hey! hello people! so if you're reading this, thanks! OK that's it lol
I don't own Miraculous btw, I'm just a weird fan of the equally weird love hexagon in it. (my favourite ship is marichat and ladynoir if you want to know, and of course, none of you asked but this is my fanfic, so you'll have to roll with anything I write here including my useless notes!) anyways, before I rumble my way into next year, here's the third chap:
The first few seconds of class began with a somewhat endless chant of Adrien's name as he walked into the classroom with me. I normally wouldn't want any attention as Marinette what so ever, so I quickly slid my way to my usual seat next to Alya in the middle row.
Over the years, we've surprisingly always found a way to keep our sitting positions constant except now Chloe and Sabrina sit way back next to the window where both Alya and I can hear them constantly gawking about how boring class is. Actually, it's more like Chloe's gawking while Sabrina repeats, 'I know right?' after every sentence Chloe says.
I really do feel bad for Brina. She's such a sweet soul who's been manipulated into staying in a toxic relationship for years!
Alya had noticed my silence as I walked into the room with Adrien as well as my inability to no longer just spew nonsense and/or act flustered around Adrien anymore.
"So something happened."
Damn, she's good. Sometimes, she's too good. Like the time she almost figured out I was Ladybug, twice! I'd felt guilty about lying to her so I figured what's the point in hiding it from her. She'd just find out sooner or later.
It's awfully nice that she never ever acted differently after knowing that her best friend had been a secret superhero she'd idolized and made a whole blog about. I thought she'd go ballistic or basically just stop being normal around me but it's as if she'd absolutely forgotten that, indeed, her bestie was a secret superhero she idolized and made a whole blog about! Convenient, isn't it?
I try to stall by shrugging and pretending to stare at Adrien but she caught on and grabbed my shoulders, making me completely immobile.
"Something did happen, huh?"
"Okay fine. I just told him I liked him."
"What?!" She shouts but the class is still wailing and crowding over Adrien to notice.
I don't find it necessary to repeat what I'd just said because 1) I was too embarrassed to actually admit it let alone admit it twice and 2) she had ears, and last time I checked, she wasn't deaf so she obviously heard me the first time.
"I mean, Mari, that's great news!" she hugs me. "What did he say girl?"
I looked to the side and chuckled nervously giving her a sheepish smile. "He thanked me for telling him and was cool with it, but he likes someone else-"
"What?!" She stands up and immediately starts to stride towards him. I grab her quick enough, again, thank you superhero reflexes!
"Calm down! It's completely fine!"
"It's not fine to me. Who is this girl he even 'likes'? You can't tell me all these years he just suddenly has a crush on some mystery girl. I think he's bullshitting you and probably doesn't want to hurt your feelings or something."
I roll my eyes at how ridiculous that sounded. "We've been friends with Adrien Agreste for almost two years, and you're assuming he's suddenly gonna lie about something like that? He hates liars, remember? That's why he never speaks to Lyla these days."
Alya hummed and looked at Adrien. She sighs. "Okay, maybe he's not lying, but then who's this mystery girl then?"
"Definitely not Lyla," I joke. "Oh! What about Kagami?"
"What? No. I heard they dated one time during Summer then broke up because of somethi--wait! Do you think they broke up cause he realized he liked someone else too?!"
I pause to think and find myself looking at Adrien as he cheerfully greets everyone else. Would we really have so much in common in the love department though? I mean, we've both never been involved with other people yet the ones we've tried to be with end up just not being the ones we had in mind. Or, for lack of a better word, end up not being perfect.
Argh! Why do I have to think so much about this? It doesn't involve me. And Adrien would have told us if he really wanted us to know.
Ms Bustier walks into the classroom and everyone immediately settles into their seats.
"Good morning class."
There's a variety of voices both deep and high; soft and loud murmuring back in a complete clash of inaudible noise. "Good morning Ms Bustier!"
She smiles as she proceeds to go on with her normal teacher stuff. You know, teaching us. We're learning English by the way, my least favourite subject and language, since it involves reading unnecessary literature set texts that will not in a million years help me in the future let alone teach me about loans and house mortgages, but I digress.
It's in the middle of class, as Rose is reading a paragraph we're going through, when I hear a huge explosion to my right. I'm sure everyone else heard it when all eyes seem to look in the same general direction that the sound was from.
I feel a small lump tag underneath my shirt, obviously Tikki, confirming that something evil and Hawkmothy is going down in Paris.
I look at Alya and she seems to already have the same idea as me. She nods as if she's read my mind and quickly stands up. "Shouldn't we all head to the fire Assembly point at the school courtyard Ms Bustier? That sounded serious."
"Oh, right Alya. Now everyone, quickly, and in an orderly fashion, head down to the courtyard!"
Everyone is already scrambling for the door before Ms Bustier can finish her sentence and I mouth a 'Thank you' to Alya for creating a comotion large enough to give me a chance to at least wander off without anyone noticing I'm gone.
In no time, I've rushed towards the washrooms and made sure no one is inside before I shout out the miraculous words: "Tikki, spots on!" Tikki swirls into my earrings and suddenly, I'm no longer Marinette but Ladybug, one of Paris's teenage superheroes.
