A/N: I have to apologise in advance for the Suits reference, but I couldn't help it. Especially when I realised that today (the 7th of August) is 2 years since the episode that the reference came from was released. Honestly can't believe that it's been 2 years already! Darvey were another pairing who didn't open their eyes for yeeeeeaaaarrrrsss and it was torture! But at least with that show, (SPOILER ALERT) we did get a whole season of them together and they got married in a spur of the moment ceremony in the last episode. Who knows if we're ever going to see Adrien and Marinette together. I do think that there will be a reveal at some point, probs after defeating Hawkmoth, but that doesn't mean that we'll see them in a relationship, we might just see the initial get together moment. But who knows, my brain has been running through a million different ways it could happen, but most of them forget that it's an animated show that's remotely aimed at kids! In lots of our defence though, we were the initial target audience age when it was released but have now grown up and still want to find out what's going to happen to the most infuriating pairing ever!
Oh crap, I did not realised I'd written that much in this note so I'll let you read the actual chapter now!
Chapter 14
*Marinette's POV*
"MARINETTE! WAKE UP!"
I don't know what's happening. I'm really disorientated. There's an arm draped around me but I'm in my own bed in my own room. Then yesterday's events came rushing back to me. Shadowmoth. Gabriel Agreste. Adrien, the owner of the arm that was currently laying across my middle. His head was nuzzled into my neck as he slept, the rhythmic up and down of his chest in sync with his breathing bringing me back to the real world, only to be startled by my mum's loud call to wake up. I shot up, realising the time, my sudden movement jolting Adrien awake.
"Hey, what's happening?" he asked a little groggily, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes as he also sat up next to me, propping himself up against the wall behind us.
"We're late is what's happening! We have to go to school!" I exclaimed, moving towards the ladder. I stopped in my tracks once I was standing on the ladder, noticing that Adrien hadn't moved. He had a bewildered look in his eyes, one that bordered on fear. "Hey it's ok. We spoke about this. No one knows and we have to go to school to keep up appearances."
"It's not about people finding out. I just realised that I have to go talk to my father as Adrien. I didn't think about it until now because I had already seen him as Cat Noir, but he doesn't know that he's me," he said. I climbed back onto the bed and sat next to him with my legs crossed. I reached over and placed my hand on his clasped ones.
"It's ok. We'll go after school. And I'll be there if you want me to. Don't let him keep running your life, he doesn't deserve the headspace," I answered, my tone turning softer. He looked up at me and straight into my eyes.
"Thanks. You're right. If I keep letting him take over my head, he'll never leave. But I do think that I'll need to talk to someone who can help me move past this properly so I can focus on our future."
"Our future?"
"Yes, our future." His face broke out into a smile as he enclosed my right hand in his, bringing the ring to his lips. "You know we're going to be together forever, right?" His eyes sparkled when he saw my amused face, knowing that I'd understood the reference.
"Well not if that's how you're going to ask me!"
"It doesn't matter how I ask you."
"Why not?"
"Because we both know that however I ask, it will not top my last proposal!"
I burst out laughing, slapping his arm playfully. He really is an idiot.
"So we're engaged then?" I retorted, carrying on the Suits reference, despite his slight sway.
"Well...erm...no. Not yet. We're still a little young and I have major family drama that I need to work through."
"That you do. And like I said before, I'll be right by your side. I'm not going anywhere." I involuntarily leaned forward a little as if being pulled by a magnetic field.
"I really can't thank you enough for that. I truly love you so much. With my whole being." He also leant a little closer, feeling the pull between us.
"I love you too. With my whole being." We were incredibly close now.
"You and me against the world, M'lady." With that, I closed the gap between us, placing a full on kiss on Adrien's lips.
"MARINETTE! SCHOOL!" My mum shouted, yet again, shattering the moment. I broke the kiss, sighing in frustration.
"Damn, I forgot about that," I whispered under my breath. Adrien let out a laugh and moved over to the ladder, pulling my arm with him.
"Come on. You were right earlier. Plus normal life will help in all the supervillian craziness," he said. I groaned and reluctantly moved towards him.
"Shame, I was about to say that your original position was right. I want to carry on kissing you all day."
"Oh you have no idea how much I want to finish what you just started!"
His eyes clouded over for a second, pulling my face towards his quickly, placing a not so chaste kiss on my lips, only to break away 2 seconds later. I was left a little dazzled as he started to climb down the ladder.
"That's all you get for now. We really can't be late. Well not later than your normal late," he quipped as he reached the floor. I gasped at his quick witted comment, grabbing a pillow from my bed and throwing it at him. He dodged in a very cat-like fashion, laughing as he ran to the bathroom.
"Very funny Adrien. Very Funny."
*Adrien's POV*
At school...
