Reigen and Pan had eaten their dinner in relative silence afterwards. Since Pan's arrival was unexpected, Reigen settled on ordering take-out for the night. Pan didn't mind, but she would be lying if she said she didn't miss her grandmother's cooking.

After they had finished their food and brushed, Pan went to Reigen's room while Reigen himself draped a blanket while laying on the couch.

"Goodnight Pan"

"'Night Reigen"

Pan closed the door behind her, and immediately started focusing her senses. She heard Reigen shuffling for a bit on the couch, seemingly too restless to fall asleep. Time slowed to a crawl as she waited for Reigen to stop.

Her patience paid off, as ten minutes later, she started to hear light snoring from the living room.

'Finally,' Pan thought to herself, 'I thought he would never fall asleep.'

Pan then proceeded to slowly open the window door at a pace that wouldn't wake Reigen up. She looked out to see if anyone was still out at night, and when she confirmed that the coast was clear, she jumped out and started flying. Reigen had told her that although psychic powers exist in this world, not that many people have them. So it would probably be smart to try and avoid people seeing her flying and freaking out.

When Pan stretched out her senses to try and find the facility Reigen told her he found her in, she ran into a small problem. There were plenty of these psychic energy signals all over the place, initially making it hard to pin the specific location. Luckily, Reigen also had said that the destroyed building was in a forest, which narrowed her search down quite a bit.

Eventually, she found a forest that had good amounts of this psychic energy. Landing in a cleared area, she started exploring her surroundings.

"There's several trees here that're completely uprooted. Was this the place that Reigen talked about?" Pan wondered aloud. There was no way that this was the work of a construction company, or else there would be more trees cleared out at the start of the forest, instead of just a random spot within. This had to be the right place.

As Pan followed the path of felled trees and uneven soil, it became more and more clear that there was a struggle that took place here.

Heart pounding with anticipation, she started walking at a brisk pace towards the source, afraid that flying or running would scare off whoever happened to be there. If she wanted even a slim chance of going back home, she had to make a good first impression. Which was completely against her usual way of bluntly asking for something with no tact. There was absolutely no sound coming from the forest wildlife, as if they were also waiting with baited breath.

But...something was wrong. She could feel it. Despite this supposedly being the area that matched Reigen's description, the psychic energy here felt very weak compared to the other hotspots that she sensed. In fact, it was constantly decreasing with each step that she took! Pan increased her pace ever so slightly.

Soon enough, a building came into view. Or rather, what was left of it upon further inspection. The entire structure seemed to have collapsed in on itself, stone rubble and steel beams littered the area.

'This is the place that esper was at!' Pan thought with excitement. She couldn't get ahead of herself though, she had to find him first, THEN somehow convince him to send her back home instead of trying to kill her.

It was a tall order, but Pan was always up for a challenge, her Saiyan blood demanded it.

'His energy is fading fast though.' Feeling that his signal was starting to fade, she grew worried. The odd thing was that the source of the esper's energy wasn't even under the rubble, which was where Reigen said he would be.

Instead, it was coming from the forest behind the facility.

Getting a bad feeling in her gut, she tentatively went over to investigate. What was he doing there? Reigen had said that some esper kid knocked him out cold, but that was hours ago. Was he planning on taking revenge on the espers that wronged him, now that he had awoken?

Walking closer and closer to her target, she called out to him:

"Hello, anyone there? My name's Pa-." Her introduction was brutally cut short as she finally saw who she was looking for.

Ishiguro, the elderly esper, was hanging from a tree on a rope wrapped around his neck.

And his psychic energy signal had completely vanished.

.

.

.

Reacting without hesitation, she flew over and cut the rope holding Ishiguro. He fell to the ground ungracefully, his head lolling to the side at an uncomfortable angle.

Pan stared into the man's lifeless eyes for what seemed like an eternity. When he didn't wake up, she felt absolutely crushed. Her one chance of possibly going back home, and it was all gone, taken from her in the blink of an eye.

Tears started forming in her eyes even though she tried her hardest to stop them. Was this her fate? To constantly have everything ripped from her, bit by bit?

Before the waterworks could really start, however, something coming out of Ishiguro's pocket happened to catch her eye. Mildly curious, she furiously wiped away her tears, bending down and picking it up.

It was a folded piece of paper, the kind that you would find in an average notebook. She unfolded it and saw that Ishiguro had written in it haphazardly, as if he was in a rush.

"Dear Commoners,

I'll cut to the chase. Throughout my long, seventy-one year old life, I've had these powers, psychic powers to be precise. I never went a day without using them, they made my life so much easier, they put me above the rest of the insects of this world. With these powers, I could take over the planet, and people would respect me and fear my wrath! At least, that's what I thought. I assumed that if I just trained hard enough, I could finally beat that damn Toichiro, and usurp his position as leader of Claw!

But I couldn't. I tried, again and again, to no avail. I even developed specialized gravity powers! It just didn't matter what I did, I lost every time. And to add insult to injury, Toichiro gave me a scar each time that I lost, constantly reminding me of my failures. It bothered me so much that I resorted to wearing a gas mask wherever I went, just so I wouldn't be embarrassed by my own reflection.

