What's this. A new chapter only hours after the first one? I must be pretty productive.

Jk. Actually have eight chapters already written. I just have to go back over them and make them, you know, Decent. Which takes a bit.

Not to mention that it took a solid thirty minutes to write ozpins speech here since I forgot what he said if he said more than two lines. And the rooster teeth website stops working if I exit my internet browser to write.

Also, I'm surprised to see so many people have read this already. I expected maybe a dozen or something but we got about fifty. We even got a follower and favorite too. Thanks by the way. That made my day.

Anyway on with the story.

Ruby. As Blake found out. Could be very talkative when it came to things she liked. All it took was one question about what the red and white holster on her back was and she had gone from forcing herself to speak to not letting Blake get a word in edgewise.

Blake didn't know why she hadn't just abandoned her after humiliating the Schnee. With that goal done there was no reason to stay behind. Maybe it was pity or just curiosity on how a person could make a schnee angry that fast. But here they were. Walking together next to beacon's fountain while ruby awed over Blake's weapons.

"Did you make this?" Asked ruby. Awe in her voice as she ran her hand along the side of its blade.

"No. I had someone else design and build it for me" it wasn't as if she had the time to make her own, Besides. The white fang had more than a few experienced craftsmen. And she had been pleased with the result, although it did serve as a reminder of where she came every time she looked at it.

Ruby nodded slightly. Her eyes glued to it as if she had just been given the toy she always wanted and wanted to make sure it didn't disappear

"They did a really good job." Complimented ruby. Grabbing it by the handle and making a pretty impractical pose with it. It looked impressive but anyone with experience would have instantly seen through it.

"You know. I never thought I'd see someone use a scythe in combat" why would she. A scythe was what you used to cut down wheat not hordes of Grimm, or the robots the schnee dust company use.

"I mean, I was taught how to use it, and my uncle used one as well so I had a good teacher." Ruby sheepishly gave back the katana and blake sheathed the weapon. And ruby was back to being the shy girl who had been ragged on by the Schnee.

"Your uncle?"

"Yeah. He has a scythe which turns into a shotgun too. And a sword as well!" And just like that ruby was back to being talkative. It was like flicking a switch between shy ruby and excited ruby.

"Three weapons in one?" asked Blake. More for Ruby's sake than genuine curiosity. Gambol shroud was technically a three in one as well. But such a thing was rare enough that it warranted a question.

"Maybe it's not just for killing Grimm," a small part of her mind told her and she frowned in response. Huntsmen we're trained to fight Grimm. And usually only went after them. But the odd huntsmen had gone after the white fang. And she was glad she never had to figure out whether or not she could win in a fight against one.

Ruby noticed her reaction and paused. Her silver eyes prying into Blake's own dark yellow eyes.

"Is something wrong?"

Blake shook her head and quickly brought up an excuse "no. I was just wondering when we were supposed to go to the announcement today"

Ruby's eyes widened comically and Blake congratulated herself on her quick thinking, "oh no. I completely forgot!"

"We still have time if we hurry" Suggested Blake and ruby nodded furiously.

"Come on," Said ruby urgently looking frantically back towards the academy. Which suddenly seemed much farther away now that they had a time limit. And before Blake could even nod in acknowledgment ruby was gone in a whirl of rose petals. leaving Blake to contemplate what had just happened

What a weird start to life at the academy.

...

Ruby didn't stop running until she was inside the auditorium. Where crowds of people were already waiting for the headmaster's speech.

She breathes a sigh of relief. So she wouldn't get in trouble on the first day. What a relief.

"We made it in ti-" started ruby. Turning around and Expecting to see Blake behind her. Instead, it was just a couple of other random students trickling in behind her. Looking as nervous as she had a couple of moments before.

She groaned. Finally, someone who was cool and likes her, and she had abandoned them so quickly. If she hadn't lost track of time she wouldn't have had to rush in the first time. She needed to get better at that. Before she actually got in trouble.

"Now I can't even introduce them to yang" she muttered to herself... speaking of yang.

She stood on her toes and looked through the massive crowd of students dressed in a wide array of colors. Looking for her over the crowds of people.

It didn't take long at all. Yang was tall and her bright yellow hair stood out even with such a colorful crowd. And ruby did her best to slip through the crowd without causing another accident.

She was behind yang sooner than she expected and she hissed out a "there you are"

Yang didn't let out a noise but she turned around quickly and gave ruby a look of surprise. And then irritation, a look which yang copied as best she could. It came surprisingly easy as that was one of a handful of emotions she was feeling at the moment.

"What was that for?" Questioned yang, brushing her long hair over her shoulder.

"What was that for?" Repeated ruby, "that was for pushing me into someone and causing me to blow up!"

