Bingo Prompt #N 37
We're taking shelter during a big storm and you're really close to me and I'm just going to casually move closer and cuddle with you...
Ginny was huddled on the sofa under a blanket waiting for Harry to get back home from work. She could hear the rain pounding mercilessly on the roof of their flat. Occasionally a flash of lightening would momentarily brighten the room followed by a clap of thunder. It almost seemed as if the whole building was shaking. It was worse in the bedroom, which is why she was sitting in the living room attempting to read a book by wand light.
"Ginny, I scawrd." Little Teddy was spending the night and it seemed that the storm had finally awoken him.
"Oh, I'm sorry, love. Let me set up a place for you on the sofa." Ginny gave him a big hug and kiss to comfort him and then set up with a tiny nest of pillows and blankets on one end of the sofa. She assumed he would quickly fall back asleep because they had had a busy day at the park and running errands. "Would you like a glass of water?" The boy silently nodded. After retrieving the water from the kitchen, she set him up in his nest and went back to staring at her book.
The rain and the lightening and the thunder didn't let up. Several minutes later she noticed it. Teddy surreptitiously creeping closer and closer to her. She smiled and shook her head at the little scamp's movements. "Teddy, do you want to come over here and snuggle with me and chat?"
"YES!" he agreed while launching himself at Ginny.
She enveloped him in her arms and kissed the top of his head. "There's no need to be scared of the storm." She patted his back rhythmically. "I know the storm is loud, but we are safe in here."
Teddy again nodded wordlessly.
Ginny raised her head to stare down at him. "Why do I get the feeling you don't believe me?" she asked suspiciously.
"It nod dat. I twust you. Bud da noise huwt my eaws."
"I know, love. Let's cuddle together and we'll be safe together," she assured him.
The boy nodded and snuggled up closer against Ginny. In what seemed like no time at all, she heard his slow even breathing indicating he'd fallen back asleep. Not wanting to awaken the sleeping child, she carefully twisted her body so that her legs were splayed long ways on the sofa. She scooched down on the sofa until her head could rest on the arm using it as a makeshift pillow. Unable to move too much without disturbing Teddy, Ginny laid there thinking about the fun they'd had that day and what it would be like to have children of her own. She fell asleep dreaming about black-haired little boys and red-haired little girls.
Hours later, Harry finally arrived home to see his two most favorite people in the world ensconced in what appeared to be a mountain of blankets and pillows on the sofa. All he could actually see what half of Ginny's face and the very top of Teddy's turquoise-haired head. Why are they sleeping out here instead of their beds? Perhaps the storm? Was it that bad here? Whatever the reason, Harry wasn't about to leave them in here by themselves so he quietly summoned a couple more blankets and pillows from the bedroom and made himself a pallet on the floor and promptly fell asleep.
AN: I hope you like it! I have had a lot of fun writing the kids into these prompts. And yes, I cannot seem to take the prompt too literally or in too obvious of a direction. I want it to be different and interesting. Fingers crossed that I have achieved that goal. lol
