Everyone had read the emails and letter by the next day. By posting this, it helped them reach their fundraising goal. The money would go to the apple orchard where Jade broke her hand. The place Aaron and Jade supposedly came to hang out all summer.

It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. People had started to turn on the Mitchells. They interrupted the emails as the family not caring for their son. Not even Eric and Deborah were spared.

It was the night of homecoming. The entire court was dismissed for the day to get ready. Jade hung out with Katie the entire day. They went and got their hair and nails done. Katie got purple lilac fake nails since they matched her dress, and Jade got plain white.

The pre-game show started at around seven. It started with the band playing their pre-game set. It was followed by the choir singing a set of songs. They sang the national anthem, the school's alma mater, and the prayer song they chose. It was then time for the homecoming court. The Colorguard and cheerleaders walked onto the field. The band started to play the coordination music. Katie and Jade locked arms as the court got in line.

"Just smile and ignore the haters," Jade whispered.

"I'll try," Katie whispered. The order was by grade level, so the freshmen went first. The sophomores followed after. Abbey hadn't made eye contact with Jade all day. Soon the seniors started to go.

Jade and Katie walked under the archway. The announcer went on about their families and dreams. No one was making loud comments about Katie being an awful sister. Jade felt like she should be happier than she was. Yet, she couldn't. If it was because of Abbey's threat or her lies she couldn't tell.

They walked out from under the archway. There was only one pair after them. Once they were done, the principal walked onto the field. "Now, for your homecoming king and queen," he declared. He opened an envelope. "Katie Mitchell and Jade Hansen."

The audience was quiet as their queens were crowned. "What?" someone yelled. "She's a fraud!"

It took Jade a moment to realize they weren't addressing her. The audience started to boo Katie off the field. "Your brother's death is your fault," someone screamed. Both girls were caught like deers in headlights. Jade knew there was only one way to save the day, and she didn't wanna do it.

Jade released Katie's arm. Jade walked over to the principal. She took the microphone from him. "Attention," Jade said. "This was all a lie. Aaron and I were never friends."
