Partnerships
Naruto announced to his teammates one morning in their dorm. "We are to take a joint mission with Team RWBY to investigate an archeological site where we are to retrieve some artifacts from it."
Suddenly Ruby and her teammates arrived at their dorm. Ruby said. "Naruto, my teammates and I are ready."
Naruto nodded. "Alright, give us a few minutes to grab our things then we're leaving within the hour.."
After said minutes, Team 7 retrieved their weapons. Ruby could see that Hinata is using a bolt-action sniper rifle, Sasuke his own personal sword, Sakura her gauntlets. But the most surprising was that Naruto brought two swords with scabbards holding them behind his back.
Naruto held out a hand and said. "I know what you're going to say: 'Naruto, why do you have two swords on your back?' One's steel and the other's silver. One's for humans and the other's for Grimm."
Ruby nodded at the explanation. Naruto held out a hand. "Let's work together as joint team." Ruby shook it.
Teams RWBY and 7 ride on a Bullhead where Naruto asked Ruby. "You feeling nervous?"
Ruby nodded and asked. "How are fourth year missions like?"
Weiss answered instead. "From what I hear, third year missions are pretty dangerous and quite unlike ours. They've often been sent to guard caravans or investigate sightings."
Naruto said. "Weiss is correct Ruby. I won't lie that these missions are really dangerous and sometimes end with one of us dead or worse, injured to the point where we can no longer become Hunters."
Ruby paled at that and asked. "How did you guys feel when you did your first mission?"
Naruto smiled while seeing Sakura glare at him. "We were as nervous as you were Ruby except for Sakura. She actually wet herself on the Bullhead and cried."
"HEY! I wasn't crying! I just some dust in my eye! Although I can admit the whole wetting my shorts part, no use in trying to deny it. The pilots saw it too." Sakura all but admitted.
Hinata playfully added. "Not to mention we had to go to a clothing shop and explain to the shopkeepers about your situation at a nearby village."
"DAMMIT HINATA! NOT YOU TOO!" Sakura screamed at Hinata while everyone chucked.
Sasuke suggested. "How about we tell some stories to pass the time?"
Yang added. "I actually wanted to hear what you guys did, maybe some crazy stunts on some of your missions..."
Naruto nodded. "You know, there's this one mission..."
Naruto explained about the part where they had to investigate a criminal assault at Mistral and they ended up in hot pursuit by the criminals and into a nearby forest inhabited by Grimm. They were at the part where Sakura was piloting a Bullhead because of the pilots there died.
"Oh, come on! My piloting wasn't that bad!" Sakura protested.
"Yes, it is." All three of her teammates said.
"You did stuff nobody should do on a helicopter." Naruto said. "Like the part where you did a barrel roll..."
"...to avoid those Nevermores trying to rip off the engines." Sakura defended.
"...and then you pulled the chopper into a high climb and cut the engines..." Hinata interjected.
"..to dodge the other Grimm trying to climb to our ship." Replied Sakura. "Admit it, you guys had fun while we're doing that."
Sasuke pointed out. "Hinata got sick and then promptly threw up on the lower part of my pants."
Hinata countered. "My throwing up on your pants aside, whose idea was it to use the Atlas drone inside the Bullhead and then jump off?"
Sasuke admitted. "I can admit it was my idea." Then he pointed at Naruto. "But it was our dearest leader who flew the damn thing."
Team RWBY looked at Naruto who remained calm despite eyes staring at him. "It was a spur of the moment decision. The Grimm were tearing the Bullhead apart and I had to man the drone. Sasuke and Sakura were my gunners while Hinata was constantly checking on the systems. I had to admit that it was one of our most scariest moments."
Blake asked. "And flying the drone?"
Sakura answered. "Oh Naruto did more than fly the drone, he used the cannons to control our descent and landed us in the middle of the road of Mistral, we were banged up but alive. Hinata contacted the authorities and explained everything. They were relieved that no one was harmed."
Sasuke shook his head at the memory of Sakura maniacally firing the machine guns at the flying Grimm while they were falling.
They finally arrived at the designated site where they saw a massive temple at a far distance. Hinata took the opportunity to scout ahead with her sniper rifle.
"I scoured the area guys and it seems that there are three entrances to it. I couldn't see any further but I can tell that they can stretch for miles. I also noticed that there are Grimm within and they are protecting some bluish looking crystals during my brief scrying."
Naruto said. "I believe it's best if our joint teams split up. You do the pairing Ruby."
Ruby thought for a bit, analyzing hers and 7's abilities. She then announced. "I believe that Sasuke and Blake should be paired. Hinata and Weiss. Yang and Sakura." She looked at Naruto. "And you and me, Naruto."
Naruto nodded approvingly. "A wise decision. I approve."
Sasuke and Blake plus Hinata and Weiss would be the ones destroying the crystals while Yang and Sakura would be supporting Naruto and Ruby if the former pairs succeeded.
(Sasuke and Blake)
The two ran towards the eastern part of the temple where they saw Grimm infesting the grounds.
"No matter." Blake began. "We'll clear this temple of Grimm."
"Even if I must do it myself." Sasuke droned.
The two fought past Grimm with Sasuke's large scale attacks left Blake to clean up and leftover Grimm that Sasuke didn't kill. They were blocked by a gate.
"I hesitate to think what you would've done without me..." Sasuke said.
"You're about to find out." Blake countered. "It seems I must go around and open the gate on the other side."
