Edit: i somehow got team STRQ as SPQR (the roman thing) this is the second time ive done something like that. i think im just going to look up names from now on so people arent confused and i dont look like a idiot.

You know. I expected that next to the USA the most amount of people would come from Canada or the UK. Not Russia. Either a lot of you are using a VPN or Russian people have a weird interest in my writing. And it's not just Russia it's also Ukraine and Kazakhstan... is this just a hang-out spot for former members of the Soviet Union? Well uh, in that case, "I serve the Soviet Union." (It's a joke. Don't take that seriously)

"Jaune Arc, Cardin Winchester, Russel (nobody cares), Yang Xiao-long" the four students stood in front of Ozpin as he called on them. And from where he was it was impossible to miss the tension between them.

Mr. Arc was doing his best to look proud with his chest puffed out but the quick glances at Cardin and the bead of sweat that was slowly making its way down from behind his ear told Ozpin that there was more to the team dynamic than the usual.

But then again, Glynda had had to break up a fight between Yang and Cardin. Who currently had a malicious grin spread across his face. A little bit of a sociopath? Perhaps. But he had seen what being a huntsman could do to change people, for better or for worse. He wouldn't judge him just yet.

"You all collected the bronze rook piece. From now on you will be forming team Jackrabbit" the massive screen above them showed the Acronym for their name made up of the first letter of each of their names. paired up with their portraits. Team JCRY "With Jaune Arc as team leader."

The team's emotions shifted at the last part, A nervous smile, a malicious grin that had only grown larger, a look of confusion, and the last surprise and then acceptance.

Ozpin didn't give them a second glance as he returned his eyes to his paper, he had seen far stranger teams than this one and they earned no special place in his mind.

"Weiss Schnee, Isaak Utgard, Nora Valkyrie, Lie Ren."

The four stepped forward as the newly formed JCRY passed. Not a word was shared between them.

"You found the white king. From now on you will be the members of team Winter." As always the screen showed the First letter of each of their names along with their faces in order of team letters. WINR, the Schnee seemed pleased by the name for reasons Ozpin could guess.

"Weiss Schnee will be your team leader."

Again different reactions. A nod of understanding accompanied by a smile that showed the Schnee had fully expected that result. Amused anticipation, blind happiness, and stoic understanding. This team seemed far more functional than the most recent one*. Good. A group of children with semblances as dangerous as the Schnee and miss Valkyrie could cause more damage than most other students, which would give Glynda a headache

And now for the last and most recent one.

"Ruby Rose, Velvet Scarlatina, Blake Belladonna, Pyrrha Nikos."

The four stepped forward as called as team WINR passed. And this time Ozpin noted the hostile glance the Schnee threw at miss Rose, Probably due to the incident he had heard of yesterday. But miss Rose seemed too wrapped up in her own thoughts to notice.

"Together you collected the White queen, from now on you will be a member of team Raven" the screen did its normal routine. Although this time the first letter in Miss Nikos's last name was used. Unusual but far from rare.

Ozpin paused as he considered the last words of his announcement, the name of the team already pointed to who would be team leader, but as headmaster of beacon, he could easily just change his mind.

Before him were four capable huntsmen. One who had already completed first-year training but was being held back, a former terrorist who was now possibly among his best students, the champion of Mistral, and a silver Eyed girl who had simply appeared in a dust shop and had almost captured Roman Torchwick.

Three of them had been possible team leaders, he didn't entertain the idea of making miss Belladonna a team leader, but the others.

There was Velvet. She might not have graduated but was still more experienced than most of the class, she had been his third pick for team leader. Initially, he would have put her at second but after being held back she had changed. Drastically. From her cheery if a little shy personality, to being completely anti-social around anyone who hadn't been in last year's class. Not what he would pick for team leader if he could help it.

Next had been miss Nikos, the champion from Mistral, kind, intelligent, and more than capable in a fight. He almost picked her.

But then had come Miss Rose.

The daughter of Summer and Taiyang, two of his old students. And another holder of the silver eyes.

She had appeared in vale one day, prevented a robbery, and almost caught its number one criminal. And had shown great interest in becoming a huntsman.

