I open my eyes to find myself standing on the edge of a cliff. Rubble is everywhere. It looks like this was a city once.

"K!" Nix screamed. He had slipped off the ledge and was plummeting towards the ground.

Time seems to freeze and I stop thinking. I fly off the side of the cliff, grab Nix and fly back to solid ground.

"Wow!" the kid exclaims. "That was awesome! Well, not the falling part, but how you flew to save me. How come you didn't say you could fly like that?"

"I didn't know," I reply simply. "Any idea where we are? Or how we got here?"

"I geuss I was focusing too hard on how hungry I am. Mom says random teleportation is to be expected at my age."

"I don't remember very much, but I do remeber that random teleportation is not normal." For some reason, as we discuss teleportation, the words "red" and "fast" come to my mind.

"Mom says I'm special."

"Sorry to break it to you, kid, but all parents say their kids are special."

"Did yours?"

"Probably. Let's just go look for food."

In the crumbling buildings, we are able to salvage several canned and non-perishable foods. I open the cans with a pocket knife I found in my jacket.

"Brown mush," Nix notes apprehensively, staring at the cans we had found.

"Refried beans," I reply, reading the labels. They are in the same language as the rectangle's display and the writing on the photo I had given the kid. "I think I've eaten them before. You might like it."

As I bite into my refried beans, I get a memory of a little girl with long black hair, a man wearing glasses and a tie, and a dark haired woman.

"What's this brown mush?" the girl - me, I think - asked.

"It's refried beans," the woman replied.

"Whatever it's called, we didn't have it on Krypton," I remarked.

"Just taste it, Katrina," the man said. "You might like it."

I took a cautious bite, and my face lit up.

"It's good, isn't it?" the woman asked.

I nodded as I rapidly ate the rest of my beans.

"K?" Nix questions. "You okay?"

"Yeah," I reply. "Guess I just zoned out for a moment."

So, my name is Katrina. It doesn't sound right, though.