With the added advantage of being incredibly agile and flexible as Ladybug, I squeeze out of one of the washroom windows to the outside just in time to have Chat Noir land right beside me on the school roof.
"Perfect timing My lady."
I attempt a smile. "I was in the middle of a really boring lesson so, I guess it is perfect timing." Sorry Ms Bustier, I find myself automatically apologizing but if I'm not interested, I'm just not.
"So what are we fighting today? Aliens? Robots? An army of white cats?"
I shrug and look around for anything out of the ordinary. There's nothing out of the ordinary except...
"It's really hot out here."
"Are you sure?" Chat says. "I think that's just me."
"Dumb cat." I grin at hearing his dumb joke and suddenly remember my encounter with him last night, as Marinette. "Chat, I'm sorry I didn't get to celebrate our anniversary yesterday. Being a teenage superhero doesn't really give you the advantage over other kids in class when we're all gonna do the same exam and be graded with the same grading system." I shrug again.
"It's fine really," he says nonchalantly. "I get it." And I'm secretly hoping that was a lie cause he seemed really sad yesterday. Maybe Marinette made him actually think it's fine.
We both start catapulting off rooftops to find whatever was causing all the fuss outside. What exactly blew up when we were in class?
The answer comes in form of a fast fireball ricocheting off a building and heading straight for me. I dodge it just in time as Chat heads toward the direction it came from.
I follow him and dodge lots more fireballs until we finally find the culprit of this stupid literal heatwave in the middle of Spring.
"Who's the firebender?" Chat asks, clearly out of breath but still fierce enough to sound obviously pissed about it.
"I am Combustion!" the guy starts off. "I'm here to melt people's frozen hearts!"
"My Lady, I think we have a case of heart break here, or maybe he had a little too much of his beans. I get heart burn too when I eat too much beans--"
"I haven't eaten beans at all you feline fool."
"Okay, someone's gonna be shitting beans for the next week..."
Chat pounces and I take the opportunity to land a kick at this Combustion guy but it's impossible cause he keeps increasing the temperature when we get close to him.
"Chat, close range is a no-no for this dumbo." I look at the black cat as he nods.
"So my cataclysm is practically useless?" he asks as he wipes off some sweat off his forehead with the back of his palm.
"Yeah. But that doesn't mean I can't use my lucky charm."
I stand back and summon a lucky charm but it is apparently not working.
"Ladybug?"
I know exactly what Chat wants to ask but I don't have an answer for it except... "I don't know. Nothing's being charmed up."
"Well shit."
I look around for a while before Combustion decides to start attacking again. "Water! Water beats fire right? So he won't be able to--"
"Ladybug!" Chat screams suddenly and I could've sworn the next two seconds of my life went by as if they never existed.
Combustion was suddenly right behind me grinning as a cool gust of air propelled me far off into a building at least six blocks away.
He can control air and fire, huh?
Though I'm far I can still see the battle between Chat and Combustion then I wonder again why my lucky charm has absolutely ditched me. That's a really dick move, powers, like, absolutely douchey.
I get up quick and try to make my way toward the akuma as quick as I can. Chat has done enough damage on him seeing that the guy isn't bothering with flying anymore. I leave everything to Chat now, letting him take the lead in whatever plan he's concocted in his mind. We're heading to the Pont des Arts bridge. Clever Chat. "I'll let you do the owners My lady. Let's lead him in."
I nod and quickly dive into the water below expecting Chat to dive in right after me but after a few seconds, it's clear something is wrong.
Yeah, why would this Firelord or whatever he is just let us lead him here where there's tonnes of water?
Then it hits me. He's not just controlling fire, he can control air, he somehow blew a chunk up out of the earth which would mean...
I swim up to the surface and the words come as naturally as ever. "Chat Noir, run!"
But it's too late. That Combustion guy has Chat in his heating grasp and the latter can only do so much as struggle to be free.
"You know the jist, bug. Give me the miraculous, and I don't burn his head off."
"Fine!" I blurt out. "Just don't do anything! Don't kill him--"
"And I'm obviously not letting you give up your miraculous My lady!" Chat says and summons his cataclysm immediately afterward. He kicks up off Combustion's grasp and is about to land his death touch on him when a strong tsunami of sorts settles around Chat and freezes, immobilizing him.
"Tsk Tsk Tsk. Poor kitty. I heard cats hate water..." Of course, I rush over as fast as I can, not barely enough though cause it would seem I haven't made it onto the bridge quite yet. "Nah-uh bug. This cat wants to interrupt my warming frozen hearts, it's only fair that I freeze his now." Before I know it, I'm also trapped in a mound of ice, helpless, and am forced to watch as the villain turns a palm full of water into a sharp shard of ice then forces it through Chat's chest. His green eyes close and--
"Marinette! Marinette!" A familiar voice comes, then as fast as I had blinked, the frightened face I'd last seen on Chat turns into Tikki's. I jolt up and look around to find myself in bed still in my pajamas with sweat drenching my bed sheets.
"Your alarm didn't go off so I thought I'd wake you up," Tikki said. "Sorry, did I scare you?"
I looked at her, then at my sweaty palms and pinched myself, smiling in delight when I feel the mild pain of it. "No Tikki. I just had a bad dream. That's all."
