Ravi walked down the sterile hallway with the nurse. It was his turn to visit Lou after the accident. She had slipped during a hike and messed up her leg so badly that an ambulance had to come to the camp and take her to the town hospital. Emma rode in the ambulance with her, of course. All of the campers were so worried that most of them barely said a word for the rest of the day of her accident. But when news came that Lou was okay and she only needed to stay in the hospital a few days for a minor surgery, everyone was overjoyed. Gladys was even cool enough to let off-duty counselors drive into town with the camp van to visit Lou one at a time.

"Room 304," the nurse said brightly. The nurse put his hand on the handle but paused before pressing it open. "She might be a little out of it from the surgery. We had to give her painkillers, but we're monitoring her. Your friend is a ray of sunshine. All the nurses love her."

"That's Lou. And all the campers love her too," Ravi said with a nod and a smile. He held up the box of cards and paper flowers in his arms. "They sent these."

"So sweet," the nurse cooed. "Alright. If you need anything, there's a labeled button near her bed. Okay?"

"Thank you."

The nurse pushed open the door and watched Ravi walk into the room. He gave him a thumbs up and then shut the door. Ravi glanced around the room. He knew Emma had been there because it was packed full of balloons and teddy bears from the hospital gift shop. His eyes settled on Lou, who was staring out the window as she lay in bed. She was dressed in a hospital gown, but she had her Woodchuck hoodie on as well.

"Good afternoon, Lou," he greeted her as approached her bed.

Lou lazily turned her head toward him. Her eyes widened slightly as she grinned. "Whoa," she drawled.

Ravi smiled as he glanced down at the box of cards in his hands. He lifted up one that was covered in glitter and chuckled, "Whoa is right! The campers did an amazing job with the Get Well Soon cards. Very impressive."

Lou slowly scootched herself up on the bed. She groaned slightly, causing Ravi to frown. He quickly sat the box on the ground and then placed his hand gently on her shoulder.

"Are you okay? Should I get the nurse?"

Lou leaned her head against his hand on her shoulder. She chuckled and then leaned away to rest her head against her pillow. She gave him a starry-eyed look. "I'm better now, handsome."

"Handsome?" he asked, giving her an amused but confused look.

She sloppily patted his face and giggled, "You're so pretty."

Ravi chuckled as he gently held her hands and moved them away from his face. He raised his eyebrow at her and said, "Those must be some painkillers."

"You're so funny," she giggled until it turned into a snort. She gasped as her eyes widened. "Do you hear Snorty?" She looked around excitedly. "Is my pet pig here?"

"No," Ravi chuckled, shaking his head and letting go of her hands. He turned to search the room. He spotted a chair in the corner. "But what I do have here are some lovely cards." He went over and moved the chair so he could sit beside her bed. He put the box of cards in his lap. "Shall I read you your cards?"

He waited for a reply, but she just stared at him with a lazy smile on her face. The television in her room was playing some random soap opera and the air conditioning was blasting loudly. The room smelled like cleaning supplies and gift shop flowers.

"Cards, Lou?" he asked again.

Lou shifted onto her side so that she faced him more fully. Her hair was a little wild and resting on her shoulder. She grinned and said, "I could just stare at your pretty face all day."

Ravi raised his eyebrows in surprise. He felt his face get hot as he stammered, "Um, so you don't want me to read the cards?"

"Why do you look so surprised? Isn't it obvious?" She giggled and turned away.

Ravi wasn't sure what to do. Obviously the painkillers were making his friend loopy. He wondered if he should come back at another time, but he had already traded off-duty time slots with Stephan because he couldn't wait to see her. She was one of his closest friends at camp and it had been devastating for him to see her taken away in the ambulance the other day. It was one thing to hear that she was okay, but he needed to see for himself. He just hadn't expected her to be grinning at him with her eyes foggy.

"I can hear you thinking," Lou whisper-shouted. She tilted her head to look over at him. "You worry so much. You're like an old man… trapped in an adorable body." She giggled and pointed at one of the teddy bears. "That bear winked at me!"

Ravi couldn't help but let out a light laugh. He looked over to the pushcart on the other side of her bed. There was a large, see-through cup with ice and water in it as well as a tray of food. On the tray were an uneaten sandwich, an apple, and an empty plastic container.

"I see you haven't eaten your lunch," Ravi said as he pointed toward the tray. "You should, Lou. It will help you feel better. We all want a speedy recovery for our favorite counselor."

Lou shifted again so that she faced him. She fluttered her lashes at him and gave him a flirty smile. "You're my favorite counselor."

