"mmm..."
beep*
My alarm rang, beeping multiple times as I open my eyes, moaning displeasent.
"ohhh, is morning already? Ughh. I was having a good dream."
I said as i forget about it already. I hit the snooze button and try to get out of bed and into my chair, it wasn't easy.
After struggling for a bit, I got on. I have to use the bathroom but is hard trying to get on the toilet. I exit my room and called out.
"mom!"
Soon I heard a reply: "yes!?"
I was grateful that she's home today, for a while at least. I asked her: "Mom, I need your help to get me on the toilet."
I gotten used to her helping me on the toilet, even know the first time during those days were, embarrassing and a little humiliating to say the least.
My mom came up to me and she helped me on the toilet, after that was over I have to take a bath, can't really take showers anymore.
I took a quick bath, call my mom to get me out and thankfully she brings my clothes for me, I thanked her afterwards. She also told me that she made breakfast and I told her that I'll be out soon.
I put on my clothes and left the bathroom and went into the kitchen. She made a few different breakfasts like scramble eggs, hash browns and sausages.
I roll up to the table as mom said: "imma dish you out dearly."
"uh, give me little amounts. I want to get to school without getting late."
She looked at me a bit surprised but soon it turn lighten.
"hm, okay then. You know you usually moody everytime back at home, have you grow liking to your new school?"
"well, not yet. But hopefully it'll be bearable."
She dish out my stuff and put it in front of me: "hm, optimistic I see. Heh, you changed since then, I'm grateful.
She turned around and proceed to dish herself out, when she turned i let out a small smile on my face which quickly fade away as I eat my food.
Afterwards I said my goodbyes and leaved the house to head to school. I still remember that girl back at school, she's different then the rest. I'm looking forward to see her again.
I quickly roll down the sidewalk as more people from my school started to show up.
I reach the area where I first saw the two together and surprisingly enough I saw them again. I roll closer and try to present myself to them.
Sayori was looking at him, she was talking to him. I wonder if he is her friend as well. It wasn't long until sayori looked away and look forward and saw me.
When she did her face brighten up and said out loudly: "hey!"
I was now in front of them at the least as sayori head towards me quickly.
The man right next to her stare at me a bit puzzled as he walks toward us.
"hey Simon, is nice seeing you here. Do you live here?"
At that moment I realized that I need to tell her that I do live here.
"um, yeah I do."
I glance at the guy who was standing behind sayori on her left. He was pretty tall, taller than sayori. He has light brown eyes, and has a average build.
He was looking at me like he was judging me somehow. It was starting to get to me.
"heh, that's great to know, I live here as well!"
"oh, that's nice, I guess."
She giggle a bit, the guy went up to her and said.
"Sayori we need to go, we're going to be late for class."
"oh, right! I forgot."
Soon we continue as I was already not liking this guy. I wonder who he is as sayori introduce him to me shortly.
"Oh right, simon, this is my friend: Mc!"
I was perplexed, why is his name is mc. He looked at her puzzled as I am.
"uhh, why is his name is mc?"
"o-oh right! Ehehe, I forgot. I call him that for short. His real name is makoto."
"oh..."
Mc stares at me with a glance, he looked away afterwards. Yeah, I don't think I will like him.
"hey mc," He looks at her.
"This is my new friend i made yesterday. I told you his name, right?"
"y-yeah, I heard you before."
He looks at me: "your name is Simon, right?"
"yeah."
I nod my head, while avoiding eye contact.
Sayori looks clueless on our disliking for each other, but she smile and said.
"I certainly hope you guys get along well."
"what?"
"What?"
My question was a little louder than his, they both look at each other than at me. They looked away soon after as we made it to school. We entered the courtyard as we reach the stairs. The two walked up as I took the grassy hill way, as sayori looked back to see me but I was already right next to her.
"hm?"
I stare at her and said: "hey."
This startled her as she turned her head to me and said: "ah, simon I wasn't expecting you to be right next to me."
