Hermione was in the Gryffindor Common room, humming along to a song. She loved singing, especially when she had a good voice. Just then, Ginny burst into the room, and yelled, 'Hermione! Have you heard? There's a Muggle-song Singing competition at the end of the term!' 'What?' Hermione jumped off the crouch. 'Yeah! Are you going to enter?' Ginny asked.
'How about you?'
'Yes, I'm going to enter, but I'd dread to compete against you,'
Hermione thought for a moment. She hated to compete against her friends. That's when her eyes lit up.
'Ginny!'
'What?'
'I have a favourite song that needs two people to sing in it! We can sing as a duet!'
'That's a bloody brilliant idea!'
'Ginny!'
'Sorry! I'm too excited.'
True, there was a song that can sing as a duet. She wanted Ginny to hear it now, but she had to keep it a secret from others. 'Have you signed up yet?' she asked. Ginny jumped up, 'I'm going to do it right now!' Hermione watched as Ginny climbed out of the portrait and disappeared. She stood up and left to have a little chat with Professor Dumbledore.
Hermione faced the two gargoyles and felt stupid. She was so excited that she forgot that she didn't have the password.
'Chocolate frogs?' she tried.
No response.
'Pepper Imps? Toothflossing Stringmints? Jelly Slugs? Exploding Bonbons?'
The door opened.
Hermione was astonished. 'Exploding Bonbons? I was just kidding...'
She rushed inside and after two minutes, faced a Dumbledore munching on sweets.
'Miss Granger, what do you have in mind?' he asked. 'Well, I'm entering the singing competition with my friend, and I was thinking of bringing my phone, you know, a Muggle device here so that my friend can listen to the song. But when the devices are brought into Hogwarts, they stop working. So I was wondering if you can let us use magic to protect the MP3 players and stuff,' Hermione explained.
Dumbledore looked at Hermione over his glasses, 'First of all, Miss Granger, some professors are very angry that I started this competition...' Hermione hung her head. 'However,' Dumbledore smiled mischievously, 'Since I've broken some rules already, why not break some more?' Hermione beamed, 'Thanks, professor!' Then she rushed out of the office to meet Ginny.
[Hermione's POV]
Back at the Common Room, Ginny told me that she already filled in the information. 'The best part is,' she said, 'I don't need to write the name of the song, because Dumbledore wanted it to be a surprise!'
Harry walked over and planted a kiss on Ginny's forehead. 'You are entering the competition too?' Ginny responded by kissing him full on the lips, which earned a 'Get a room!' from Ron.
With Harry and Ginny busy snogging, I decided to go to the Owlery t0 send a letter to mum. I would like to start training with Ginny right away and I need my phone. So I grabbed a quill and composed a letter:
Dear Mum and Dad,Hi! It's your daughter, Hermione! There's a singing competition at school, so I need my MP3 player and my phone. Please charge them and send them to me you,Hermione'There!' I exclaimed proudly. I folded the letter up carefully and headed towards the Owlery. 'I'll go with you,' said Ron and he stood up. 'No need, Ron,' I replied. I have to admit, Ron and I are not as devoted as Harry and Ginny, mainly because we have been friends for the past seven years, not couples.
'It's alright, I wanted to get some fresh air anyways,' with that, Ron slung his arm around my shoulders and walked towards the Owlery. This made me uncomfortable, but I didn't brush his arm, couples always do that, right?
As we walked towards the Owlery, Ron asked me if he should enter the competition or not. 'I'm not good at singing,' he confessed, 'but I don't want to look like a wimp. Even Harry entered the competition!' I thought for a moment, then replied, 'If you're not a pro at singing, you can consider singing "Beat It" by Michael Jackson. You have to dance so that'll make up some points for your bad singing.' Ron grinned at me, 'Thanks 'Mione! I know that I can always count on you,'
I nodded and pushed open the Owlery door. There were hundreds of owls there, and I chose a barn owl. 'Take this to London, and don't rest if you don't need to. When you get the reply, fly straight to me, okay?' I asked the owl. It blinked twice and took off.
As we walked down the stairs, I asked Ron where we ought to go now. 'Let's go to the library so that I can finish homework,' suggested Ron. I burst out laughing. 'News flash! Ronald Weasley, a known homework hater, wants to do homework on Saturday instead of Sunday!' I laughed. Ron's eyes turned red but he explained, 'I wanted to finish homework quickly so that I can spend time with you on Sunday! I even told Harry to arrange the Quidditch practices to tonight.'
How thoughtful of him! I kissed him on the cheek and walked away, leaving him looking flustered.
Okay, so some of you might scream, 'Hey! Where's Draco?' (Braces for tomatoes thrown at me) But calm down folks! Draco will be in the next chap. Whether you like it or not, please review!