She was more qualified than Velvet, certainly more qualified than miss Belladona, more qualified than miss Nikos?

She had potential but miss Nikos's record spoke for itself. And unlike the Schnee, she was known for being kindhearted and cooperative.

In all honesty, if he didn't have an ulterior motive he would have chosen miss Nikos.

But there was a more secretive benefit.

With miss Rose as team leader, he would have a distraction for Salem to chase while he trained Pyrrha.

"Your team leader will be Ruby Rose."

Shock, Disinterest., surprise and then curiosity, and complete acceptance.

As the team accepted the applause from the audience and then walked back to the other students ozpin stared after him with a complicated question on his mind.

Had he made the correct choice?

...

"We need to talk"

Ozpin raised an eyebrow as he set down his mug of coffee. Brand new. The time between when he ordered his coffee and when he made it back to his office was just long enough to where he could drink without fear of scalding his tongue.

"About?" Asked Ozpin, hoping that Glynda would wait for him to enjoy his cup of coffee.

She didn't, she never did.

"About our new students and the fact that they've already started fighting"

Ozpin let out a sigh and looked longingly into his coffee, a talk with Glynda varied in length but they always ended with him drinking a cup of cold coffee.

"I'm listening?" Asked Ozpin begrudgingly, pushing away his mug to show Glynda she had his attention. She might not show it but she appreciated it. And it was never a bad idea to please Glynda, if she had been younger he would have chosen her to be a maiden in a heartbeat but the laws of the world were against him it appeared.

"Already there's been an incident between miss Rose and Weiss Schnee. I'm told that during an argument the former almost ended up killing both of them when she used dust.

"I highly doubt that's the whole story."

"Perhaps. But it appears that it wasn't just a one-time incident, Miss Schnee has already argued with miss Rose two more times since then."

"What about?"

"The second time was a continuation of the original argument. That time miss Xiao-long was involved, and the third time Ruby Rose, Blake Belladonna, And Yang Xiao-long were involved when miss Schnee confronted them about being loud last night."

"How is our resident terrorist doing?" Asked Ozpin And Glynda grimaced as she looked at the paper. She had been opposed to the idea of letting her in but Ozpin was the one who made that decision and in the end, he had decided to let her join beacon.

"Better than expected, it appears she has made a friend in miss Rose. And she wasn't particularly rude to miss Nikos either."

"Good, and the next problem." Ozpin threw a very quick glance at his coffee before returning his gaze to Glynda in hoping that she hadn't noticed. A hope that was dashed when she sighed and flipped to the next page.

"Again Weiss Schnee is involved. This time it's between her and Mr. Utgard."

"She's already made an enemy out of two different people on her first day?" Asked Ozpin and Glynda nodded.

"She has, it's probably a family trait. And putting her and Isaak on the same team while debatable by itself is just begging for a disaster when there's another group of people she can let her frustrations out on. Mr. Utgard seems to take pleasure in annoying people and he's taken a particular interest in upsetting miss Schnee."

"So there's two of them then? Perhaps they'll simply come to an agreement and realize that that antagonizing others won't help anyone" Suggested Ozpin, hoping that that would be an end to this part of the conversation and that he could get to his coffee but Glynda shook her head.

"They're far from the same, while miss Schnee takes no special enjoyment in angering others and just wants to get vengeance for perceived slights. Mr. Utgard enjoys antagonizing those around him and does it to people at random."

"And you think this is a problem because?"

"If Isaak continues to antagonize miss Schnee she could always unleash those frustrations on miss Rose who she already has a grudge against." Explained Glynda and Ozpin paused in thought looking for an answer that wouldn't send her into an even longer argument.

"I can't exactly punish a student simply for annoying another, or for being angry at another one. So at the moment, there's not much I can do about that."

"You could have kept them out of each other's way. Move one of the two onto a different team and prevent any future problems between them."

"If I separated students just because I didn't think they would get along several of our best teams would never have existed."

"And What If you missed out on several far better teams because you let them be plagued by dysfunction."

Ozpin shrugged "then I missed out, but there huntsmen Glynda. There being trained to fight creatures of the darkness I'm sure that given enough time they can at the very least get along to keep people safe. Next problem?"

