Ruby's True Lineage
One day, Naruto can be seen entering Team RWBY's dorm and said. "If you guys don't mind, I'll borrow Ruby for a bit. I'd like to speak to her in private."
Yang narrowed her eyes suspiciously and in a protective tone. "Whatever you can say to her, you can say to us."
Naruto shook his head. "I insist for a private conversation with Ruby. I know that it's a secret from you guys but I promise you Ruby that it will be worth your time."
Ruby answered. "It's okay guys. I'll go."
Yang threatened. "You better take care of Ruby, you hear?" Naruto only made a sound.
Naruto and Ruby walked all the way to the cafeteria area of the school where Naruto began speaking. "Ruby, I owe you and I know what I can think of to repay it. I'd like to talk to you about your parents."
Ruby looked confused and asked. "What about them and how do you know?"
Naruto answered. "I have the memories of Summer Rose located in Hinata's brainchild called the Animus. Allows us to relive the moments of our ancestors and all. But moving on..."
Naruto began saying. "Ruby, your mother is Summer Rose am I right?" Ruby nodded. "Nobody told you who your father is but I know who..." Seeing Ruby look up at him in anticipation, he revealed. "His name is Minato Namikaze."
"Minato was a prodigy who preferred maintaining his weapons as opposed to partying. He was calm and well-mannered person despite his humble origins and like you he got accepted into this very school we're in now. He became the leader of his team which I won't specify since I didn't care about it but I do know how he met your mother who was also the leader of her own team."
Naruto smiled as he continued, Ruby listening with rapt attention. "One of his teammates, my mother Kushina, introduced Summer to him. Summer and Kushina were literally partners in crime despite the separate teams. Due to the both of them being team leaders, they often met up, became close friends and eventually a couple."
He looked at Ruby. "You share his love for sweet things, his awkwardness, his love for weapons and his kind heart but moving on." He took a deep breath and said. "Like I said, they loved each other very much with my mother acting as the wingman. Both teams knew the relationship and approve it."
Ruby asked. "So what happened to my father after that?"
Naruto answered. "What happened to him actually happened to you. I don't know if you noticed but there are a lot of people who were jealous of him. Some started nasty rumors, others were passive aggressive while other people downright bullied him. It's because he was a prodigy in both weapons and spells you see. That recent victory he brought his team using a Semblance that struck fear into the hearts of his enemies, Grimm and human alike, sparked jealousy within the other students. But the worst part was that his teammates except for my mother never tried to help him nor defend him. Summer's team except for her of course was guilty to some extent. Only Summer and Kushina were the only people he could trust. After graduation, he distanced himself from his teammates and married Summer with Kushina being the only one present."
Ruby began to ask the question her mind was dreading. "How did my parents die?"
Naruto sighed, knowing this information will hurt Ruby but she needs to hear this. "Minato wanted to tell Summer that he would leave Remnant to another world called the Elemental Countries but he never got the chance. Their teams went into a joint operation and to their horror they witnessed a massive Grimm in the shape of a nine tailed fox attacked them along with other Grimm." He paused for a bit then said. "Minato took a finger to the chest aimed for Summer and was bleeding out from his wounds. Summer's team and Minato's defeated the beast and the other Grimm while Summer and Kushina tried to save your father. The damage too great, he confessed that he wanted to have a normal life with Summer and raise a child with her. Both women realized that he knew that Summer was pregnant with you Ruby and Summer begged her teammates and Minato's to save him. But the damage was already done as the trust Minato had in his teammates as well as Summer's had ceased to exist. Minato died of his massive wound later."
Ruby had tears in her eyes as she quietly asked. "How did my mother and yours react seeing the trust broken?"
"In the later years, Summer changed while she spent her time in Remnant with her team. She didn't get mad at her teammates or Minato's but that's because she was imitating her late husband in memory in terms of being quiet and calm. As for Kushina, she wasn't so lenient as your uncle Qrow suffered a broken jaw, Tai had five missing teeth, Raven's shoulders were dislocated while the rest of Minato's teammates -whose names shall not be revealed for they are undeserving- ended up with broken arms and legs."
