Inspired by the Tsubasa Chrocniles anime, so slight angst ahead
"Why do you do so much for me?" Sakura couldn't help but blurt out to the raven-haired man, Sasuke. That was his name, wasn't it? At least that's what Naruto said. She felt guilty for constantly forgetting his name, especially as they've been spending so much time together.
He picks her up from work, cooks her meals, listens as she rambles on about her day and takes her out. Kind of like dates, only they've never really put a label on it.
"Because you're my friend," he replied softly and quietly looking away. She bit her lip before asking the next question on her mind.
"Do you love me?" The man froze on the spot and Sakura knew she hit the nail on the head.
"I… overheard. You and Naruto, apparently I had the biggest crush on you and we were… we were going to be in a relationship before…" Before all this, before the incident.
Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke had been put on a mission together. It had gone well until the man had drugged Sakura. At first, it didn't seem like anything had happened, but once she looked at Sasuke her first words were
Who are you?
Apparently, the drug is supposed to make you forget the one you love most. Sakura had no memories of Sasuke or remembering that she loved him. She knew of Naruto, Kakashi, and even everyone else in Konoha.
Tsunade had been trying to find an antidote, along with Sakura but it was much more complicated than that. Worst-case scenario, she'll never be able to recover her past memories of him or them.
However, that didn't mean they couldn't make new ones. Even if it did take a while to remember his name.
"I do… but it's fine that you don't."
"How is that fine? It's not fair on you."
"Because I love you, I can take it. And if you wish to be with someone else I will respect that."
It amazed her how easily he was willing to accept her, to accept this. Surely, he deserved something better, a relationship and someone who did know him.
Sakura wished it didn't have to be like this.
"I just wish things would be different." He didn't say anything but grabbed hold of her hand. His was much bigger than hers and felt so warm.
"I do too."