It felt as if everybody's eyes were on me. But they weren't. No one knew a thing but I was still being paranoid. In fact if there was anyone staring, it was in disdain at my hand clasped tightly around Marinette's.
We were a tiny bit late, but that was normal for Marinette, meaning that no one thought anything of it. Class hadn;t started yet as we sat down, so I spun on my seat to face Marinette, handing her the cup of coffee that we had been sharing as we only had time to grab one from her parents bakery. She took it in both of her hands and gulped it down, grimacing at the heat.
"What's up with the two of you?" Alya asked. "Last week both of you were radiating happiness but today something's off."
"Oh it's nothing. We've just had a very long and eventful weekend," Marinette replied, looking into my eyes, not knowing whether we should tell our best friends the complete truth.
"Long and eventful huh. I wonder what that's all about," Nino winked. Alya slapped him on the arm, but looked very pointedly at Marinette who was sporting a very confused look. Then it clicked for her.
"Not because of that you idiots!" She exclaimed in a loud whisper before reconsidering her words and looking at me for confirmation. I gave her a tiny nod and she continued. "Well yes that. But that's not what we were talking about." She rolled her eyes as she looked at Alya and Nino's frozen faces. Alya's was the first to break.
"Well what was it about then?" she asked.
My hand slowly extended up to where Mari's was on her desk, taking it in mine and squeezing it, worlessly telling her what I was about to do.
'Erm.. Well we investigated my fathers recent odd behaviour of being less strict with me and found that it was because our relationship was reminding him of his with my mum. But that wasn't all. We then found a secret room holding my very much alive but in a magical coma mother in a glass coffin that was meant to be preserving her and then discovered that that was my father's motivation to terrorise the city as Hawk/Shadowmoth in order to get Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculous to wish her back to life because he thought she was dead." I blurted to them in a low whisper, making sure no one else heard.
"WHAT!" Both Alya and Nino exclaimed in unison, causing the entire room to go silent and Ms Bustier to stop in her tracks as she entered the room.
"Well you four can continue that conversion later. I don't think Marinette and Adrien will have enough time to finish telling Alya and Nino enough of whatever story elicited that reaction right now," Ms Bustier said as she started to move towards her desk.
"Yes Ms Bustier," Marinette and I replied, stifling giggles as Alya and Nino were still too shocked to say anything.
Lunch…
"Ok, full story now," Alya demanded as she slammed her lunch tray down on the table in front of me and Marinette, stopping our conversation in its tracks.
"Let's wait for Nino for a second and then we'll tell you both," I said, watching Nino grab his food and rush over to our table in the back corner of the room.
"I'm here. I hope you didn't start without me," he said breathlessly.
"We didn't don't worry," Mari replied before turning towards me. "I think you should tell them the majority. I'll chime in if you miss anything."
"Sounds good. This is the first time I've told the whole story, as we didn't tell your parents everything, so I may need some help getting through some parts," I said to her. She nodded and squeezed my hand in support, giving me the push to turn towards our friends and tell them the entire story right from when Mari walked in my door on Saturday morning, of course skipping the private moments even though I'm 99% sure Marinette will tell Alya everything at a later date! It took nearly the whole lunch hour but at the end Alya and Nino looked as shook as I still felt.
"That's crazy dude. No wonder you were both exhausted this morning. You've both had one hell of a weekend," Nino exclaimed, leaning back onto his chair and rubbing his head as if he was struggling to make sense of everything I'd said.
"I'm so sorry Adrien," Alya said. "But honestly I'm not surprised."
Nino and Marinette's heads whipped towards Alya, both of them giving her a death stare until she continued.
"Hear me out a second. It makes so much sense that Gabriel Agrreste is Hawkmoth. Think about it, he never hardly ever leaves the city despite being a world renowned fashion designer, but when he does leave, Hawkmoth is in the same place. New York, Shanghai, etc. And not to mention the amount of akumatisations that he's been the cause of, Hearthunter when he caused the massive argument between Chloe's parents because they couldn't get on while wearing that hideous cloak thing, Style Queen both times and many more."
"I agree Alya. The more I think about it, the more sense it makes to me. It's a hard pill to swallow in reality but it makes complete sense and I have no idea why I didn't see it sooner. But then again I've been completely blind for years when it comes to the identity of the love of my life and my true feelings for Marinette so I'm not too surprised that I had no inkling!" I said, wrapping my arm around Marinette's shoulders.
"That's very true!" Mari agreed. "But you're not completely to blame,I was just as blind as you, on both fronts. I idolised Gabriel Agreste as a fashion designer but I'm also Ladybug and the guardian which meant that I should have paid more attention to his dodgy behaviour. It had not crossed my mind that Gabriel could be our archnemesis."
