Summary: Naruto & Sasuke are in their last year of the volleyball team, they need to make it last as much as they can. Haikyuu AU
His arms were getting sore but it wasn't enough. He needed to keep improving, they barely won the last match and with the next game being tomorrow he had to get in as much practice as he could.
"Again?" Naruto asked, wanting to get his spike just right. Sasuke nodded but before they could make another move the doors swung open.
"Are you two boys still here?" Sakura put her hands on her hips glaring at the two.
"What will the coach think if he sees you two here?" Giving a cheeky grin as she walked up to them.
"Ahaha Sakura-chan you wouldn't… would you?" Naruto asked gulping. If he knew they were up still practising at this time, he wouldn't let them play in the match.
"Try me," she got out the water bottles knowing full well what they were like handing them one each.
"I know you really want to win this game, especially with it being your last chance to play. But you need your rest too." Sasuke sighed, there wouldn't be any point arguing with her. She could be more stubborn than him and she did have an advantage over them.
"Fine," he took the bottle, drinking greedily from it. Naruto thanked her, wiping some of the sweat away.
"The first years seem to be able to hold their own with you two," she took a seat on the floor along with Naruto and Sasuke.
"Yeah, they're really good. Safe to say that we don't have to worry about them when we leave." Naruto nodded, smiling. "Although they can be a bit of a pain sometimes."
He looked around the room, noticing all the balls everywhere.
"I'm just going to clean up a bit, can't have Kakashi finding out about this." The pair nodded and Sakura grabbed a ball to throw and catch against the wall.
"Sorry about your team," Sakura blinked looking up at him and smiled a little sadly. Catching the ball that bounced back without looking.
"Yeah, they felt really gutted. Still, some of them can try again next year."
"But you can't." It was a statement, Sakura looked away. He knew how much she wanted to win, how hard she worked. He even practised with her and she was the best on the team.
"It's fine to be upset, you have a right to be."
"Not in front of them, they feel so guilty about it." Plus she was the only one who couldn't play next year. None of the women in their year had an interest in volleyball. Which is why the school didn't dwell on it. Why does one player matter when they have the rest of the team that can do better next year.
At least her teammates and coach cared enough about her wellbeing.
Sasuke wasn't the best at comforting people, but with Sakura, he would try. He always did.
"You can always count on me and Naruto… if you need to talk."
Sakura smiled. Even if it was bland and awkward, he still tried.
"Thanks, Sasuke-Kun. I appreciate it." He glanced at her, noticing she still felt down. Why did he have to mention the game in the first place? Mentally face-palming himself. Naruto easily knows what to say.
However, an idea went in his head. It probably wasn't the best time but then again he never did have a perfect moment to ask.
"What about a bet?"
"A bet?"
"If we win this game, you go on a date with me." The ball dropped from Sakura's hands as she replayed the words in her head.
A date.
With Sasuke?
"Eh? What? Where did this come from?" A blush adorned her cheeks. Since when did Sasuke have an interest in her like that?
"A while I just… haven't found the right time to ask…" His ears tinted pink and Sakura found it adorable.
"You don't have to agree."
"No, I mean yes I just… didn't expect that." She looked away shyly. Did she have a crush on her friend? Yes. But did she expect to get asked on a date by him like this? Nope.
Although it was very much Sasuke like she couldn't help but giggle. Sasuke suddenly stood then startling her.
"I should get more practice then." Eh?
"Hang on, didn't you listen to what I said earlier?"
"Yes, but I have my own reasons for winning now. Don't I?" Giving her his trademark smirk. Why that sneaky little-
Sakura puffed her cheeks blushing.
"Fine, only for a bit."
"Eh? What's this? Do we get to practice some more?" Naruto asked, eyes sparkling. Sakura laughed. "Yes Naruto, you get to practice. But only for a little while. I still want you both to have enough energy for tomorrow."
"Yippee!" He jumped high quickly asking Sasuke to toss him a ball.
Sasuke looked back, giving her a rare smile.
"We'll win for sure," another blush made its way onto her cheeks and she smiled in return.
"I'm sure you will."
Definitely, Sasuke thought.
Not sure if by crossover they meant as in the characters meet? Or just a crossover where you can have characters A in Characters B world.
I'm slowly catching up now, still 5 days away but we're getting there yaay!