Ruby asked quietly. "What happened to my mother?"
Naruto became quiet for a bit then said though not without great effort. "She was sent on a mission by Ozpin to defeat Salem because of her silver eyes. Gave her an ultimatum that if she doesn't agree, he will strip her Huntress license and make her an enemy of Vale or agree to work with him and survive and then she can live the rest of her days with her family. Made up some bull crap about destiny and how family was unimportant...grrr...just seeing that memory makes me so mad I want to punch something..."
Naruto continued, voice heavy with exhaustion. "Summer fought against Salem with everything she had but Salem told her that Ozpin neglected to tell her that she was immortal and demanded to know where you are. It's a rather good thing she told her teammates and Kushina about her mission and her pregnancy and entrusted you to my mother for her to raise. Salem tortured your mother and even though she couldn't find out your location, she turned your mother into a Grimm in a horrifying experiment."
Ruby felt pale and looked ready to throw up. Naruto said. "If you don't believe me, you can always ask Hinata for permission using her machine and access your parents memories but I'm warning you, your mind will not be able take what they've experienced."
Ruby stood up quickly and muttered. "I need time to think about this..I have to go!" She disappeared into petals back to her dorm.
"I'm so sorry Ruby." Naruto said forlornly seeing where Ruby took off.
(Team RWBY dorm)
Ruby sped up to the dorm and the girls quickly noticed the pale and teary eyed expression on their leader's face.
"Ruby, what happened?" Weiss asked.
Ruby answered quietly. "Naruto told me about my parents and what happened to them. Especially my mother."
Yang perked up. "What happened to her?"
Ruby sat down on the bed, not looking at her sister. "Ozpin forced her to fight Salem because of her eyes and she...she..."
Blake asked. "Yes?"
Instead of answering, Ruby broke down crying. Blake quickly ran to her and hugged her in comfort. Yang felt rage bubbling to her and begin to storm out of the dorm.
Weiss demanded, looking at Yang. "Where do you think you're going?"
"To look for Naruto, he's going to pay for what he said to my sister!" Yang all but growled.
Weiss called out. "Don't do anything stupid that might get you expelled. Naruto's a fourth year." She saw Yang leave the dorm.
(With Yang)
She walked around the school hallways till she found Naruto sitting at the cafeteria. She howled out his name.
Yang growled at him. "You made my sister cry...I should punch you for what you said..."
Naruto sighed and said in a knowing, flat tone. "And I would deserve it didn't I? I'm allowing you one punch. Just one punch and I won't hold it against you. I did give your sister a painful truth after all."
Four minutes later, Naruto would be seen walking back to his dorm rubbing his jaw while Yang would get a chastising from Goodwitch.
(A day later)
Ruby visited Naruto again and this time with her teammates present as he told her how he and his mother raised Ruby in the Elemental Countries instead of Remnant.
He told her that his mother was sick but held off dying until Naruto could take care of himself and know how to defend himself. On her deathbed, Naruto told Ruby that his mother charged him with taking care of her and deliver her to Qrow Branwen.
"Her name is Ruby Rose. Please look after her as if she was your own daughter." Naruto quoted, relaying his mother's dying wish.
Naruto told Ruby how he went into a long and arduous journey to get to Patch. How he had to make do with what little he has in his possession. He had to resort to stealing in order to get the food he and Ruby sorely need and the one time he was arrested in Atlas, he only requested that he'd take care of the baby while serving his sentence which the police agreed. After he was released, he finally arrived in Patch..
"By the time I got there, my shoes were worn out, my shirt was torn and my pants was ripped. I still had you in my arms when I gave you to your uncle. He and his team grieved for your mother and gave me as much provisions as I need. I left after I made sure you're safe in your uncle's hands." Naruto finished his story.
Weiss commented. "That's one journey you did for Ruby."
"It is. I traveled all over the world to find Ruby a home." Naruto replied.
Ruby said. "I'd like to try out this Animus."
"Go to Hinata. She'll teach you how to use it. Make sure one of us is there to supervise you." Naruto instructed. Ruby nodded then left for Team 7's dorm.
