The roses fall to the floor as Mulan pulls Shang into her arms. Between kisses and tears and a mess of hands trying to remember how faces and lips feel, there's words muttered.

Shang thought she was choosing West River over him.

Mulan thought he was jealous he wasn't promoted to assistant director.

They both thought the other didn't want to start a family.

'But you accepted the promotion,' says Shang.

He's burrowing into her shoulder and trying to smash her into his own body so they can share a soul.

'You kept saying it wasn't the right time,' cries Mulan.
