The letter comes from Men's Central Jail. Despite the advice of her mother, Mulan opens it.
It's an apology, of sorts, from Shan Yu. It's full of promises and excuses and crap about how she's "the one".
It's also full of barely disguised threats and half-mad ramblings.
Shan knows about Doctor Shang Li and about how quickly she's moved on. He swears that once he's out, if she gives him another chance, he'll treat her better.
Shan says he knows her, and he knows she wouldn't move on that quickly if it was serious. It took her six years to get nowhere with him.
The Air Force have successfully contested his sentence and he's getting out in two months.
Mulan shows Shang the letter once he's home. He says they need to go to the police.
