Chapter 6

Jackson lied down on the floor of Buck's apartment in a sleeping bag while Angie lied down on the couch. Both could not sleep due to the combined noises of Vince snoring in another sleeping bag and the echo of Buck's snoring coming from upstairs.

"This is ridiculous," Angie said.

"I know," Jackson agreed.

"I'm staying in a hotel," Angie said getting up.

"Me too," Jackson said also getting up.

An hour later, Angie and Jackson entered a hotel room. Jackson hung up the 'Do Not Disturb' sign and shut the door. They both embraced and began kissing each other.

"You and Angie had sex!" Vince cheered the next morning at a café.

"Why don't you say that louder?" Jackson asked sarcastically. "I don't think all of LA heard you."

"Was it your first time with her?" Vince asked.

"Yes," Jackson replied.

"How was it on a scale from 1 to Wowza!?" Vince asked.

"Shut up," Jackson said. "But Wowza!"

"I'm so happy for you," Vince said. "But also, I'm so disappointed. You had sex and I still haven't hooked up with a hot beach guy yet."

"Dude," Jackson said. "Do you really think meaningless sex is going to make you feel better?"

"This isn't about Will," Vince said.

"You haven't even visited the Jones Fire Station since Will died," Jackson said. "I know it's hard, but you need to do it. They have a memorial for him."

"Jackson," Vince said. "I don't want to talk about Will."

Vince looked at his phone.

"I have to get to the 118," Vince said.

Vince got up and left. Jackson started to get up when Christopher came over to him and hugged him.

"Jackson!" Christopher cheered.

"Hey, Christopher," Jackson said.

Eddie walked over to them.

"Christopher," Eddie said. "Don't run off like that."

"You must be Christopher's dad," Jackson said.

"Yeah," Eddie said. "Eddie Diaz. How do you know my son?"

"I met him last night," Jackson said. "I'm Jackson, Vince's cousin."

"Nice to meet you, Jackson," Eddie said. "You're cousin is um…"

"Annoying, straight-forward, did I mention annoying?" Jackson asked. "He sure is."

"Yeah," Eddie laughed. "But anyway, thank you for helping Christopher build a sandcastle last night. He would not stop talking about it."

"Oh, you're welcome," Jackson said.

"It was nice meeting you, Jackson," Eddie said. "But I've got to get Christopher to the sitter and get to work."

"I've got to get to work too," Jackson said.

"Oh yeah," Eddie said. "How's working at the 9-1-1 call center going?"

"Never a dull moment," Jackson replied.