Glynda didn't miss a beat as she flipped to the final piece of paper in her hand.

"The final problem is on Jackrabbit. I don't know why you allowed them To be on the same team, it's obvious Mr. Winchester has already set his sights on harassing Mr. Arc and Miss Xiao-long isn't helping by starting fights."

"They have been trained to solve problems with their fist" noted Ozpin and Glynda shot him a glare.

"Yes. But with miss Xiao-longs temper, Mr. Arcs' inability to defend himself, and Cardin's bullying I highly doubt that there won't be a serious clash between the three at some point.

"So you're saying that I should have separated then?"

"Yes. Ozpin" Glynda sighed but her resolve was beginning to wear thin. Ozpin could usually outlast her in these arguments and he took great pride in that. Even if it did mean that his coffee went cold. "Miss Xiao-long already planned to be on a different team and Jaune Arc could have been put on team Winter."

"And who would you have me put on team Jackrabbit then?"

"Miss Nikos would be capable of whipping them into shape as team leader, and separating Mr. Utgard from miss Schnee would be beneficial for that team's functionality."

"So in short what your saying is that I picked the wrong teams." Assumed Ozpin and Glynda nodded in confirmation.

Ozpin let out a sigh "Glynda, we have seen dozens of teams form. Some looked like they would be perfect others incapable of doing anything without getting in the other's way. And yet over their time at beacon, we have been proven both right and wrong in our assumptions. Some teams turned out to be among the best when it looked like they would fail. While others broke apart when they seemed perfectly functional."

"After all" continued Ozpin, a slightly amused look on his face "who would have thought that team STQR would be our best team yet."

Glynda grimaced at the name but nodded in agreement "I suppose your right. I can only hope I'll be proven wrong."

"Speaking of being proved wrong" Ozpin drew out a piece of paper and checked off the date before giving it to Glynda, who looking over it and then looking back at him with confusion.

"What is this?"

"It's a record of every time you questioned my judgment" answered Ozpin, giving her a small smile as Glynda looked over it again "Almost every Year you ask me if I made the right decision with certain teams. And almost every year I give the same answer but with enough changes, you don't notice."

Glynda gave him a slightly disturbed look "are you really that petty?"

Ozpin shrugged "you tell me."

Glynda only rolled her eyes in answer before waving her hands at him "you can drink your coffee now Ozpin I think I'm going to keep our students from killing each other."

Ozpin smiled in triumph as he brought his coffee cup to his lips. Before making a face as he tasted it.

Cold.

Glynda always got the last laugh.

So here we are, team Raven, Winter, And Jackrabbit have been formed. Ironically the first two have relatives with that name (well technically Raven and Ruby aren't related but you know what I mean) and their team dynamics are going to be an absolute mess and I'm happy about that because. Since I can't reproduce the eye candy that was Monty Oums fight scenes. I'm completely reliant on character relations and development for the story.

So yeah. In case you haven't noticed Weiss is going to be the main antagonist for this story but there are going to be plenty of side plots beyond just her and Ruby (for example the whole JCRY deal)

And considering that this is a character based story and I do not have the benefits of animation. I'm going to need background characters just to be around and be stuff for the characters to interact with (I only have 16 characters that I can justify using frequently throughout most of the first volume I need background characters) so yeah. I can use Dove and Sky but that means I'll have to add two more people to there team and including a single more original character is not something I really want to do.

Oh well. I'll figure that out later. It's not a problem just yet.

Weiss is a bit more of a jerk in this and Nora's "doesn't shut up unless she wants to" personality isn't something she likes. She likes Ren though but he's not going to like her because Weiss isn't going to like Nora.

Also Isaak exist. His main purpose in this story is to be a lancer/ unwilling partner in crime for Weiss. Although that's not completely it. Still debating just how much attention to give him considering he is a OC.

So yeah. Thanks for reading the this chapter. I consider it significantly better then the last one if shorter then usual. Next chapter will probably be the same but the one after that will be normal length.

Thanks for stopping by. Hope you have an amazing day.

*(spoiler) Ozpin is going to eat those words.
