Still gets her "Her Grace"."
Rowena's grin was huge.
"For once, you were right, Fergus! I like her as well! We could make someone out of this small creature yet. Snappy, proud, knows her place... I'd be delighted to make you my apprentice."
Sean paled.
"Relax, I was joking!" She told him "Though I'd love to see an even more impossible love story between a witch and an angel."
"There's Charmed for that." He told her
She raised an eyebrow.
"Piper and Leo?" He tried
"I give you that."
"So, you missed the play." Sam said
"Yes, I did. For the greater good, so it's okay." Marina told him, though her smile seemed fake to him. "My only regret is that I never got the chance to warn Eugene I couldn't come due to the weather. He's a man I admire, not only because of his work but also because of his actions. I don't want him to believe I stood him up when he was kind enough to agree to meet a silly fangirl, while he could have shopped and prepared for his own Christmas with his family. Our phones didn't work. I guess the walls here are so thick the phones' network can't reach."
Emma hugged her.
"We'll make him see you again! He was so nice when we Pmed him on Twitter, I'm sure he'll understand."
They heard the sound of wings flapping. Castiel and Sean were gone.
"Too sad for their taste, I guess." Rowena hissed
"Or maybe they wanted to take a piss in the woods." Bobby replied
"Like Brynden Tully?" Marina asked
"Oh my God, a Game of Thrones fan!" Dean smiled. "Which house?"
"Lannister."
He seemed disappointed.
"Not Stark?"
"The only Stark I love is Sansa. Ned was okay, I can't stand Cat, Robb was nice enough, Arya is overrated with her plot armour, Bran is boring and they didn't do anything with Rickon."
"Season 8?"
"Shitty."
"You win this round."
"The first seasons were nice, it went downhill just like Once Upon A Time. The books are better anyway."
He sighed.
"She's one of those... Sam, you're sure you're not the Sam she presented as her brother? Dad never travelled to France, right?"
"No offence, but I'm the older sister, so unless Sam here is under twenty-seven..."
She suddenly felt a bit of air near her ears and she almost jumped when Sean put his hand on her shoulder.
"Yeah, you'll get used to it." Dean joked
Castiel was facing her.
"Your play got annulled due to the weather. I met your actor. He is relieved to know you are okay, lets you know both the tickets and the meeting are still good and running. He also wishes you a happy birthday."
The angel seemed puzzled when he saw her clearly shocked, her face going through a range of emotions, her lips trembling. Did he do something wrong?
"I..." She stuttered. "I really want to hug right now... But I don't know if you'd be okay with it..."
"Just go for it!" Dean laughed as he pushed her into Castiel's arms
He managed to get her before she could harm herself.
"Thank you so much!" She whispered in his ear
"Careful there, Lucky Charms!" The older Winchester said. "Castiel's gonna steal your girl!"
"But Marina isn't an object, she can't be stolen." Sean replied, confused
"Can you just tell me one thing?" Castiel inquired. "Did you ever notice that your Eugene Simon is basically Sean's twin?"
She gently broke the embrace and he could see her brain working.
"Dear Lord... You're right... I never even thought about it! When I saw Sean for the first time, I was just too charmed to even notice!"
"You have an explanation for that, Cas?" Sam wondered
"Easy enough. This man certainly descends from Sean's sister when he was a human being. Kay Nally had children. We can assume Eugene Simon descends from her."
"He has Irish and Scottish roots, he said so himself." Marina added. "But, did he see Sean? He must have been surprised!"
"He didn't. Sean didn't go to Cumberland."
"I couldn't let you celebrate your birthday without a birthday cake!" Sean proudly said as he revealed a huge box.
Inside of it, a large pie filled with raspberry jam and slightly smelling like gingerbread. She noticed the writings of the box.
"You went all the way to Kaysersberg just to get me a Linzer Torte?!"
"Where's Kaysesberg?" Thomas whispered
"It's a city in Alsace, an eastern region of France, near the German border..."
"Your favourite cake from the bakery you love so much there!" The angel smile
"Aww, that's so romantic!" Rowena commented, seeming genuine for once
"That looks good! I should get into french cuisine!" Dean said, eying the pie
"Get ready to eat horses, snails and frog legs!" Emma smirked
Seeing his horrified expression, she burst out laughing.
"Constance and I know how to make original and yummy burgers." She eased him
"I confirm that!" Marina nodded
Dean seemed relieved but he swore he'd definitely get more information on his girl, her sister and her best friend for sure.
French girls were cute but weird.
The End
