Slate loves Gray Wing. He's kind, gentle, caring, and a good father. But, the dark gray hair woman had seen the sadness in Gray Wing that makes her long for him. She has seen how Owl Eyes, Peddle Heart, Sparrow Fur, and Thunder love Gray Wing. She knows that he's a gentle soul, that will protect everyone and anyone that needed help.
She wanted to soften the burden that Gray Wing suffers. She tries to help relieve the tension from him during the night, but he doesn't seem to want to be seen as weak. Slate had to pin Gray Wing down for him to listen to her.
"You are not weak! You are strong, brave, loving, and humble human being. I love you! You are caring, sensitive, and wise. Wind Runner's trying to keep you protected from Clear Sky. NO! Clear Sky's not healthy for you. You need to focus on yourself and this group." Slate hisses to her to-be mate. Gray Wing's eyes are wide with surprise, and he knew that she is right.
After that, Gray Wing stayed close to the woman and, during gatherings, greets Clear Sky. Clear Sky and Wind Runner would always fight to let Gray Wing do as he pleases. Slate knows that Tall Shadow, River Ripple, and Thunder would protect the man from Clear Sky. Gray Wing always stops it with a firm and stern voice.
"That's enough! I can make my own decisions. I know you are trying to protect me, Wind Runner, but Clear Sky is my brother. I will always try to help him. We are to help each other out, even if you don't like them. We have to help each other out."
"The group comes first." Wind Runner argues, and Gray Wing interrupts her.
"The Clans will always come first, but if you want a relationship, then you have to try to help each other if you can." Wind Runner snarled at Clear Sky, and Slate agrees with her leader. However, she also understands where Gray Wing is coming from. When they are alone, Slate pins him and kisses the man.
"I love you, Gray Wing. I will always protect you." She tells the man.