"yeah, I can't go up those stairs. My wheelchair lack legs of their own."
I jokingly said, sayori didn't react to the last thing I said but felt sorry for me.
"oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know."
"is alright really, as long as I get up here."
Mc was looking a bit impatient and said.
"Excuse me but we need to get to class, it'll start soon."
Yep, still not liking him.
Sayori gasp and turned around.
"you're right! We need to go!"
She said that last word to me as we entered the school and went down the same hallway. While heading down, I keep glancing at the back of mc's back, I feel like I'm making assumptions about him. Maybe he's not bad? I don't know.
They slow down as mc was about to walk away until he turn to face sayori.
"Well this is my stop. I'll see you later sayori."
He looked at me and said: "And you too simon."
And here i though he'll forget about me.
"okay, see you mc. I see you at the club."
He turned and waved goodbye.
"bye."
He enters the room as sayori wave her hand to me to follow: "come on."
"okay."
We went down the hall, I heard her said club, they both go to a club?
"soo, what do you think about mc?"
My thoughts were interrupted as I look at her.
"hm?"
I thought for a moment, should I be honest?
"Uhh, I'm not sure yet, we just met."
"okay, I hope you get along with him, he's a nice guy, he helps me with a lot of things. You know he was my childhood friend, so we live close by."
"really?"
I wasn't expecting that, she knows him for that long? I wouldn't be the wiser.
"yeah." She look forward.
"We both go to school together and walk home together. He's also part of the literature club, and i'm vice president!"
"wha...?"
I was baffled, there's a club for literature? And sayori is vice president. I would never expected that.
I was trying to find words but only noises come out of my mouth.
"is, something wrong?"
I looked back at her.
"ah! No, I mean uh well. I wouldn't expect you to be part of a club, let alone something like literature."
"mm? Heh, you know, you and mc have the same feeling, even know he didn't admit it."
I stare her a little perplex: "really?"
"yeah. Oh, we're here."
We look at our classroom, she looks at me.
"Simon, we can talk about this later, okay?"
"yeah, of course."
She smile: "okay, let's head in."
We entered the room right on time, the class has begin.
After a long while class was over, we pack up our things and was ready to leave. Sayori was the first one to leave before me. I catch up to her even know she didn't walk away from me.
I approach her as she come closer.
"hey."
I greeted as she said.
"hey Simon, let's keep moving, my next class is math class. I don't like math."
"heh, who does?"
I said as sayori chuckle a little: "yeah, I know right."
We move on, going with the flow of everyone's walking speed. Sayori said.
"Hey simon." I turned my head to her: "what?"
"I have to ask, do you like literature?"
"uhh..."
I honestly don't know, I'm not exactly a fan of literature but, i'm really not.
"well, not really. Ain't it just about books and stuff?"
"uh, not really. There's more to literature than just books. There's poems, writing and expressing yourself through words."
I stare out just unsure, it doesn't sound too exciting.
"yeah, I'm not interested. Sorry."
"uhh..."
Sayori looked sad.
"I was thinking that you should join our club, if you're interested."
At first I thought that I shouldn't, but after seeing sayori sad look, I might check it out if I have the time.
"And also, there's at least three other members in there. Most of them are girls."
I turn my head to her, not really surprised.
"huh, that should of been expected."
Sayori seemed to disliking that sentence i said.
I thought about it until sayori said: "can you at least check it out with me real quick?"
"right now?"
"no, when school ends."
"oh."
I thought about it as sayori said: "well think about it for now, I have to go to my class, bye."
She waved at me as I said my goodbyes and went to my class.
After a long classes and meeting some not so great people, I leaved the classes and it was finally time for lunch.
I scroll down the hall and was looking for sayori, but I couldn't see her. I thought that I could see her at the cafeteria as I head there.
I managed to get my lunch and was going to my spot until I saw many people there.
"aw great."
So I decided to find another spot, I roll around as a few of the students leaved bad remarks to me: "hey, having trouble finding a seat?"