That brings us to the events of today. It was supposed to be a normal operation, we kidnap some powerful esper kids, brainwash them, and add them to our ranks. Simple, right?

Wrong. Our actions ended up attracting one particularly powerful esper, Reigen Arataka. At first, I thought the man was a fraud, since he immediately tried to run away when I tried to fight him the first time. But when he got serious, he utterly manhandled me and spouted off crap about no one being "special" even with powers. What a load of shit!

But that fight with the one kid with the orange hair, that was the final nail in the coffin for me. When I, a seventy-one year old senior, couldn't even beat a single child who couldn't have been older than fourteen, something inside me broke. I felt that I had completely wasted my time. I'm old, but it's not like I can just go into a nice retirement home. I don't want to be patronized and babied by a bunch of powerless commoners. Hell, I can't even get a job and rejoin common society because I don't have a social security number, due to me going off the grid as soon as I got my powers.

I have absolutely nothing going for me anymore, nothing that makes me special. So I have decided to end my pathetic life here and now.

Goodbye Cruel World,

Ishiguro"

Pan took a deep breath after reading the entire note. That was...a lot to take in. The idea that anyone would kill themselves just for being weak was completely alien to Pan, who's entire life motto was to keep pushing yourself harder and to constantly improve. Coupled with the fact that it was for an extremely selfish reason like wanting to take over the world, Pan found it hard to sympathize with him, as horrible as it sounded.

But Ishiguro did provide some valuable information. Most notably Claw and its leader, Toichiro. Those were names that she would have to look out for. Considering that Ishiguro admitted that they were kidnapping kids and forcing them to join their ranks, her blood was already boiling with rage. These people were literally the entire reason why she was even here to begin with!

The saiyan part of her wanted to immediately hunt down this "Toichiro" and give him a piece of her mind, but she cooled herself down. Blindly raging into battle was how many people back in her world died to villains.

She swore not to make the same mistake.

Shaking her head out of her thoughts, she put the suicide note back in Ishiguro's pocket. She had memorized all the information from it, holding it for any longer than was necessary just felt wrong to her.

'Guess I should head back now,' Pan thought. It was getting really late, and if Pan woke up super tired tomorrow, Reigen may get suspicious.

Taking to the sky, Pan traced her steps back to Reigen's apartment, making sure not to go too fast and attracting attention. Hopefully she could sneak right back in without Reigen noticing.

When she got to the window to Reigen's room, she crouched down and slid her way in…

And was promptly introduced face-to-face with a very awake, very annoyed Reigen.

Fuck.

.

.

.

"So," Reigen started in a deathly calm tone, "mind telling what exactly you're doing out at night?"

Pan started subconsciously scratching the back of her head nervously, a habit picked up from Grandpa and her father, "Well, I can fly. So I did it when I thought you were sleeping."

Reigen raised an eyebrow at that, "I can see that. That still doesn't explain why you decided to go out flying in the middle of the night though." He paced around the room frantically.

"Do you have any idea how worried I was? I couldn't even call the police because you technically don't exist in this world!"

Pan resisted the urge to wince at Reigen's worried tone. The truth, it made her feel extremely guilty, but she pressed onwards.

"I went to go see Ishiguro," she confessed. Reigen slightly gasped, horrified.

Before Reigen could respond, Pan described exactly what she saw, "When I went to go see him, I was expecting a fight, but he had a noose wrapped around his neck! After that I checked his body and found his suicide note, he said that he killed himself because he felt that he wasn't special anymore. I left after I read the note." She was simplifying a lot of the stuff she read, but it was enough to make both of Reigen's eyes widen in shock.

The conman took a deep breath, "Well, I...certainly didn't expect him to do that." Suicide was an unfortunate fact of society, and it wasn't really talked about enough, at least in Reigen's opinion. He didn't particularly care for the old manchild though, honestly after he attacked his student and other children he lost all pity he may have held towards him.

He didn't voice this out loud, obviously.

Reigen, greatly mentally drained from everything that happened today, just sighed. "Why don't we just go back to sleep. We have a busy day ahead of us tomorrow."

Not wanting to annoy Reigen further, Pan agreed.

When Pan woke up the next day, she brushed her teeth and went to the main room. She found that Reigen was already up and cooking breakfast.

"TAKE THIS! SALT SPLASH!"

Or, at the very least, trying to.

"Morning Reigen, what're you making?" Pan asked. Reigen turned around, surprised.

"Ah, Pan you're awake! I'm just making some omelets, I think you'll like them." Reigen threw on some more salt for good measure. Pan was starting to doubt Reigen's cooking expertise.

Five minutes later, Reigen pulled out two plates and served each person one omelet. Pan took a bite and was instantly overwhelmed with the saltiness of the omelet.

"Too much salt?" Reigen asked, concerned.

Pan nodded, "Just a bit."

Reigen practically inhaled his breakfast, quickly cleaning up and straightening his tie. "Hurry up and finish, Pan. You said you wanted to help me with my work? Well don't you worry! Because I'm a master at anything supernatural!" He boldly declared.

Pan grew excited. She was eager to take her mind off of the events of the previous day. And what better way to do that than to witness new powers of a new world?
