Chapter 22: First Date
Sophia smiled lightly as she finished brushing her hair, she checked her purple streak and then smoothed down her dress.
'This is it, can't wait.' She thought happily.
She wasn't one for make-up or jewellery or such but she decided to make an effort and as such she made a concession and wore a rather nice gold chain necklace that her mother had let her borrow.
"You look wonderful, sweetheart." Carol said as she stood in the doorway, smiling.
Sophia turned to her mother and smiled back. "Thanks Mom. I…I want this to go well for Anna."
"Don't forget yourself." Carol told her softly.
Sophia nodded and they exited the room, just as Anna emerged from her room, clad in her own dress, her hair reaching down past her shoulders in waves.
"Wow, Anna, you look amazing." Sophia gasped.
Anna smiled softly at that, blushing. "I...thank you, you look so amazing too, Sophia."
Smiling Sophia walked over and gently linked arms with her girlfriend.
"Well, lets get going, our date isn't going to take place itself." She joked.
Anna laughed. "Yeah."
Together they made their way out, saying their farewells to Carol who smiled softly at this and once they had left she gave a soft happy sigh, overjoyed that her daughter was growing up so much and now so happy.
Now it was just the two of them, Anna couldn't help but smile. Once again that feeling of contentment, which she now always felt around Sophia, came over her. It was like she had been missing a part of herself; and now she had found it again. She felt complete, happy. She could see Sophia's smile as they walked and noted she seemed perfectly happy too.
"I do hope you'll enjoy this Anna." She said finally; sounding a little awkward. "I'm not really used to…dating and things like that. I mean-"
Anna smiled widely and nodded. "Relax, I'm sure it will be fine. In truth, neither am I. Tonya wasn't really one for dates after all."
Sophia bit her lip at that, but seeing Anna's relaxed expression she smiled again, looking calmer herself. They finally arrived at their destination. Looking up the restaurant Anna couldn't help but grin.
"Wow, Sophia, are you sure this is...I mean-?"
Sophia nodded. "It's fine, trust me."
She smiled at the reassurance and they linked arms. Sophia grinned and pulled her closer and they began to approach the restaurant.
"I know I already said it, but I didn't do you justice. You look stunning tonight." Sophia said softly.
Anna smiled and leaned in a little closer. "Thank you; you look very stunning too."
Sophia smiled back, thanking her and together they entered the restaurant. Anna was more than a little awed when she noted how beautiful the place was, Sophia was pleased by this reaction and kissed Anna's cheek, she then approached the host and spoke to him briefly. Before Anna knew it she and Sophia were sitting at a table in a private booth, reserved just for them.
She couldn't help but be amazed as she took all this in.
"This is incredible Sophia, how on earth did you manage it?" She gasped.
Sophia allowed herself a moment of pride as she explained. "An old friend of my mom's, Donna, she and her husband Alan run this place. Actually their Ben and his twin brother Billy's parents. Anyway, she made the reservation for us, mom asked her to help out you know."
Anna laughed softly; silently grateful to all those who helped set everything up. The waiter arrived to take their orders; after that they lapsed into companionable silence as they listened to the noises of the restaurant around them. They spoke quietly; once again finding it easy to make simple small talk. They also spoke about themselves, what their hopes and aspirations were. It surprised both of them how easy it was for them to talk to each other. The food came and they ate, enjoying themselves even more. By the time they paid and left the restaurant they were both smiling widely; walking with their arms linked.
'This was amazing; I've never had a better night.' Anna thought to herself happily. 'For someone who isn't really an expert, Sophia set up the perfect date.'
Sophia was also lost in happy thoughts. 'Tonight went perfectly; it was exquisite; Anna looks so radiant too; it's good I was able to make her happy.'
They then left the restaurant and made their way back home. Reaching the Peletier home the happy couple entered and noted Carol was likely in bed, sharing a small smile they kissed again and Anna spoke softly.
"Thanks for this Sophia, I had such a wonderful time." Anna whispered.
Sophia grinned. "I did too Anna and here's to more wonderful nights, right?"
Anna laughed and agreed happily, the two of them happier than they'd ever been.