Nino and Alya were now looking at us with relief, as if it was finally hitting them that the city's tormentor was gone. Life would be able to return back to normal. For them anyway. For me, nothing will ever be normal. My dad is evil and my mum is actually alive. Everytime I think about my messed up family life, I feel a gaping hole inside me, threatening to swallow me in confusion and anger. But then I look over at my beautiful girlfriend, her smile lighting up her radiant face, and the hole closes, making me feel complete again. I didn't think soul mates were real until I met and accepted mine. Marinette really is my everything. However I still don't think that I'd terrorise a city to bring her back from the dead, she wouldn't want that and I wouldn't want her to do that for me either.
And that's how I know that I am not my father.
Later that afternoon...
*Marinette's POV*
We came home from school to find a ginormous selection of baked goods on our kitchen table, my parents' way of providing Adrien with comfort. As soon as we walked in the door, completely ready to crash on the sofa until 5pm, when Mr Bourgeois said we could go over to where Adrien's father is being held, and spotted the feast, Adrien's eyes lit up in a way that I'd only seen the night on the roof. Both of us were starving after the day we'd had, the bombardment of questions from Alya and Nino and the lingering shock of our relationship from our classmates draining us, mentally and physically.
The rest of the afternoon was spent resting, completing a few homework tasks and getting mentally prepared to see Mr Agreste as Adrien and Marinette rather than Cat Noir and Ladybug. Before we knew it, it was 5pm and time for us to transform and leave. We had decided that it would be better to voyage straight to Mr Bourgeois' office rather than walking as civilians or running across the rooftops as superheroes. So, 30 seconds after leaving my bedroom, the two of us were standing in the Mayor's office, ready to detransform and be led to where Adiren's father was being held. We were sitting in the large chairs opposite Mr Bourgeois' desk when he walked in, carrying a huge stack of papers and startling at us already being there.
"Ah, Adrien and Marinette. Sorry, if I seem a bit flustered but the city's largest foe has just been brought in and you would not believe the amount of paperwork and procedure we have to get through before Friday's press conference. But you're not here about that. Give me a minute and I will take you to him," he said before dropping the papers on his desk and filing a few of the folders on the top away in the cabinets behind the desk.
A few minutes later, he turned towards us and gestured to follow him. He led us out of the office and all the way to the basement of the building where we were confronted by some fairly extreme security measures.
"I'm sorry about this but we are holding a supervillain and his assistant. Even though they don't have the source of their powers, we can't risk anything," the Mayor explained as we went through the metal detectors and left behind bags, jewelry, belts and electronics, including our Miraculous, making both of us fairly uncomfortable as we remembered the last time we took them off. We then carried on walking down multiple dark corridors, taking us closer to Gabriel Agreste by the minute. I could feel Adrien get more and more nervous the closer we got so I grabbed his hand and squeezed it, silently reminding him that I'm here. He squeezed back in acknowledgement, but then we stopped and his grip suddenly tightened, squishing all my fingers together.
"Here we are. You won't have too long with him and the conversation will be monitored from the next room. I'm going to go to that room now and when you're ready to see your father, just tell the guard and he'll open the door for you. When you're ready to leave just say do and we'll let the door guard know. Just a warning, he is handcuffed to the table and his legs are shackled. We really can't risk an escape," Mayor Bourgeois explained. We nodded and he entered the monitoring room. Adrien took a deep breath next to me and made a movement towards the door, pulling me along with him. But before he could go into the room, I pulled him back to face me.
"Hang on a second. I think this should be something you do yourself. If I'm there he'll be on guard and you won't get anything out of this visit. I'm still here, but I'll be in the next room with Mr Bourgeois," I said, now holding both of Adriens hands in front of me.
"You're right, I do need to do this by myself. But I also need you close so stay in that room and please don't go anywhere," he replied, his eyes pleading with me a little.
"Of course I won't. And I'll be right here when you come out." I stood on my tiptoes and placed a quick peck on his lips and then let go of his hands. He turned towards the door and nodded to the guard who went to unlock the door.
"Oh and remember, we said we wouldn't tell him everything. I don't think he'll take it very well if he finds out half of his goal was right under his nose the whole time," I called out, trying to talk a little cryptically for the sake of the multiple guards in the corridor who can't know our secret identities.
Adrien turned back towards me and nodded, taking a deep breath before entering the room that held his father.
A/N: SEASON 4 SPOILER ALERT! LUKA KNOWS! AHHHHH I watched Wishmaker this morning and my mind exploded and still hasn't gone back to normal! That episode was insane and I loved it soooo much. Luka has to now know that Adrien and Marinette are made for each other. It was like Kagami telling Marinette that they were made for each other just with no words. I have so many theories running through my head that I won't write hear as it would be very long! But I'm so excited for more episodes and I really hope that Mega Leech next week won't be the last English one for now! I need my early Saturday morning Miraculous fix!
