Chapter 18: Shifting Times
Sophia bit her lip as she checked herself in the bathroom mirror, she wasn't the kind to really care much about her appearance, she didn't spend hours before the mirror trying to make herself look better than she was. That wasn't to say she didn't make some concessions, such as right now as she had finished taking the simple and quick route and trimmed off the ends of her hair, trimming away the blue dyed parts. She had simply felt like a change and, having made it easier for herself she had already worked on it and finally left the bathroom. It was Monday again, Sophia's suspension was finally over and she would be heading back to school, enough time for her to decide she wanted to make this change and prepare for it. Now ready she entered the kitchen and sat at the table.
"Morning mom." She greeted Carol with a smile.
Carol turned. "Morning sweetie, I-oh…?"
Carol's eyes widened as she saw the change her daughter had made to her hair, namely the electric blue dyed tips were gone to be replaced with a full length purple streak framing the right side of her face.
"Yeah I just…" Sophia shrugged. "Just felt like a change."
Carol smiled. "Well, it looks good on you. Here, breakfast."
Sophia just smiled, just glad for things to be going back to normal. She'd be at school soon and knew that tomorrow Anna was due to return, she would also be moving in with them at that time too.
So later on, Sophia entered school, already the centre of stares and whispers. A number of them fearful, no doubt recalling what she had done to Tonya. The ones not fearful were taking not of the dyed streak or clearly had the opposite reaction to those who were fearful.
She sighed. 'Honestly, this isn't what I wanted to happen, I just...reacted, Tonya deserved it. But still, it isn't something to admire me for. As for those people scared, maybe it'll keep them from giving Anna any trouble when she comes back, I'll accept being viewed that way if it does that.'
Of course it was like the universe was trying to test her, for at that moment, the last person she wanted to see turned up.
"You've got some nerve daring to even come back, bitch." Tonya snarled as she blocked Sophia's path.
Sophia's voice was ice cold as she replied. "It's none of your business, murderer."
Tonya froze at that, eyes widening in horror. "What, what did you call me!?"
"You heard. It's your fault Anna tried to kill herself, the way you treated her." Sophia responded. "I know full well by the way that Alyssa whined to you about Anna being saved from her and her family, or did she tell it the as being robbed of her sister."
"I-I don't, This isn't-" Tonya stammered. "You can't blame me for that stupid pathetic slut trying to kill herself, she didn't-"
"Don't you fucking dare." Sophia growled. "You say one more word about Anna and I'll see that you pay for it."
Tonya snarled, clearly not liking that she was losing control of things. But what she didn't know but Sophia did was that things were about to get worse for her.
At that moment another voice cut into the conversation.
"Ah Sophia, I'm so glad to see you back."
Both Sophia and Tonya turned to see a tall slender Hispanic woman in her thirties with long black hair and black eyes approaching.
"Ms. Espinosa?" Tonya wondered, confused at why the drama teacher was pleased to see 'that troublemaker' Sophia and not her.
Rosita Espinosa stopped in front of her much valued stage manager, finally returned to school.
"Yes, I'm sorry to dump this on you when you just got back, but we need to talk about the play, we'll need to do some cast changes." Rosita explained.
Sophia just smiled. "Gladly Ms. Espinosa, let's go to your classroom and discuss it."
"Yes, we're going to need Mikey to step up as Prospero, Ben's tried his hardest, but just can't do it." Rosita revealed, before casting a pointed look at Tonya. "We'll also need a new Ariel too."
Tonya started at that. "What, I'm Ariel, you-"
"Not anymore." Rosita remarked coldly.
At that exact moment the PA announced.
"Tatyana Volkova, to the Principal's office please."
Tonya's eyes widened in fear as she realized suddenly what was about to happen. Sophia just smiled and followed Ms. Espinosa to the drama class. As she walked she noticed Carl and Mikey and nodded to them, she could tell from their expressions something was troubling them and she hoped to help them out as soon as she was done. She knew what was troubling them and knew she'd have to offer as much help as possible. They were scared but ready, it was time for them to come out to their families.
End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