Yang blinked at her before leaning in with a smile beginning to form on her lips "are you being sarcastic? Has my little sister finally grown up?

"No" cried ruby. More than a little annoyed "Well, Yes. But also no! when you pushed me I knocked over all of that girl's clothes and then she started yelling at me while shaking a vial of dust in my face, which was really, really annoying. And then the dust got in my nose and then I sneezed and then she got even more mad and was yelling at me and"

"You," said the same voice that had been yelling at her earlier causing ruby to let out a yelp and bury herself in yangs side.

"You nearly blew us off the side of the cliff!" Snarled Weiss. Where on earth had she come from? Why hadn't yang warned her, was this another part of her plan?

Yang looked down at ruby with a look of confusion and concern. It didn't look like the face of someone who was trying to get their little sister a new friend but ruby didn't trust her right now.

"It was an accident." Groaned ruby. Turning to face Weiss. Who was now holding a piece of paper in her face? So close ruby had to squint to make it out.

"Wh-What?" Asked ruby confused.

"You said it was an accident right?" Snapped Weiss and Ruby nodded. Had she finally seen reason?

Nope.

"Dust for dummies. It sounds like the perfect book. Now read this and then never speak to me again" she shoved the book into Ruby's hand for emphasis and ruby flinched back into yang.

Yang sighed and decided now was the time for an intervention. She might want ruby to make friends at beacon but she wasn't going to just watch and let her get intimidated by this girl, "Look. It sounds like you two just got off on the wrong foot. Maybe you two could start over?"

Ruby looked up at yang with a pleading look but yang simply looked back at her with a confident smile.

Ruby sighed in resignation and then turned back to Weiss and offered a hand for her to shake. Still, half-hidden behind yang.

"I'd like to start over" offered ruby nervously. "I really didn't mean to knock your stuff over."

Weiss looked at the hand as if it had just eaten her dog.

"You, want to be friends, with me?"

Well, that was not exactly what she had said but she nodded anyway. If it would stop her from yelling at her.

Weiss scoffed and said in a mocking tone "sure. We can braid each other's hair and talk about cute boys like." She looked around for an example before finally choosing some blonde guy ruby was sure she had seen vomiting during their ride to beacon " cute, blonde, and scraggly over there"

"Really?" Asked ruby. Daring to hope that this could happen and that maybe she could turn an enemy into a friend.

Weiss looked at her with a mix of disgust and disbelief before simply saying "no." Causing Ruby's chin to fall to her chest.

Yang sighed and stepped in again "look. I don't mean to be rude but."

She didn't get to finish whatever she was about to say because headmaster Ozpin tapped on his microphone and cleared his throat to grab everyone's attention

Quickly the entire room went silent. And the headmaster began to speak.

"I'll keep this brief" the headmaster pushed his glasses up on the bridge of his nose "each of you came here in search of knowledge, to hone your craft and attain new skills. When you have finished. You plan to dedicate your life to the protection of the people. But when I look amongst you. All I see is a waste of energy. In need of purpose, and direction."

There was a noticeable negative reaction from the crowd but the headmaster pressed on undisturbed.

"You assume knowledge will free you of this. But at your time in this school. You will find that knowledge can only take you so far. It is up to you to take the first step."

With that, the headmaster nodded once at his students. And then walked off the stage as miss Glynda (ruby remembered her as the lady who had helped her fight off Torchwick) continued on with other announcements.

"Huh," said yang with a slight shrug of her shoulders "he didn't seem very into his speech"

Ruby could do nothing except nod in agreement as she still sagged from the encounter with Weiss. Why was she so mean, it had all been an accident, if ruby had done it on purpose she would have understood but ruby would never do something like that.

She simply couldn't get over that, could she? She just had to keep on being mean to her for one mistake. Well okay, she had blown her up but that was Weiss's fault for shaking the dust in her face.

She didn't notice that yang had been talking until she snapped her fingers in front of her face while repeating her name.

"What." Asked ruby. Still a little bit upset.

"Cmon. We have to get Changed and get ready to sleep

"Where?" Asked ruby as yang dragged her by her arm. miss Glynda hadn't said anything about assigning bedrooms.

"In the library"

"By ourselves?" How big was beacon if two huntsmen could sleep in the library? That or how small was the library?

Yang rolled her eyes "No, with all the other huntsmen. You may be special but you're not That special"

"Ewww" commented ruby at the thought of sleeping in the same room with a bunch of strangers and yang poked her in the ribs

"Oh come on. Stop being so shy."

"Not wanting to have to sleep in the same room as a bunch of other people doesn't equal shy yang. It equals common sense"

"Well then too bad for common sense because we're doing this." And ruby could only groan in response.

Yang could be such a pain.

...

