Hermione woke up after an hour, trying to remember what happened. Ron was put into detention, Malfoy pressed her against the wall, a flash of green light... Wait, where's Malfoy? Hermione slowly stood up. Her head was spinning and she couldn't clear her mind. She was hit by a Killing Curse, but she should be dead already. What happened? Was she in heaven?
As Hermione staggered towards the Gryffindor Tower, two conclusions came up in her mind:
One. She was dead and she was in heaven.
Two. Malfoy's spell was not strong enough.
'Caput Draconis,' Hermione muttered as she reached the Fat Lady. The portrait swung open and revealed the Gryffindor Common Room.
'Hermione! Where have you been?' Ginny ran towards her and hugged her tightly. Okay, so this definitely isn't heaven, Hermione thought. So this leaves to conclusion two. Looks like she survived merely out of luck. She never knew that Malfoy's got the guts to Avada Kedavra her. She'd better warn her friends about it.
'Hermione? HERMIONE!' Ginny's yell shook Hermione out of her thoughts. 'Sorry Gin, I was just thinking. What did you just say?' Hermione asked. Ginny frowned. Hermione was acting a bit funny. 'When are we going to practice?' Ginny asked. 'As soon as I get my MP3 player and phone,' replied Hermione, sitting down. 'Why do we need them?' Ginny asked. Hermione explained that they needed to listen to the song and how her MP3 player works. Suddenly a thought came to her: does Malfoy know any Muggle songs?
Hermione woke up the next morning and rushed down to the Great Hall. She spotted Ron, Harry and Ginny at the Gryffindor table and walked over towards them. She heard Ginny asking Harry, 'Come on! Tell us which song you chose!' 'Sorry Gin, but that's a secret.' 'I'm your girlfriend!' 'Yeah, Harry. Spill the beans!' said Hermione as she sat down. Harry sighed and replied, 'I'm singing 'Eye of the Tiger' by Survivor.'
Ginny looked confused but Hermione shrieked so loud that students from other Houses stared at her. 'Oh my god! 'Eye of the Tiger'? That song's hot!' she cried. 'Er, can you sing it?' Ginny asked. Hermione nodded and took out her MP3 player. After scrolling down, she pressed the 'play' button and music blared out.
Rising up, back on the street
Took my time, took my chances
Went the distance now I'm back on my feet
Just a man and his will to survive
So many times, it happens too fast
You change your passion for glory
Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive
It's the eye of the tiger, it's the cream of the fight
Rising up to the challenge of our rival
As the last known survivor stalks the prey in the night
And has watching us all in the...
Eye of the tiger
Almost all eyes in the Great Hall was on Hermione as she sang the song. She took a deep breath and continued.
Face to face, out in the heat
Hangin' tough, stayin' hungry
They stack the odds 'till we take to the street
For we kill with the skill to survive
It's the eye of the tiger, it's the cream of the fight
Rising up to the challenge of our rival
As the last known survivor stalks the prey in the night
And has watching us all in the...
Eye of the tiger
Hermione took a deep breath and sang.
Risin' up, straight to the top
Had the guts, got the glory
Went the distance, now I'm not gonna stop
Just a man and his will to survive
It's the eye of the tiger, it's the cream of the fight
Rising up to the challenge of our rival
As the last known survivor stalks the prey in the night
And has watching us all in the...
Eye of the tiger
The eye of the tiger
The eye of the tiger
The eye of the tiger
The eye of the tiger
...
As Hermione finished the last few lines of the song, her friends clapped loudly. Soon, the whole Gryffindor House applauded. There were even a few cheers coming from Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. Hermione turned around and caught Malfoy staring at her with a calculating look on his face. Then he stood up and left the Great Hall. Hermione decided to find out what he's up to so she followed him.
Hermione soon came to the lake and stopped. Malfoy was nowhere to be found. 'Where was him?' she pondered. She was about to turn around when she heard a voice, 'Don't move.' Hermione froze. She was on the edge of the lake, with a murderous ex-Death Eater next to her, and her friends were all in the Great Hall. Brilliant. 'What do you want, Malfoy?' sighed Hermione. 'I assume that's what you would ask,' replied Malfoy. Hermione was puzzled. What did he mean? 'Aren't you surprised that you didn't die?' asked Malfoy. 'That's because you couldn't do the Unforgiven Curse properly,' snarled Hermione. Hermione could almost feel Malfoy smirking. 'No. As a Death Eater, you must go through a series of tasks to be one. You have to perform the Unforgivable Curses on a victim,' he paused and said, 'I pointed my wand somewhere near your neck. You fainted after I said the curse.' Hermione felt her cheeks reddening. So she was so frightened that she fainted? 'I thought that all Gryffindors were brave? We do have an exception now,' Malfoy's voice was dripped with malice.
Hermione felt her eyes prickling with tears. 'Why don't you just kill me now?' she whispered. She felt Malfoy stiffen next to her. 'No. I'll be sent to Azkaban after all my efforts trying to stay out of it,' he muttered, but Hermione could hear that he was lying. She heard him leave, and when the footsteps slowly faded away, Hermione was not so brave as she was before, and she didn't know if she could ever be brave again.