Some were chuckling at that remark, if I wasn't crippled I would have said something. Instead I gave him the stink eye and move on.
"Bunch of assholes..."
I notice a table with only one person sitting there, reading a book. It was a girl with long purple hair, I have seen many interesting hair styles but she's by far the most interesting one.
At first I was looking around for a better place to be by myself and notice sayori sitting with many people around her, and also she was sitting right next to mc.
So I decided to sit near the corner of the room by the right side where she's reading alone.
I park my chair at the front and put my tray on the table, I looked at her, she seems to be focus on that book of hers. Her expression looks absorb and slightly intense, she seems to be mesmerize by her book. I don't even think I could snap her out of it even if I gave it a chance.
For now I decided to eat, I sometimes glance at her, she was really beautiful and attractive looking with bright purple eyes.
I focus on eating for now, I was wondering if she might like literature, but wasn't so sure. I eat for a couple of minutes until I heard a slight growl, and then a discomfort moan.
I looked at her as she put her book down and focus on eating. She was eating out of a blue container, possibly homemade meal.
I decided to stop looking at her, it feels strange and if she notice then she'll think i'm a creep.
I grab my utensils and it made a slight noise which she notice and looked at me. I notice her as well as she stare at me a bit surprise which quickly turn embarrassed as she looks away.
"u-um, sorry. I didn't know someone was here with me."
She spoke in a somewhat deep voice but still a bit mature, smooth and a little quiet.
"uh, is alright. I couldn't find a place to be alone soo. Yeah, is my fault really."
"huh?"
She looks at me confuse a little, but reassure me.
"no, is not your fault. Is nothing, i'm just gonna go."
"what? wait!"
I said to her a little loud enough for her to hear. She stops and look at me, curious and wonder.
"uhh..." I find it hard to say my reasons to her, is probably because I'm talking to someone I don't know. It could also be that I'm a bit shy at the moment.
"is alright. I wasn't bothered by you anyway. I mean, you can stay if you want?"
"um...?"
She looks at her food and back to me.
"I'm sorry but class will begin soon, I gotta go."
She left, I couldn't come up with anything else. She seems a bit distant torwards others, i don't blame her, she wasn't expecting me to be here, I would of run as well.
Soon lunch was over and I went back to class. It was a little boring but at least noteworthy at the least.
Class was over and the school day was over. Me and sayori left the class as we head down the hallway as she stops and stare at me.
"So simon, have you consider?"
I was thinking about that and have my conclusion.
"yeah, I'll come by."
Sayori looked happy and said: "yay! Let's go."
She quickly head off as I follow while saying: "hey, wait up!"
We took a route for me to easily get up the next floors. We werenow on the third floor as sayori said.
"we're almost there."
At this point I was starting to feel anxious, i'm going to meet a bunch of people i never met before. This all feels too fast as we reach a door with a sign above that said: "Literature club"
Sayori turns to me and said.
"we're here!"
She see that I'm a bit nervous.
"are you okay?"
"uhmm..."
I try to calm down a little and gain some sense of courage.
"yeah, I'm fine."
"you sure? I'm sorry for pushing you too far."
"is fine, really. I need to met new people anyway."
Sayori was unsure at first but slowly changed her mood.
"okay."
She turn to the door and swing it open.
"guys, I brought someone to check out this club!"
Oh great, thank sayori. I roll in while saying.
"Sayori you didn't need to announce that I'm here."
Sayori seemed to ignore what I said as I looked around and saw four people here. The first person I noticed and remembered was mc, he looked a bit surprise to see me.
The next person I know was that purple hair girl, she was glazing at me almost shocked. She was also holding a book up as well and slowly changed her expression.
Then I saw the girl with pink hair, now that I seen what she looks like; She looks young, very cute, too cute in fact. She was really short and and was looking discontent.
