Adrien was feeling awful, like if he was attacked with a cataclysm (which has already happened). He felt weak, cold, unable to move, scared. Adrien then realized that he was not in his room and that he didn't know what was going on. He saw his dad, asleep in a chair right next to him.
'He looked exhausted' Adrien thought.
Then he noticed that his father's clothes were covered in blood. His white pyjama was completely covered in a red liquid. He tried to move his arms to grab his dad, but a sudden feel of not ending pain hold him back. Adrien realized that his right arm had some kind of syringe inserted in his veins, it was an IV; next to the bed there was a bag full of blood hanging in what looked like a metal rack. His left arm, on the other hand (got it? Please kill me) was covered in bandages and secured with elastics of some kind. He could not speak either, because of the oxygen mask that was covering his face did not allow him to make any noise of any kind with his mouth. He also felt embarrassment due to the fact the he needed to go to the bathroom, but sensed how that necessity simply passed with no more than few seconds.
Gabriel, on the spur of the moment, opened his eyes and gout surprised by the fact that his son was awake. He then started to run his fingers gently in Adrien's hair, making little circles, careful not to hurt him or being too rough. He was as delicate as he could be, like Emilie always was. Gabriel decided to try to console his child, who probably did not understand what was happening.
"Hey son, it's me, your dad" Gabriel said with a calmed, and somehow broken, voice. "Listen, you are fine, the doctors took care of you, your safe" he continued speaking, but with each word that came out of his mouth, he seemed like he was about to break.
Then a nurse and a doctor came into the room to check on Adrien. The doctor was a young woman, probably around her 30's, and the nurse was probably that age as well; they were very nice, but most importantly, made Gabriel feel that his son was in good hands. They started to run some tests.
"Hi honey, my name is Gisselle, we are just going to make sure that you are doing fine, okay?" The doctor said with a very maternal voice. "Blink once if you got it" She added.
Adrien blinked. He was captivated by Giselle's black eyes, they were big and beautiful. Her skin was white, she was short in stature, was not chubby nor thin (like an in between), her hair was black and pinned in a ponytail.
"That is perfect sweetheart" She then took away the oxygen mask. "I now want to breath in and out, do you want to do it with me?"
Adrien just nodded.
"In the count of three: one, two, three" And they started taking little breaths, after a while, she could see that Adrien was in fact fine without the oxygen mask, since he could breathe without any difficulty. "You did great honey; you are very brave".
Adrien gave a little smile. This was actually really weird, he felt awkward, ashamed. His father was simply starting at him, nevertheless, his eyes were not emotionless as they would always be, they felt different, in a way that he could not describe. Truth be told, he was happy to see his father next to him, it gave him comfort, at peace; Adrien felt like he was loved.
"Can you try to speak to me honey? Let's try with a Yes" Giselle said while she was putting the oxygen mask in a table next to the bed.
"Ye… es" Adrien's voice sounded raspy, according to the nurse and doctor, it was normal.
"Now, this is Eloise, she is going to help us to change your IV, it might hurt a little, so it is okay to have your dad next to you" After the doctor stated this, Gabriel quickly went to touch his son's head and gave him little massages.
"On the count of three, I am going to the out the syringe, okay?" Said Eloise, and just as that, she started. "One, two and three". Adrien couldn't help but react to the process, especially since he noticed how she took it out on two. Eloise was tall, with brown skin, she had brown short hair that was covered with a net, and she was really thin. But her eyes were blue, something that, as far as Adrien knew, was not common.
"Amazing, what a good boy" Giselle congratulated Adrien. "Now, as you may feel, you are a little weak, which means you need vitamins".
"Okay" Adrien murmured, he did not like were this was going.
"We are going to change the IV with the blood transfusion to one with vitamins, so taking the syringe in may hurt a little bit more than taking it out" Gisselle was already preparing Adrien mentally. "We are going to make this fun, is it right for you?" She asked with a mischievous face.
"Okay" Adrien whispered looking worried at his dad.
"Hey Adrien, I want you to close your eyes for 5 seconds" Eloise started to tell, by this time, Giselle was preparing everything without Adrien watching it. "Great, now you can open them. Now turn your face to the left and try to copy my gestures".
Adrien simply nodded. He felt how Giselle started touching his right arm.
And Eloise started: surprised face, then relax, then mysterious, and when Adrien felt a painful pressure that made him tear up, Eloise started to make silly faces, which calmed him down a little.
Adrien felt his face covered in tears, but he was not in agony, in fact, he was relieved. But then again, he sensed how his left arm was moved by someone, which caused him pain, just not as bad as before (o so he thought). Adrien watched how Eloise was getting a towel out of a box.
"Okay kiddo, now, you are going to bite this towel as we clean up your arm" Adrien opened his mouth and did as he was told. Eloise removed his bandages and started to apply alcohol and other things that made Adrien agonize for the pain; both Giselle and Gabriel had to hold his upper body and his legs so he would not move a lot. Even with Adrien biting something, his screams could be heard from outside the room, and for Gabriel, this was a complete nightmare, his only child was suffering and there was nothing that he could do.
This lasted for about three minutes. The longest three minutes of Gabriel's life.
When they were done, Adrien started to sob, like if there was no tomorrow. Gabriel, with the help of Giselle and Eloise, held him and put him in his chest, in the exact same position as when they were in the car before they got to the hospital. Adrien was really attached to his dad, and he would not let him go. While Gabriel was consoling his son, the nurse changed his urinary bag as fast as she could, so they would not feel uncomfortable.
After a few minutes, Adrien fell asleep.
"Thank you very much" Gabriel said to Giselle and Eloise.
"It was nothing Mr. Agreste, this is our job" Giselle gently said. "But if I may recommend you, you should go home, take a shower and get some rest, after that, I think it would be smart to have a conversation" she added.
"Can't we have it now?" Gabriel asked, he was getting anxious.
"I highly recommend you to do as I follow because…" And she was cut by a scream.
"We are talking about my son! We can talk now!" Gabriel stated in an angry way.
"Clearly you can't sir, you need to rest, just as your son" Giselle firmly said. "Your son will be fine. If you want the best for your child, you would do as I tell you to".
Nathalie suddenly came into the room. "She is right, Sir. Gorilla can take you home, I will stay here with Adrien".
Hearing Nathalie helped Gabriel to get some sense. He then got out of the room and went with Adrien's bodyguard. When they were in his way to leave the hospital, they both noticed that a bunch of paparazzi were out in the parking lot. Gabriel and Gorilla got out of the hospital as fast as they could, not without hearing some bullshit those stupid people started to say without knowing anything.
When they got inside the car they both knew, this was going to be a long ride to home.
