He held her hand as the doctor squirted the weird gel on her stomach. He couldn't took his eyes of her uncovered belly. A child. Little human being that was half his and half Sam's! Hopefully a little bit more Sam's.

The whole morning passed by in an atmosphere of nervous anticipation. Both he and Sam were happy, but simultaneously scared to death that they'd find out something was wrong. Sam almost didn't eat anything, which in turn really stressed him, because she should be eating for two. So he didn't eat much either. Then he led her to the car, while she complained how overbearing he was and that she was okay and doesn't need to be treated like a porcelain doll. So their new usual…

"Jack?"

"Yeah?" He saw Sam frowning at him, like she was expecting him to say something. "What?" That was all he was able to say. He didn't hear anything the two women were saying. Sam's stomach was all he could focus on.

"Did you hear the doctor? Everything seems as it should be."

He nodded, but still didn't say anything.

The doctor look at the two parents. "Are you okay, Mr. Carter?"

"O'Neill, we are not…ehm… We can't…" The words were escaping him. "But, yeah." He knew he didn't sound convincing, though he couldn't care about anything else but the enormous weigh that was lifted off his shoulders. Junior is okay.

"Do you want to hear the heartbeat?"

Both Sam and he nodded furiously in response.

"Let's clean you up then, here are some tissues." Sam took some and proceeded to wipe her stomach while Jack just watched. Is this how it'd be? Him feeling useless and inadequate as she'd do all the work. He squished the thought, focusing only on Sam's excitement. She looked so amazing, with spark in her blue eyes and beaming smile on her face. He loved seeing her happy. She deserved to be happy. He swallowed with difficulty.

The doctor then brought a little doohickey and laid one part of it on Sam's stomach. Jack had tunnel vision like never before, all his senses were glued to Sam. The doctor flipped a switch and loud sounds echoed in the room.

"Is that…" Sam whispered with tears in her eyes.

The doctor fixed her glasses and smiled back at Sam. "Yes, mommy. That's the heartbeat of your little one." Then, she stopped for a moment, remembering something. "Oh, would you like to schedule an appointment for amniocentesis? We're quite full, but I think we have a few time slots left."

"No thank you. We needed a confirmation of pregnancy, I have a doctor closer to home."

Sam took a few deep breaths while Jack kept holding her.

"Do you want to go home?" He asked, wanting her to rest. Neither of them slept enough last night, they just couldn't after such news.

"Yes. Thank you, doctor."

But on the way to their car, she clarified that they should go the SGC, so Janet could do another, more thorough examination as well as the amniocentesis.

Again he opened the door for her and helped her into the car, but this time she didn't scolded him for it. He hoped this trend would continue, because he planned to be there for her and helped her in any way he possibly could. He was going to do it right this time.

He didn't move to start the car right away. Turning towards his passenger, he looked right into Sam's eyes and lightly caressed her cheek. She rewarded him with her signature smile, the big one that could lighten up a whole room.

"Want to get something to eat on the way to SGC?" He asked her, still stroking her cheek, unable not to touch her. Too many times he'd seen her hurt and bloodied, so he cherished every opportunity to make sure she was warm, healthy, alive and well.

She didn't respond, just shrugged, which alarmed him. He narrowed his eyes, studying her face. Catching the barely noticeable frown, he leaned even closer to her. He knew her too well to be fooled by her silence and looking away. Something was up.

"Sam, you okay?"

She bit her lower lip and shrugged her shoulders again with really loud sigh. "Everything will change now."

"We'll figure it out." He took her hands into his, gently stroking her soft skin.

"I know, I just…" Her eyes dropped to look at their hands. "I'm not used to not knowing what will happen. And I don't know anything about being pregnant and having a child."

"Sam?" Only then she looked up to meet his warm brown eyes. "You'll be a great mom. In fact you two are my two favorite people in the whole universe! You hear that, Junior?" He leaned forward to say the last part to her stomach. "And you're not in it alone, by the way."

She snaked her hands around his neck and pressed her lips to his.

"Daniel has proven himself to be very useful in this regard and you know how protective Teal'c gets when it comes to kids. And Janet will do everything both possible and impossible to make sure you two are okay…" He continued when their lips separated, big grin on his face.

"Uh-huh." Sam giggled. "Anyone else?" She raised an eyebrow in Teal'c-like fashion.

"I was hoping I'll be there too." His grin widened and he added a wink too.

"Always. I'm never letting you go." She promised.