Ruby wore the helmet Hinata shown her called the Animus and relived her father's memories. As Naruto has said, he was humble, kind-hearted, polite, a real weapons nerd and compassionate. He met Summer and was immediately been smitten by her and they fell in love and married.
His death was also what Naruto had described. Ruby felt his pain, his helplessness as he spoke to Summer and Kushina of how he knew that the former was pregnant and how he was sad that he won't live to see his future child. How he wanted a normal life with Summer and raise their child away in some cottage in the middle of a faraway place. His final moments where Summer cradling him as the memory darkens and Ruby sees no more.
Ruby relived her mother's memories, skipping the love story part to the part after her husband's death. She maintained a calm visage around her teammates even to Kushina. She also made those cookies that her husband would love so much.
To Ruby's horror, she relived the part where she was vehemently against Headmaster Ozpin's order to kill Salem. He told her that her silver eyes made the difference against Salem. Summer didn't want to do it given that she recently gave birth to Ruby and wanted to raise her daughter as family. Something in which Ozpin brushed off as unimportant and that it 'was your destiny to defeat Salem' he told her.
Summer was mad at how she was being used as a weapon and then thrown away and how Ozpin told her that it was selfish of her for thinking about her children and how he was dragging children into a war that HE started. Her rant was cut off when Ozpin slapped her HARD in the cheek then gave her an ultimatum which was exactly what Naruto had described.
Ruby reeled back in shock as if SHE was the one being slapped. The next memory shown her confessing about Salem to her teammates. Raven giving her comforting words and Summer crying on Tai's shoulder. Qrow just frowned with a grave look as he watched Summer cry.
Summer pulled herself off of Tai and told Kushina. "Kushina, you were my dearest friend, nearly my sister. Can I ask for a favor?"
Kushina nodded and Summer continued. "If I don't make it, I'd like you to take my daughter away from this world. Raise her as if she was your own. I don't want Ozpin or Salem finding out about Ruby and using her to their own ends. This isn't the life I'd want for her."
Kushina replied. "I will Summer. Besides, Ruby will have Naruto to keep her company."
Summer turned to her teammates. "If you guys ever see Ruby again, please leave her out of this war. She must have nothing to do with Ozpin's and Salem's vendetta."
Qrow answered. "I speak for everyone here when I say that we understand your sentiment and not a word to Ozpin."
Summer nodded. "Thank you."
The memory fades and shows Summer being trapped by a pile of Grimm goo and saw Salem looking down on her sitting on her throne.
"You will tell me where your child is and I'll let you live." Salem flatly droned.
"Ruby is safe, Salem! Kushina already took care of that! You'll never find her!" Summer shouted.
Again to Ruby's horror, Salem walked and grabbed her (Summer) in the head and gouged her eyes out! She made an ear-piercing scream as Ruby saw only darkness.
"Now you will never see your daughter again.." Salem mocked then she added. "I will not be the one who kills her though. You can do it in my place."
More screams and white noise blared in the darkness then-
Ruby flinched when she felt Hinata rip the helmet off her head. Hinata grabbed Ruby's head and ordered firmly but gently. "Look at me."
Ruby struggled to focus as she looked into Hinata's pale eyes as the older woman ordered her to look at her.
Naruto walked in and demanded. "What happened?"
Hinata looked at him and answered. "She's in shock."
Naruto sighed in frustration and ordered Hinata. "Get her back to her team's dorm and let her rest."
Hinata gently grabbed Ruby's arm and held her while whispering. "Let's go, come on...let's go." They both walked past Naruto as he made a tired sigh and picked up the helmet where he placed it on one of the drawers.
Hinata escorted Ruby back to Team RWBY's dorm and explained what happened. Weiss, Blake and Yang were shocked that Ruby would have to experience what her parent's have to go through and thanked Hinata for bringing Ruby to them.
Ruby didn't attend classes that day as Weiss covered for her saying that Ruby was sick and needed rest. The memories of her parents will haunt her forever but at least she made peace now that she found closure of their fates.