Ravi gave her a bashful look as he shifted his gaze to the side so as not to look her in the eye. He gave a nervous chuckle and said, "That's sweet. Um… Speaking of sweet, the nurse gave you a glowing review! He said, and I quote, that you are a 'ray of sunshine.' And I, of course, couldn't agree more."

Lou didn't respond or make any indication that she had heard what Ravi had said. She stared at him like he was a shiny object. She twirled the ends of her messy hair.

"Um, so lunch? Do you want me to hand you your tray?" He offered as he began to stand up.

"No, no," Lou said, waving her hand for him to sit back down. She scrunched her nose. "I don't want that stuff."

"Oh." Ravi settled back down in his seat. He glanced at the tray and frowned. "Should I get you something more appetizing from the hospital cafeteria?"

"Mmm mmm," she said, shaking her head no. "I ate my Jell-O. It was good." She gave him a wicked grin that made his heart do a summersault in his chest. She leaned forward and whispered, "I know a way you can guess the flavor…"

Ravi felt like someone had taken a match and lit him on fire. If he didn't get her meaning, she made it clear by the way she started puckering her lips and making kissy noises in his direction. He glanced at the clock on the wall. He wondered how long it would be before the medicine wore off. He could ask the nurse and then go wait in the lobby until she was back to normal.

"You're thinking again," Lou said in a sing-song voice. "Stop thinking, Ravi. I like you. Now kiss me!" She puckered her lips at him again and then burst into giggles.

"I like you, too. But we don't like each other in that way," he said in a tone as if he were explaining something to a little kid. "You are on painkillers right now. You aren't thinking clearly."

"I'm thinking fine!" Lou pouted and gave him a light glare. She pointed at a teddy bear. "The bear agrees that I'm thinking fine!" She played with the stings of her hoodie and fussed, "You're so mean. I hurt myself and get stuck in the hospital and I'm so far from my Camp Kikiwaka. And you won't even kiss me to make me feel better."

Ravi frowned. She still sounded loopy, but also genuinely upset. He reached out to place his hand on her bed. "I know you miss camp. And I do want you to feel better." He reached for the box of cards and picked out a few. He placed them on her lap and said, "Everyone wants you to feel better."

"Is it the bear?" Lou asked with a frown. "Do you like the bear better than me? Cause you're both Grizzlies?"

"No, of course not. That bear means nothing to me…" Ravi winced at how ridiculous he sounded.

Lou's gaze moved from Ravi to the cards. She slowly picked one up and admired the glittery decoration. She smiled. "Pretty!" She picked up the next card and pointed at the picture of a Woodchuck that Zuri had drawn. She giggled happily.

Ravi smiled as he watched Lou's reaction to the cards. Once she was done with those, he added more cards and paper flowers to her lap until they had gone through the entire box. By then, Lou was yawning. She collected her cards as best as she could and Ravi helped her put them back in the box.

"Thanks, Ravi," she said sweetly. Her eyes were a little less foggy and her grin was less dopey.

"No problem," he replied, gently patting her hand. "I hope that made you a little less homesick for camp. And don't worry, you'll be out of here in no time."

"It did make me feel better," she said with a nod. She gave him an innocent look. "Can we make out now?"

Ravi sighed. He should've known that Loopy Lou would be as adamant as Normal Lou. His friend could be pushy and bossy, but that was part of her personality. It's what made her so organized and willing to take the lead when people needed a leader.

He spoke slowly, "I will kiss you…"

"Yeehaw!" Lou cheered.

She leaned towards him with her lips puckered and her eyes squeezed shut.

"...When you're out of the hospital and not on meds," he continued. He figured that was fair. He knew Lou wouldn't be begging to kiss him once she was back to normal. But he also didn't want to hurt her feelings while she was in this vulnerable state.

"Oh...okay," she said in a quiet, saddened tone.

She slumped in her bed and downcast her eyes. It made Ravi's heart ache. He glanced at the clock. He wanted to leave her to rest and then come back in a few hours to make sure she ate. He returned his gaze to her. She looked so pretty, even with her messy hair and wrinkled hospital gown. But then again, he had always thought that she was pretty.

"You should rest. But I'll be back," he said as he stood up from his chair beside her bed. His heartbeat quickened. He hoped when she was back to normal that she wouldn't punch him for this. He said, "See you in a little while," and then tucked her hair behind her ear and pressed a soft kiss on her forehead.

"Yes! Take that bear! He kissed me!" Lou squealed and clutched her hands to her heart. She relaxed into her pillows and let out a content sigh. "I feel so much better now."

Ravi couldn't help but feel flattered. He gave her a small wave and then rushed out of the hospital room. As he walked toward the lobby, he hoped that when Lou was back to normal, instead of punching him, she would remind him of his offer to kiss her.