And my glances landed on the last girl, she was pretty tall, very beautiful and cute looking with a white bow behind her head. I notice her eye color, it was green, bright green. She was quite surprise but took it lightly than others, almost like she's welcoming me.
"hey guys, this is my new friend I been telling you about. Simon!"
I roll right next to her and said.
"I could introduce myself."
"eheh, sorry."
Soon everyone was staring at me with different expressions, the girl with green eyes walked forward a little and said.
"hello! You must be the new exchange student I heard about."
Her voice sounded sweet, kind and slightly high pitch but not annoying, in fact it felt the opposite.
She was smiling at me, it felt genuine then I have seen before. Before I could speak up the short girl spoke up.
"What? He's the new exchange student?"
She said it kinda harsh, I reply to her comment.
"And what were you expecting?"
She took it less lightly as the purple hair girl spoke up.
"Natsuki you shouldn't be treating our guest so rudely."
She turns to her: "what? I'm just saying."
She crossed her arms afterward. Most of them were not liking her expression, but mc spoke up.
"You know, you treat me the same way when I came here."
She look at him like she wasn't expecting him to talk.
"Wha--No I wasn't!"
"yes you were."
"no I wasn't!"
Sayori broke them up: "guys, guys stop! We need to make a good impression."
I put my left hand up and said: "No, I seen enough." I put my hand down as everyone was staring at me.
"Apparently my present has cause some issues."
The girl with green eyes looks concerned.
"what? No of course not." She got a little closer.
"I'm sorry for your rough first impression, natsuki can be a bit rough around the edges, but she's a nice person once you get to know her."
"yeah, she is."
Sayori suddenly said. I look at natsuki as she glare at me, apparently she doesn't like me here. What's her deal?
The girl spoke up again.
"Anyways. I think we should start over again. Let us tell you are names: My name's Monika, I'm the club president of this club."
She stood straight and continue.
"You already know Sayori, right?"
I looked at her and back to her: "Of course, i also know mc as well."
"oh, so you do know him? Well that's good to know. But do you know these girls?"
She bend forward a little while moving her body to point at the others. I looked at both of them and see the purple hair girl,i'm curious about her.
"Well, I met her in the cafeteria." I point at her, she seems a little uneasy and shy looking.
"But, I don't know her name."
"oh, well her name is yuri. She's very passionate about reading."
She looks slightly anxious and wasn't looking at us.
"oh."
I simply replied, monika continues with introduction.
"And then we have natsuki, our last member."
She still have her arms cross, looking a bit pouting.
"And that's everyone."
I looked around for a bit: "hm, well that's nice I guess. Ergh I mean, is nice to meet you all."
I need to kick that moody habit, if I can.
Everyone was staring at me as natsuki spoke up.
"So are you just visiting?"
"I'm checking this club out, I wonder if it's anything interesting."
Monika spoke.
"well, we do a lot of activities here, we're also trying to get new members recently. But it hasn't been doing well."
She seems a little distant about it as sayori said.
"yeah, we try during the festival but... It didn't bring any interests in our club."
Natsuki sigh, it seems she remembers that time, was it really that bad?
Yuri actually spoken up: "yes, the festival didn't end up as we planned but it was certainly fun."
"yeah! It totally was."
Sayori said as mc said.
"yeah, it was something all right."
"anyways, enough about the festival, I say we start our club activity right now."
Everyone was in a agreement as they gather around while monika went up to me.
"Simon, would you like to be a part of this activity? Is not going to be too intense or anything."
She said that like it was a joke or something. I said: "yeah, sure."
Soon everyone was around monika, somewhat. I was right next to sayori as mc was near the middle with yuri.
Monika spoke up.
"Okay, everyone! Today I was really coming up with today's activity, so I decided to read up on anything that may inspire me. Then it hit me, why don't we tell each other what inspire us. You know, to write and create."
Few of them, well mainly the girls were uncertain about that idea. Maybe it's personal?
"Soo, who wants to go first?"
Monika glaze around and notice their reactions, her expression lower a little.
