Chapter 2: Typical Morning
Arriving at school together Carl and Mikey chatted as they entered the school courtyard.
"So, you ready for swimming practice this Friday?" Mikey asked.
Carl nodded. "You bet, our teams doing the best they've ever done this year."
Mikey grinned at that. "So, you're thinking we'll win the inter-school competition?"
"Easily."
Both boys laughed but stopped short as their path was blocked by another boy, mockingly laughing along. Both glared at the sight of him. Said boy was tall with long brown hair and eyes, fair skin and slightly muscular build, a cocky smirk as he observed Carl and Mikey.
"Well, well, what do we have here, the two little swim team heroes, getting all excited." He taunted. "You think you're great just because you can swim a little, honestly-"
Carl glowered darkly. "Nobody asked you, Brandon."
Brandon Rose snarled at Carl's sharp response.
"You watch your tone Grimes." He snapped. "You treat me with respect-!"
"Try earning it."
"You-!" Brandon stepped forwards, his anger mounting.
"Stop acting like a moron, Rose." Mikey spoke up. "You honestly believe we care what you think? We don't, nobody does."
"Try saying that to my friends, Carr." Brandon shot back.
Carl rolled his eyes. "Oh please, you don't have friends. Nobody likes you enough to be your friend and you know it,"
"You will regret that Grimes, I swear it." Brandon growled.
He then stalked away, muttering angrily to himself as Carl shook his head and he and Mikey walked on.
With a sigh Mikey shrugged.
"Typical Brandon Rose, see nothing's changed huh?"
Carl snorted. "Fucking ass-hat, surprised he's even still at this school."
"You know how it is, nearly all the teachers and staff are too scared to do anything about him because of his father." Mikey explained. "You shouldn't lose your temper with him Carl."
"What, just let him walk all over me?" Carl was incredulous.
"No, just don't lose your temper, be indifferent and treat him as if he was something completely boring." Mikey explained. "You know how arrogant he is, that's better revenge than anything else."
Carl laughed at that. "Okay, you got a point there."
Smiling Mikey nodded and led the way as they headed inside the school building and made their way down one of the corridors, they already knew where they were going, as there was still some time before class. So they arrived at the large hall like room that was, for all intents and purposes, the drama classroom. Inside, seated at a large circular table was their close friend, Sophia.
"Hey Sophia." Carl greeted her.
Mikey grinned, adding his own greeting. "Morning."
Sophia looked up and gave her own smile. "Well, morning boys. Before you ask no, this is not something to do with the play, I've already spoke to Ms. Espinosa and gave her the notes needed."
Sitting down at the table Carl nodded.
"So, this is something you're doing on your own time." He noted. "Oh, I see."
He grinned as did Mikey who also noted what Sophia had on the table before her.
There was a collection of meticulously crafted and painted figurines and several sheets of paper, character sheets, as well as few other tools for the game, namely a twenty sided dice.
"So…" Carl said with a smirk. "What devilish schemes is Dungeon Master Sophia cooking up for the poor saps that are gonna try and take on her latest campaign?"
Sophia smartly elbowed him in the ribs with her own smirk. "Oh quiet you. If you must know I'm just doing some final prep work for the campaign, a little bit of a...weekend challenge for the boys. You know you guys are more than welcome to join."
"Afraid we're busy Friday...we know how long these sort of things take too." Mikey explained.
"That's fine, we're starting Saturday anyway." Sophia remarked with a shrug. "So if you boys could tear yourselves away from your feud with Brandon Rose long enough I'd say you could find time."
"You-?" Carl gasped.
"You both had that look on your face, it was obvious you had another run in with him." She explained. "Hmmm, you think I should ask Anna if she wants to join?"
Both Carl and Mikey shrugged, while she was one of their friends, they truthfully had no real idea if Anna would want to join. She was in fact the most recent addition to their little group after all.
Anna was in fact arriving at school at that very moment. To her relief she wasn't late.
'I thought, I thought I was going to…' She fretted but then calmed herself. 'It's alright Anna, you made it on time…'
Swallowing back her nervousness and beginning to make her way into the courtyard she looked around, almost at once turning away from the fountain in the centre where she saw her step-sister Alyssa seated on the edge. She wanted to stay far away from her as possible, even if she had to take a slightly longer route to get to the school building itself. It was almost too late but luckily she managed to dodge at the last second to avoid colliding with someone walking the other way as she turned her full attention to her new path.
"S-Sorry." She stammered.
The girl turned to look at her with wide albeit gentle blue eyes, rather pale skin and long blonde hair, she was slightly taller than average and lanky. She just nodded to Anna before continuing onwards.
Anna bit her lip. 'Lydia Parsons...God, I almost bumped into her...poor girl, as if she'd need that.'
It was well known around the school that Lydia had been abused for a long time by her own mother, something she had only recently been freed from and was therefore still very quiet and still known to flinch even at someone bumping shoulders with her.
Trying to compose herself and focus on simply getting inside the school before her step-sister looked up and spotted her, Anna looked around quickly. She spotted three other people that she recognized and was at least somewhat familiar with, three boys that she knew were part of the school AV club. The first was of medium height with messy blonde hair, brown eyes and fair skin, his name was Rolland Wallace. He was talking to a slightly shorter boy with short neat brown hair, brown eyes behind slightly thick glasses, also fair skinned, Anna recognized him as Brian Matthews. The final boy was Joshua Fairchild, a tall black hair young man with grey eyes and rather pale, he and his father had also been victims of Lydia's mother. To Anna's relief, as she finally processed all her recollections, she was at the front door of the school. Just as she reached for the handle of one of the double doors it suddenly opened.
"Oh?"
Standing there was a tall girl Anna's age, rather athletic with grey eyes and long pale almost white blonde hair, fair toned and a thick Russian accent. She was clad in some sort costume which Anna instantly knew was for the school play.
"T-Tonya?" Anna squeaked in surprise at the sudden arrival of her girlfriend.
Tonya grinned. "Good, you're here."
With that she grabbed Anna's arm and almost pretty much yanked her inside the building.
End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