Blake left Sasuke for a moment and used her Gambol Shroud to traverse around the broken and treacherous grounds of the side areas. When she finally went to the other side of the gate, she heard Sasuke call out. "You done yet? I've been racking up a kill count."
"The way is open." Blake said as she opened the gate.
"Finally, let us continue."
Blake found yet another gate which she decided to go to the side alleys to reach The other side. She opened the gate and the pair fought Grimm until they reached another room.
"I don't think I can find a way to bypass this door." Blake commented.
Sasuke replied. "Then let us try a direct approach. Guard me while I prepare. The Grimm are sure to sense my growing power."
Blake did so and fought back against the Grimm who are being attracted by Sasuke's powers. Sasuke grunted. "Almost..just a little...longer!"
A minute of Blake protecting Sasuke and the latter made a powerful bow and arrow that not only cut through the door but also the crystal behind it.
"Incredible. You didn't just blast open the door..." Blake said in amazement.
"Both the Grimm and the power structure will trouble us no more. Contact the others and tell them the victory I provided for you." Sasuke ordered.
"Guys, Sasuke and I have destroyed the first crystal. Alert the next pair to begin." Blake said through her scroll.
(Weiss and Hinata)
The two walked towards the western part of the temple where Hinata commented. "It seems that the Grimm are staging heavier defenses to protect the second crystal."
Weiss replied. "How lovely. We'll take satisfaction in taking them down."
Hinata smiled at Weiss. "All in good time Weiss. These Grimm we have to fight are a mighty foe, we're going to prepare an army to face them. My rounds have been prepped with neurological stims to tame Grimm. They're ready for field testing."
"Fascinating." Weiss said in wonder. "I'm looking forward to see it in action."
Weiss prepared her summons to last slightly longer while Hinata used her stims of her sniper rifle to control Grimm. They managed to get around thirty in total of both Weiss' summons and Hinata's slave broods until Weiss said in satisfaction. "Surely the bigger Grimm are no match for us now!"
Hinata nodded in agreement. "I believe that you are right Weiss. Let us head for the crystal."
Weiss used her glyphs to break through the barrier and the bigger Grimm attacked them both. Thankfully, the army the two brought have done their job very well and destroyed the enemy with great casualties.
Weiss used her glyphs to destroy the crystal. Hinata commented. "Destroying those two crystals releases a massive overflow of volatile energy from the surface of this temple. Clearly, these crystals were never meant to be dismantled like this."
(Ruby and Naruto)
Hinata called her leader through Weiss' scroll. "I'm afraid that you're in danger. That energy is closing in behind you. If it reaches your position..."
Naruto answered through Ruby's scroll. "Don't worry Hinata, we'll keep ahead of the energy, we can still win this."
Blake said through the scroll. "We're calling Sakura and Yang to assist you in taking down Grimm. They're meeting you right now."
Indeed they did. Yang called out to her sister. "Don't worry sis! Sakura and I'll kill these Grimm before you even get there."
Yang and Sakura took lead killing Grimm while Naruto and Ruby covered them from behind. Ruby noticed that Naruto unsheathed his silver sword and transformed it into a semi-automatic alien laser rifle.
Ruby asked him. "You use combination weapons?"
Naruto answered. "For my silver one at least. Hinata's rifle is a combination of bolt action sniper and a melee staff."
Ruby hummed in fascination and asked. "And your steel one?"
Naruto replied. "It's merely a steel sword with a small but deadly gun attached to it. Very loud."
Ruby nodded again. Her curiosity satisfied.
They fought their way to the last crystal where Ruby shot it with Crescent Rose. They felt something rumble beneath their feet and and a creature burst open the ground.
To their shock, the creature towered them immensely.
Sakura screamed. "KRAKEN! RUN!"
Everybody obeyed, running as fast as they can but the kraken blasted fire breaths at them. Ruby was fast enough to get away from the blast but Yang, Sakura and Naruto weren't so lucky.
Ruby used her Semblance to quickly carry her sister and Sakura to the entrance but she realized that her Semblance was drained for a bit and saw Naruto looking about to be eaten by the kraken. Ruby swing her scythe to the creature's mouth and hit its upper mouth, causing it to cry in pain.
Naruto tried to stand up but collapsed as the kraken burned his legs while they were running. He groaned out. "I...can't..."
Ruby took Naruto by the shoulder despite him being taller than her and ran all the way to the entrance. They barely made it when the creature made a swap which knocked them both down. Naruto barely crawled away as Ruby covered for him by swinging her scythe down at the creature's head. The kraken died when when the temple entrance collapsed on top of it.
Ruby saw her wounded companions and walked to them. Yang said. "Great job there sis! You saved our sorry butts!"
Sakura seconded. "What she said."
Naruto smiled at her. "Yeah, thanks for saving my life. And know that no matter what happens, I don't forget the people I owe."
Ruby blushed. "You are welcome."
Hinata suddenly can be heard through the scroll. "We've just discovered a whole area of treasure underneath the temple! Gold, artifacts, you name it! Weiss and I stumbled on it when the outside rumbled I think."
Sasuke added. "Blake and I are contacting the Beacon and Vale authorities now. They'll be here soon."
Naruto said. "We're hurt pretty bad here by a kraken. Best you tell them to send a medic squad when they come here."
Weiss said. "We will do that."
Fifty nine minutes later, the government arrived and they did find that treasure the joint team discovered. They thanked them and sent a medic squad to check their injuries. The joint teams returned to Beacon soon after.