"Uhm, you know is fine if you don't want to tell us everything, just tell us to the point."
The girls expression were lighter now, as sayori spoke first.
"Okay. Well what inspire me is Happy thoughts and a little sad though as well."
This made them a bit perplex as natsuki said.
"Sad thoughts? I thought you like writing happy things that are cutesy and weird."
"natsuki is that how you think what my poems are about?"
Sayori looks slightly insulted.
"Well, kinda. I ain't saying they're bad."
"oh, well thank you."
She put on a smile again as monika said.
"okay, well who's next?"
Natsuki put her hand up: "me."
"natsuki you don't need to put your hand up."
"I know, i just don't want to be last."
She crossed her arms then put them down.
"Anyways, what inspire me is... Uhh..."
She seems to be having trouble trying to find her reasons.
"uhmm... Oh, right. Is mainly from experiences really."
"what kind?" Monika questioned.
"uhm. They're personal."
She looks away a bit in thoughts. Monika said.
"okay, that's understandable. Who's next?"
She put her fingers up as yuri hesitantly said.
"I-i would..."
She took a short deep breath and said.
"most of my inspirations are from real life itself and, events that happened in my life."
"that's cool yuri. I like to say mines: My inspirations are mostly from an epiphany i had once. Don't worry everyone i been doing fine now."
A few of them were quite surprise to hear that, sayori question it.
"wow, really?! That's cool."
"ehehe, yeah, you can say that."
She had an epiphany once? I wonder what she's realize.
I notice mc moving around for a moment and spoke up.
"Well, I guess is my turn."
He took a brief moment to think things through. Apparently he didn't know what to say.
"Well, I guess my inspirations are from you girls. If that doesn't sound weird."
I notice natsuki looking surprise to hear that which turned curious.
"really? Well I'm glad you find something to be inspire about. It can really be anything really."
"yeah, I guess is really the time I spent with you guys, is really a memorable moment for me."
"aw, mc."
Sayori looks flattered but also happy. Mc smile at her as well. This was hard to look at, it feels like their's something going on with them.
"anyways, i say that was very informativ--"
"Wait hold on!"
Natsuki interrupted.
"eh, what?"
She stares at her confused.
"Simon hasn't said his yet."
"what?"
I wasn't expecting this, I feel like I'm being put in the spot.
"Natsuki, we don't know if Simon writes poems or books. His not part of the club, if he's decided to join."
"oh, well...Uhh, Nevermind..."
I felt relieved, I had to thank monika for saving me there. I didn't want to tell them that I do make poems. Well expect that one time."
I notice that natsuki waa staring at me but when I eyed her, she looks away. What's her deal?
"A-anyways. I say that wraps up our meeting. This was a nice way to get to know each other more. I just got to say sorry for bringing you guys out of your comfort zone, but is always a good thing to try new things and experiment once in a while."
The others were quiet, does monika do this once in a while? Sounds intense.
"yeah well, not everyone is an open book monika."
Yuri finds that humorous: "huhu, nice literature pun natsuki."
"tchehe, yeah that was a little intentional."
The rest of the girls giggle as well, mc stood there and smiled at them. I get the pun but I didn't find it too humorous. Probably because I don't do literature that much.
"Anyways."
Monika turns to me.
"So Simon, what do you think of the club? I know it seems different and not too exciting but is still a wonderful club with many stories to tell. Will you be interested in joining?"
"uhh..."
Oh boy, I feel like I'm being put on a spot again. Everyone is staring at me, with anticipation. I don't know if I should join, I'm afraid if they might find out my mess up writing style and hints that I'm messed up.
I have to think this through.
"Um... I, I have to think about this."
"hm?"
I roll away as I turned around and move away from them. I stop near the door in thoughts.
"Simon...?"
Sayori called out, her words sounded worried. I looked over my shoulder, barely seeing them. I saw sayori looking concerned.
I looked forward. I don't know about joining but as long as I don't get to show them anything I wrote before, it should be find.
