Nico couldn't tell for how long they stayed like that, limbs around one another on the shore of the canoe lake. He looked up when Will tapped his back. The blond only pointed with his chin.
Nico looked. The sun was already setting, and the sky had painted the clouds orange and pink, which reflected over the surface of the lake. The landscape was so beautiful, Nico doubted for a moment if it was real.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" Will's voice sounded wistful. Nico only nodded with his head, admiring the perfection of the scene.
"Thank you for this." Nico turned back to the other guy and managed a smile, as he reached for his hand and laced their fingers together.
"Nothing to thank me for." Will smiled as well and touched the back of his finger to Nico's cheek, making a shiver run over him internally. A necessity to be closer took over him, and he just let it be. Leaning into him, he pressed his lips into Will's in a quick movement.
He didn't quite know what reaction he'd receive from him, as he hadn't even asked before kissing him. But he was relieved when he saw Will smile and take his hand to the back of his neck to pull him in once again.
Time really slowed down when they were together. Nico was still really amateur in this thing of kissing, but he was glad he didn't so much have to try hard as Will's lips lead the way most of the time.
They brushed Nico's one last time and softly pulled back, leaning his forehead against his after plating a small kiss in his cheek, which made Nico let out a small titter. Even though the silence that remained between them was a comfortable one, Nico still felt the need to say something that had been circling his mind for some time.
"Who would've thought..." He began, whispering.
"Who would've thought, what?" Will's lips tugged into a sly smile.
"A pair like us..." Nico shrugged with one shoulder, searching for the right words. "Together, as a couple."
"What do you mean... a pair like us?" Will's head cocked to the side.
"Like... so different... from one another."
"Oh..." Will stayed silent for a moment, his gaze suddenly falling.
"But not different in a bad way... I meant–" Will interrupted him.
"I know what you meant." Then he took both of Nico's hands in his, stroking them with his thumbs. "We're like... a moonbow."
"A moonbow?" Nico thought he knew what that was, but he didn't know how was it supposed to fit in this context.
"Yeah... It's like a rainbow, but it happens around the moon." The blond explained. "They are rare. Unique. Like us."
"Like us..." Nico repeated, trying to process the beauty of what William had just said.
"We're rare... But we are great." Will smiled at him, giving his hands a squeeze. "Or so I think."
"Yeah..." Nico smiled as well. They stared into each other's eyes as if nothing else in the world mattered. Nico was the one to break the silence.
"Thanks for being my moonbow, Solace."
The end.