Ruby let out a heavy sigh as she laid on her sleeping bag.

"What's the problem is? Someone keeping you up?" Asked yang teasingly. Earning her a pillow to the face.

"No. I'm just surprised at how much can go wrong on the first day at a new school."

"Still thinking about that girl? I could get the wrong idea."

"It's not like that yang." The very thought caused ruby to shudder. "You met her. You saw how she talked."

Yang nodded in agreement "I guess your right but. Not everyone is like her. There are good people."

"I know. But still. She makes up for several nice people."

"Well then let's find someone who makes up for several bad people like... her!" Said yang. Suddenly standing up and grabbing ruby by the sleeve of her pajamas as she started towards someone ruby couldn't see.

"Who?" asked ruby as she scrambled to stand up against yangs iron grip. Before looking to see who yang was talking about, and as soon as she saw who it was she grinned with anticipation. Perfect (or should I say purrfect hehe... I hate myself.)

"Hello," said yang. Waving at Blake. Who had her face glued to a book that ruby guessed was the one she had told her about earlier that day. The weird one ruby had no choice but to learn about as Blake went on a short description of it.

She was equally embarrassed and relieved when Blake had noticed her lack of interest and changed topics.

At seeing yang March up to her she tensed. Not really interested in engaging in conversation with her. Until she saw ruby being dragged behind her, still struggling to avoid stumbling and falling. and she calmed down slightly. Even setting down her book, To look at them

"Hello" repeated yang. Stopping ten feet in front of Blake and finally letting go of ruby. Not that she would have run. For once she was eager to talk with someone. Blake was one of the two people here she didn't mind speaking to. "I'm y-"

"Yang I assume" interrupted Blake before giving a slight nod to ruby "hello again"

"Hi, Blake" replied ruby. Grinning as she saw yang look at the two of them with confusion and surprise "is that the book you were talking about earlier?"

Blake nodded "it is. I could lend you it once I finish, I'm almost done. with it"

Ruby made a face at the idea. No matter how much she wanted to avoid insulting her she was not going to torture herself with one of those books. "No thanks. I don't like those kinds of books." Blake nodded in understanding

"You two know each Other?" Asked yang with the most confusion ruby had heard from her in a while. breaking her silence.

"Yes. We met earlier today" explained Blake and yang spluttered before turning on ruby accusingly "you didn't tell me about this!"

Ruby did her best to do a dismissive shrug but the grin stuck on her face didn't help her at all.

"I don't go showing off my friends every time I make them"

"That's because you don't have any" hissed yang. "how could you not tell me? I was the one telling you you should make friends"

"You didn't tell me I had to report to you if I did."

"I thought you would figure that part out!"

Ruby was about to shoot back a reply when she heard footsteps from behind her and she turned around.

She wished she had let yang do that part.

"You." Hissed Weiss. In her own pajamas and looking very annoyed. Only more so now that she saw who was causing all the racket, "some of us are trying to sleep!"

"Well look who's here" replied yang. Looking for more annoyed and less hopeful than when she had talked to Weiss before "don't you have a freezer to sleep in"

"Don't be so childish" snapped Weiss "not everyone is a ball of uncontainable energy like you two."

"It's better than being a snowflake who can't accept an honest apology"

"Yang" urged ruby. Tugging on her arm to prevent a fight "she's right. People want to sleep"

Yang looked around and seemed surprised to see so many people stare at them. Some with amusement but most with a tired look of annoyance.

She let out a sigh before glaring back at Weiss "alright you get off the hook this time but you better leave us alone"

Weiss snorted in reply but said nothing and turned away as yang glared after her.

Ruby looked back at Blake who was staring after was as well before looking back at ruby.

"Well uh," Said ruby. Unsure what to say after that mess "it was nice talking to you again"

Blake nodded. Sensing the end of the conversation "it was nice seeing you as well. And meeting your sister."

Ruby nodded then waved goodbye before dragging a still angry yang after her

What a weird first day

Blake and Ruby's relationship continues. Yang finds out her sister can talk to people. And they clash with Weiss once again, what will happen on the second day of beacon. How will initiation go?

I hope this chapter was good. If you were wondering (I hope you were or else I failed my objective) I purposefully made Weiss nastier to ruby for future character development. Who knows. Maybe Blake stole some of Weiss's kindness for herself.

No lines for Jaune yet either. Although he is still mentioned by Weiss so he's not gone. I just couldn't find a place to put him in considering that Ruby stayed with Blake instead of laying on the stone path. But rest assured he will appear next chapter.

Hope this chapter made your day a little better. And even if not. I hope you still have an epic day.

Also apparently Gambol shroud, Blake's weapon. Is a three in one. It's a cleaver, a katana, and a handgun apparently. Weird I know.