I sigh shortly after and said: "okay..."
I roll back to face them, they all looked pretty concerned and started to look eager for my answer. Mc though looks blankly at me, what's wrong with him?
"alright, I decided... I'll join."
Sayori gasp and looked happy, monika looks relieved and the same goes to yuri. Natsuki though look a bit sour for some reason.
"Yaaay! I'm happy you're joining simon."
"oh great."
I briefly heard natsuki said quietly to herself, yuri said.
"You really have us worried there."
"i'll say. Well, is official now. Welcome to the literature club Simon. I'm looking forward to what you'll make."
That made me concerned and perplex.
"hmm? What i make?"
"yeah, we make poems every day, well once in a while."
My mouth open up slightly, I think I made a mistake. I struggle to find words to say.
"okay, everyone! You're free to go, I'm looking forward to see you all tomorrow."
Everyone left to pack up as I looked at monika. I wanted to tell her about the poems until sayori interrupted.
"Hey simon, you said you live in the same neighborhood that I am?"
I glance at her and looked away, I was more concerned on telling monika about the poems.
"yeah yeah we do, but I need to talk to monika real quick."
"oh, okay, I'll wait for you then."
I was scrolling to her until I look back.
"No no, you go on. I'm used to walking home alone..."
Walking, ughh, I shouldn't have said that.
I heard sayori moan upsettling just barely as I reach monika as she was piling up papers and put them in her bag. She heard my wheelchair and turned to me.
"Oh, hey simon."
"hey. Uhh, monika I need to speak to you about poems..."
"oh yeah? What it is?"
"i..."
I was having trouble thinking of what to say, so I told her the jest of it.
"*sigh* The truth is that I don't want to share any poems. They're all personal to me. Plus I don't really like writing ever too often."
"hm?"
Monika look quite surprise to hear that.
"You don't like writing? Well, I understand why you don't want to share but everyone else grow used to sharing theirs. You're not the only one. You don't need to share the ones that are close to you, if you want you can understand more that poems don't always tell the stories as it is. They are always full of vague, abstract and never to the point in details. Just, think of it as a mystery."
"ohh."
I was listening to her and understand what she's saying. Funny since not many of the teachers are that interesting.
"you see? That's why everyone in this club love writing poems, it can be fun and they have a lot of freedom to make whatever they please. But, if you don't want to share then, I guess I should tell the others about it."
Maybe I should give it a try, if she tell the others then they might not like my decision.
"No, is alright. I'll give it a try."
"you will? Yay! Thanks for reconsidering simon. I'm looking forward to what you'll make."
"heh. Right."
I started to feel anxious about that, i don't know how to feel about that but it should be find.
"well I'll see you tomorrow then."
"you too simon, I'll see you tomorrow~"
"yeah."
I scroll back and turned around, nearly have a hard time since the area I was in was a bit narrow thanks to the desks and the teachers desk.
I leave the room and head down the floor, I leave the school and was heading home. My thoughts linger on what monika said, freedom of making poems. I might try writing one, but I will try to make it personal, I want to experiment.
Monika is an interesting person alright, no wonder she's the president. She has that confident and leadership potential. When she spoke it felt, warmth, and inspiring. I'm looking forward to know her more.
I made it home, my mom wasn't home yet, I think she's coming back now. I decided to take this time to create a poem, before I take off my uniform.
After spending almost two minutes writing a poem, I finished and i was satisfied with it. The title called: "Isolate."
Is about me always alone, everytime I try to make a friend they usually ignore me or back stab me and stop talking to me. But it has a good ending though, I finally found someone, and that was sophie.
I put it down and turn off my lamp, I then put it in my bag right next to my book that I wrote. I should probably write something in there. To reminisce about this, good moments I like to hold on.
I wonder what tomorrow will hold, it feels like I finally have a friend, not one but five. Yeah I consider him too, as long he doesn't annoyed me.
I pull out my book and start writing.
