Chapter 12: Breaking Point

Anna sighed as she remained lost in thought, heading home.

'I still can't believe all this...how could anyone do that to Carl and Mikey.' She thought to herself. 'This is just so...urgh, at least the ones responsible are gonna pay.'

She knew Carl's dad certainly wouldn't let it lie and all three boys involved were not only suspended until further noticed, pending possible expulsion, but could likely face criminal charges.

But she knew there was one other thing to take note of.

'It's not exactly...necessary, but if what I heard is right, Carl and Mikey are gonna be given an option on Monday when talking to the police again, to see if they want to officially press charges against Brandon and his idiot minions.'

She shook her head, for all her meekness, she always despised such behaviour, especially to the friends she had managed to make, such as Mikey and Carl. But even as she reflected on that, she was caught off guard as she was suddenly grabbed and pulled aside.

"Wha-!?" She gasped.

She grunted as she was shoved up against a nearby tree.

"What the…?"

It was Tonya. "About time, love."

She was glared and Anna grimaced, worried about what was going to be the issue this time.

Tonya looked rather irate and was glowering at Anna as she held her tightly by the arms, pinning her to the tree.

"Where the hell have you been all weekend?" She demanded.

Anna blinked, startled by this. "I've been…"

But before she could explain, something she didn't think was needed as it was supposed to be obvious, Tonya cut her off.

"You've been ghosting me since Friday, you know that's not allowed." She snapped. "How dare you, you should've contacted me right away and come straight to me. That's how this works."

"How can you be so cold, you know what happened." Anna cried. "My friends were cruelly attacked by that monster, Brandon Rose."

Tonya scoffed. "So?"

"So they needed help, I had to make sure they were alright." Anna countered.

Tonya growled. "That's no excuse and you know it. It doesn't take two whole days to do something like that."

"How can you be so cruel, you-" Anna fired back.

"Excuse me, are you actually trying to answer back. Have you forgotten-" Tonya began to try her usual threats.

But Anna had finally had enough. Seeing Tonya in the cold light of what she was really like, seeing her so casually dismiss Carl and Mikey's suffering, it was too much for her.

"You know what, I've had enough of this, screw you." Anna said suddenly. "You're nothing but a bully, all talk."

"You, you...what?" Tonya spluttered, eyes wide, not expecting this.

Anna scowled. "You heard me, I've had enough of you doing this to me, you can't keep pushing me around it's not right and it's not how a relationship is supposed to go."

Tonya glared. "You idiotic little-"

"I said enough, I've had it. I'm done with you, we're done." Anna told her firmly.

With that she turned and stalked away, leaving a furious Tonya behind.

Still fuming to herself, Anna reached her home, entered and almost at once heard the thunderous shout of her 'father'.

"Girl, get in here now!"

Anna grimaced and made her way through to the living room where she found him, as well as her 'mother' and a rather smug looking Alyssa.

"What's this we've been hearing about you...messing around with a girl." He snapped. "It's bad enough you take up space and eat our food, now you're trying to disgrace us?"
Anna flinched, startled. Then she realized exactly why Alyssa was so smug. She'd somehow found out about her and Tonya and had no doubt told them.

"I-" She began, trying to explain herself.

But then her 'mother' cut her off. "We did not adopt a filthy degenerate, how dare you do this to us!"

It was then Anna knew all was lost, no matter what she said or tried it would be no good. They were not going to let this slide; she had escaped Tonya, only to run into a worse problem at home.

Meanwhile, in the Peletier household, Sophia sighed as she sat at the kitchen table, she ran her hands through her hair, looking down at the table surface, not really seeing it. She therefore nearly jumped from her seat when the plate was set in front of her.

"Sorry honey, but you should really eat something." Carol said softly to her daughter. "You're doing so much these days, don't you think you're...trying to hard."

Sophia shook her head. "It's not that, mom, I just-"

"Sophia, honey, you're going to burn yourself out." Carol told her.

Sophia bit her lip, pondering as she picked up her knife and fork. Before even taking her first bite, she sighed.

"I'm just worried mom, about Anna...I...I think." She tried to explain but shook her head. "No, I'm in love with her and, I can't help but worry, about what she's going through, her situation...everything."

Sitting down, a rather concerned looked on her face, Carol raised an eyebrow at that.

"Everything?" Sophia nodded and Carol sighed. "Tell me."

So Sophia prepared to share her troubles with her mother, hoping that finally, she'd find some form of closure.
